commentary on Politics and a little bit of everything else

President Obama….the 'public option' will not be a deal breaker…………….

I just checked the Sunday front pages and what do I see?…………Several pieces on how the \’public option\’ has been pushed aside for non-profit health insurance co-ops by President Obama along with the House and Senate leadership……..

SURPRISE…..not really!….

I have argued here since the beginning that Obama NEVER really bought  in the ‘public option’ thing…..and he didn’t…..after pointing that fact out in his speech, everyone has finally realized that he was serious about  that…….So, this morning I see the President’s marching orders pasted all over the place……….and they seem to be……

We want a Healthcare bill….Period…..We will make the bill palatable for some republicans to cast their votes for it. This the party line folks…….Either you are with us…or against us…….

  1. This has all the makings of a bad bill. According to Sam Donaldson, the important parts of it do not take effect until after the 2012 election. The Democrats will have to pass this all by themselves.

Obama’s long term objective is single payer health care.

  2. Well Manila…you and I know he’s gonna get a bill…….the thing might need a major ajustment which is why the CONGRESS actually does the bill……and also why I feel that it is important for the republicans to have their say……

Obama has to be smart enoough not to fallow the taking heads and progressives and have a vote just from the dem’s….no cover…they own it….no way!

The devil will be in the detals…for sure…..

  3. But the point will be that as a politician should be….he will seek compromise………..

  4. and you’re right…… most of the thing won’t kick in till 2012……..he’s giving the House people some time…….and himself time to boast about the bill during his re-election campaign……like I’ve said before, they aren’t stupid…….

  5. “and also why I feel that it is important for the republicans to have their say……”

I think they will follow Nancy Reagan’s example and just say no! We could provide health care to all through the very private businesses that provide it now. More than half the workers I had were covered not by me but by their spouses work place.

Most uncompensated care costs are included in everyones insurance policy. I heard from George Will today that is a $1,000.00 on every bill which would make it 15% of my policies cost. Why not have the Government reimburse the employee co pay instead (doing everyone a load of good in our “consumer” economy) with the proviso that the company use it to insure(with a means test) via an outreach program the very people responsible for uncompensated care in the first place?

Does it make too much sense?

As to the nonsense Obama presented on Wednesday, it all reminds me of the shell game one used to play at carnivals. Guess what the shell the little pea is under? Well with these characters (and I include the GOP) you should always pick up the two shells you didn’t pick just to be sure.

  6. I am confident that Obama will get at least 3 GOP votes in the senate and few more in the House……he has to …to cover his rear politically…….

I think you solution might be good…but I think Obama is out to get the government involved so that there is NO chance of the insurance companies setting policies……the basic fact for Obama and his people is that the health insurance companies are the bad guys…….They can’t be trusted by the american people……..

All of Obama’s move go from that….Making your solution moot……..

  7. as for the speech……he grabed the spot light back form the GOP …….and reaserted that the public option is, “one of many choices’,….

He did exactly what he wanted to………

    • James B, can you please post about former Arizona Governor Fife Symington (R) seriously considering seeking reelection to a 3rd non-consecutive term at the governor’s mansion in 2010 ?

  8. James B, I think that Obama got a personal phone call from United States Senator Olympia Snowe (R-Maine), who told him to shove it with the public option, because it’s NOT going anywhere anyway this year.

  9. Okay CD…glad to have you here……On Snowe…I think she’s doing the right thing to cover her rear……she’s gonna go with Obama you and I know it…but here she is towing the GOP line….IN PUBLIC!….cover fire for her…..rememeber Obama can take the ‘option’ or leave it…..

  10. Okay CD….but are you for real?

First of all the present Governor of Arizona is Jan Brewer who got the job after Janet Napolitano went o DHS in the Obama administration……..

Fife Symington III (64) was a republican Governor from March 6, 1991 to September 5, 1997 when he resigned his office after being convicted of bank fraud……

In 1999 his conviction was overturned when the jury had a problem that ended in a juror being dismissed and an appeals court ruling that the dismissal ‘violated Symington right to a fair trial’………

    Wait it gets better!……
    From Wiki……
He was subsequently pardoned by President Clinton near the end of his presidency in January 2001. The pardon terminated the federal government’s seven year battle with the former governor. Coincidentally, Symington once rescued Bill Clinton from a potential drowning. During their college years (Symington at Harvard and Clinton at Georgetown), Clinton got caught in a strong tide and Symington rescued Clinton from a near drowning.

    Even better……..
In 2007, Fife said that he had witnessed one of the “crafts of unknown origin” during the 1997 Phoenix Lights event, but noted that he didn’t go public with the information…..

    CD…are you Okay?
Why in the world would you be interested in THIS GUY?

    • James B, Symington is not the only one who thinking about challening Brewer, AZ State Treasurer Dean Martin (R) is also making it known he plans on seeking the governorship either next year or 2014.
