commentary on Politics and a little bit of everything else

President Obama will give his answers on the Afghan troop moves by the end of next week….

According to the Cable /Foreign-Policy site notifications are being made to the other foreign stakholderrs in the action, and NATO…in addition, National Security Advisor Jim Jones, and Defense Secretary Robert Gates have begun to advise their people of how things will go…..There is no mention of the State Department in the piece…but I’m sure that Secretary of State Clinton is doing her bit in the process….

It appears that all the players will be in Washington by the end of the week if  President Obama (the nation’s Commander-in Chief ) wants to do the rollout then……

Note:…..I’m waiting for the leaks…….

Update:…..I’m off by a week…the president, it is now reported, will atend a service at Fort Hood on Wednesday, then fly to Toyko for a week long Asian trip…..The target date for the annoucemenet is around, Monday November 16th, when he returns to DC…..stay tuned……

U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice Skipped Key Vote to Appear with Jon Stewart
    Tuesday, November 10, 2009
Susan Rice on The Daily Show
When the United Nations’ General Assembly voted last Friday on an important war crimes report, the absence of U.S. Ambassador Susan Rice was noticeable. Diplomats and UN observers speculated why Rice was missing from a decision on the Goldstone Report, which discussed alleged atrocities committed by Israel and Hamas. The Obama administration supported the Israeli position and voted against endorsing the report. Yet Obama has also emphasized the need to engage the Arab world, so some observers wondered if he was trying to make a statement by keeping Rice away from the vote.

So where was Susan Rice when the U.N. was debating and voting on the Goldstone Report? Phyllis Bennis of the Institute for Policy Studies has pointed out that Rice was taping an interview with Jon Stewart for The Daily Show. During her dull chat with Stewart, the American ambassador discussed how the Obama administration is establishing a new “era of engagement” with the world to demonstrate the president’s commitment to making international diplomacy more of a priority than his predecessor.
