commentary on Politics and a little bit of everything else

A frank assesment of Aftghanistan, and its lack of struture, making a win there impossible………..

I like to look at things from different points of view…while I may not agree with one’s argument…It’s healthy to hear the other side……When I dropped in on CQPolitics Spy Talk tonight, I saw something interesting…….a piece about the futility of dealing with Aftghanistan in the way the United States is doing today…..

I have pointed out something quite simple several times in the past…..namely that, that country does not have any infrastructure to talk about…..and that one of the things that seems to feed the terroist movements in the Middle East, is poverty…..both things exist in Aftganistan……

So I came upon Jeff Steins piece and I become interested…..and  I go to Steins linking of a Ken White piece from SMJ (small wars journal)……..

The Ken White thing is bit scary….but essentially correct, in my mind, about the eventual outcome there……White talks about going after the bad guys aggressively (small Hunter/Killer teams, which is a unacceptable political and diplomatic idea and impractical anyway….)…but the part that got me was the basic underpinning of the situation there……

Aftghanistan doesn’t really much have much ‘to fix’ (Iraq does)…..Others have tried and failed….. Right now things don’t look all that good…..we can’t just walk away NOW…cause we have promised not to…..

But…….while we will probably add more forces to the area in the near future, ultimately the troops sent to liberate and hold the country will become looked upon as oppressors……and I certainly wouldn’t want to be in Obama’s shoe’s on this one, which has no easy answers………

President Obama….the 'public option' will not be a deal breaker…………….

I just checked the Sunday front pages and what do I see?…………Several pieces on how the \’public option\’ has been pushed aside for non-profit health insurance co-ops by President Obama along with the House and Senate leadership……..

SURPRISE…..not really!….

I have argued here since the beginning that Obama NEVER really bought  in the ‘public option’ thing…..and he didn’t…..after pointing that fact out in his speech, everyone has finally realized that he was serious about  that…….So, this morning I see the President’s marching orders pasted all over the place……….and they seem to be……

We want a Healthcare bill….Period…..We will make the bill palatable for some republicans to cast their votes for it. This the party line folks…….Either you are with us…or against us…….
