commentary on Politics and a little bit of everything else

Is Civil Rights Enforcement back?……..Good, but lets face it…..it's gonna cost him…….

The New York Times reports that the Obama Justice Department, under the Eric Holder is ‘recharging’ the Civil rights division announcement. They are adding $22 million to the group and hiring more staff. While the second half of the piece seeks to water down the basic announcement the fact is clear. With the election of a black (actually mixed) president Civil Rights is back.  Me, I’m glad…….With the Bush administration the Civil Right division was probably last in line, after the dogs…..

Of course, this is a political blog……..so here’s the other shoe……While this will make the Liberal, progressive and minorities happy…….this is gonna cost anguish for the ‘Blue Dogs’……..Listen Obama had decent coattails in his win last November……the Blue Dogs (and Republicans, of course)  are already gonna leave him because of the ‘public option’….now, bringing the Civil Rights issue into the light is going to bring back the old order of things, and cost several new House members their seats…….they will be unable to hold the line against Republicans fighting ‘change’, public financing of healthcare, the economy spending, and lastly, the old boogie man Civil Rights……..

But I give Obama his props for forging on….but, some of the troops are gonna take a hit in 2010……. no doubt………

  1. .With the Bush administration the Civil Right division was probably last in line, after the dogs…
    Try FIRST in line

Bush was a champion of advancing African Americans in power

Condi, Colin Powell, the Secretary of Education, the pastor at JENNA’s wedding, and NEVER really going after Obama during the 2008 presidential campaign.

Not to mention the removal of racial profiling

  2. TPL you are absolutly right in the case of hiring…….the republicans have led the way in putting blacks in senior leadership postions in the governmenet……hands down…funny isn’t it?….the dems make all the noise but don’t seem follow thru…………

  3. You obviously mean Blacks’ Rights, not Civil Rights. Holder is the filth who dismissed the already won case of voter intimidation against some Black Panthers in Philadelphia.

  4. In the linked piece… he takes pains to assert that he IS trying to deal with Civil Rights……not just Black Rights…….Anything else will get him more grief then he’s gonna get from the right……….

  5. Actions speak a lot louder than words and, so far at least, Holder’s actions don’t backup his statement in regards to Civil Rights.

Given his, admittedly short, track record and ACORN’s involvement, his getting involved in: voting rights, housing, employment, bank lending practices and redistricting after the 2010 census has an ominous air to it.

  6. so you think this is just for the political payback that an Obama presidency would elicit?

  7. No, I think that Holder has a racialist agenda and that Obama has few problems with that as long as he can distance himself from any fallout that might ensue from it.

The “payback” mentality is much stronger in the Legislative branch as opposed to the Executive.

  8. well until we see that…I ‘m not with that………a black (mixed actually) president would be expected to flex on civil rights………..and by payback…I mean political movement for minorities …just as the hispanic/latino groups got a change in Homeland changing its policy on raids to factories…….That IS the way politics works……and I really don’t think Holder is a racist per-say……..
