Kids Playing are kids learning……and there is nothing wrong with having fun!

Well, well….I give props to Stuart Brown and his opinion piece in todays New York Times………Titled Let the Children Play (Some More )……. Mr Brown starts the piece by talking about children going back to school and No Child Left behind……But it’s the second part of his piece that interests me……and the plain truth that playing is serious fun and LEARNING…..

While most of the adults I know have forgotten the happy and fun years they spend growing up….We need to stop and take time to watch the children in a park or on the block playing. If you watch closely you’ll remember and notice a whole lot of exciting things happening……..

There is mechanical skills acquired, social skills used, trust , avoidance and just plain fun!……Brown reminds us that a lot of us developed our adult problems because we didn’t get enough, or any play time……some of us had bad play time……

The fall comes, and reminds us of going back to school, but it also reminds us of summers and all the playing we did ……was it a lot of work?……nah, it was fun!

The State Department and Blackwater (Xe)………..

It may come as a shock to people but Blackwater has renamed itself and is still in the employ of the United States State Department.…..The Washington Post has this story about indiscretions by another firm ‘s employee’s that resulted in the State Department having to send its special agents to Kabul to watch over its security contractors……Sound familiar?……Yep ……about a year ago the State Department had to do the same thing in Bagdad………

The fact is…I’m sure the State Departments Diplomatic Security Service probably doesn’t have enough agents to go around. While the Secret Service is a domestic agency and has more man/woman power……the DSS is tasked with providing its service all over the planet (they will have a major presence in NYC and Pittsburgh providing security details for the annual United Nations General Assembly meetings).  Most people don’t know that security services are contracted out in most overseas embassies to the extent that in a lot of places private foreign nationals provide close security for State staff….and that can include security details…..

The number of people working for the ArmorGroup in Aftganistan is close to 450 in country…….and the report on the group points out that a lot of the work is essential but boring and routine…….the State Department does not need special agents for all of it……..But I’m sure they  could save a whole lot of headaches if Obama let Sec. of State Hillary hire  more agents to keep a check on things and let them assume more of the contracted work………..

Update:…….Eight guards have been fired for miscoduct in Kabul by the State Department…….

Troops for Aftganistan and the New York Times……..

Why would the Times even put this piece in the newspaper?………there IS gonna be more troops going there…anyway you move it around…… McChrystal is gonna need, and ask for more troops…….and Obama sure is gonna need Republican help……cause his party has served notice that they are gonna ask a whiole lot of hard questions, and they are NOT inclinded to go along with him willngly…….

Ole' Arlen is still in the lead……….

People who think the senior senator from Pennsylvania is going to get rolled in the upcoming democratic primary, after switching parties, will be in for a surprise………..He currently leads Sestak by 27% points, and in the general election he would beat Toomey by 8% points…….There is a but here…big undecideds right now…….46% in the primary and 25% in the general………..

He’s holding his own right now………stay tuned…….

The White House is courting Sen. Snowe (R-ME)…. as usual ……..

In trying to nail down a deal in on the Healthcare bill the White House has quietly (until now) gone about talking to the senator from Maine, Olympia Snowe.

The moderate Republican seems to always hold a disproportionate influence on legislation because of her unique position in the Republican Party as being reachable by the administration. As I mentioned in a previous post,  Obama IS amendable to getting a bill without the ‘public option’….It seems he always was ……the sweetener will be agreeing to bring the ‘option’ up after the 2010 mid year elections…….

PS……..I believe passing this bill without Republican votes was never a serious option….I don’t believe the talking heads……

Worth repeating from Politicalwire……..

This………….

Quote of the Day

“Everyone deserves a second chance.”

— Ashley Dupre, writing on her blog about her former client, Eliot Spitzer.

Dupre denies being the “woman who brought down the Governor” because “I didn’t call the tabloids, I didn’t blow the whistle and I didn’t save ‘the dress.'”

Jon Gosselin gives his side………..

I guess the guy realizes that Kate, right now, is quietly letting him dig a hole all by himself…….so  he’s gone on ABC’s Good Morning America to tell his side of things………saying that Kate gave him a whole lot of a hard way to go while they were together…….ah….I still think you should cool out Jon………
