commentary on Politics and a little bit of everything else

Politics in Queens NY…..after Obama…..

In an NY Times piece, one gets to see in several local races

After the historic election of the countries first black biracial president if things changed in local predominately black political races…….

In Southern Eastern Queens New York…and predominately black area, which voted overwhelmingly for Barack Obama (though their Democratic representative pledged to Hillary Clinton), and whose black population out earns its white population……there has been a political awaking for a group of its residents…….

These campaign works did there thing for Obama a year ago…then rallied for several new candidates in hope of deposing the entrenched (black) incumbents…..They along with their candidates spend long hours knocking on doors, shaking hands…and yes kissing babies…..

……while trying with all their rmight ……their candidates  still lost to the incumbents, in every try (though they didn’t do bad in general, garning good vote totals)……and the newly signed up voters that came to vote for Obama simply stayed home……a sobering  reality….but the campaigners are at it again…try to rally for New York City Controller William Thompson……who is being out spend in his campaign for Mayor of the city of New York by a ratio of 14 to 1…….it unlikely that he will win…….

Even being 0 and 3 should not stop these campaigner’s who have got the bug and will certainly be back to fight again for the men and women of their choice to effect ‘change’……

Iraq slips backwards to right after the American first so called 'win'……

Iraq is right back where it was after Bush\’s so called first \”win\’ there.…In that case remember……the Saddam Hussein people having suffer a loss to America in a straight out military action turned to tried, and true action employed be others (notably in by the Palestain’s in Israel) …of bombings…….

Well in the last week, we\’ve gone back there……the country is busy trying to get ready for election  and the United States wants to make sure everyone knows that they are pulling out ‘combat troops’……

For two reasons Obama is happy to go that way…..Because he’s gonna send more troops next door to Afghanistan…and because he can have a big campaign promise for filled in 2012, when he runs again……but things are never that easy…are they?

We all know that the US is never gonna get rid of all the troops in Iraq…as a matter of fact Nouri al-Maliki, the countries Prime Minister has announced a few weeks ago that the Iraqi’s are not gonna hold the US to it’s withdrawal date of 2011….( Obama still said a few day’s ago we’ll have the combat troops out on time, don’t bet on it)……..

With this campaign, as we see, we are back to the juggling by the different factions in the country for power…. While enjoying the last year as a mostly stable place, Iraq, as other countries in the Middle East, has more of the ‘iron fist’ method of working its politics, than the relative peaceful bickering in the Europe, Asia and the America’s…….

Stay tuned……

The School Nurse…..a pictorial…….and thank goodness……

This is a pictorial of the school nurse’s job in NYC schools……..It is about Nasim Akhtar, an NY City School Nurse, originally from Pakistan…….

This is a piece in the New York Times…which spotlights the dedicated professionals  (more than 52,000 nationwide ) that keep an eye on, and treat our children every day they go to school……they are real people who care…..and have to be able to deal with children brought to New York (or wherever ) from all over the world, that can speak different languages, as they learn english, and have the same everyday childhood medical issues……..

For $40,000 to $65,000 the nations school nurses have to deal with parents, children, teachers, paperwork and of course medical issues………..and in spite of all that…they come back everyday and take good care of our children…

…And I say thank you, keep up the good work…….

New survey predicts a rise in hiring……

The latest survey from the National Association for Business Economics, a quarterly report, that will come today indicates that hiring by employers is beginning to increase. If this is true , this would another sure sign that country’s economy is slowly coming back……..With unemployment rats at a high of 9.8 percent and rising…This report is good news……. The strongest growth in the services area, with finance,  insurance, and can you believe it?,  real estate following………

The survey companies report doubling their hiring from an all time low six months ago…the survey does take into account lags in the numbers and fully expects that the 9.8% unemployment number will rise above 10%, before falling back……..
