commentary on Politics and a little bit of everything else

The war in Afghanistan is the third longest war the US has fought since 1775……

Here’s a good chart of the length of the time the Unitede States has been involved in war campaigns…….

  1. Except that we have not fought this war for eight years. We fought it for a year, and then sort of went into suspended animation for six years. And then those who did that left the rapidly deteriorating mess for the next crew to deal with.

  2. ….that is not entirely true…the United States has been in and out of that country for more than a decade…first in supplying the Taliban in their fight against the Russians…then returned right after the Russians left to sereptiouslypredator keep an eye on things and set up bases there…the US has had predator bases there for quit some time…….The US has had troops all over the planet and that doesn’t excluded the AFPAK region….

  3. I do agree with you. I’m just saying, the war was not prosecuted with vigor for long stretches of that time. I would say, for example, there was more actual “fighting” done in a month of WWII than in multiple years of Afghanistan.

  4. Ok…I’ll go with that…Our definition of war has changed…hasn’t it?

no fact to face encounters…bombings…..against troops and civilians…no fronts… no rears……moving the chess pieces…taking ground giving ground……

and of course…with the advent of remote camera up loads the personalization of war….each causality on camera is multiplied by its vision at home……

We now have enemies who fight us by using our civilian ‘s feelings…..
As in Viet Nam the war is fought in country and on your TV and computer at home…..

    And never ends……
