The Office of Personnel Management…the little agency that may be handed the job of negotiating insurance plans for the public option replacement plan….

The agency, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM)  is responsible for overseeing the federal governments personnel matters…from hiring employee’s, handling their salary info and benefits and taking care of retired ex-employees benefits…….

The agency has been around since 1978, and has a $200 million budget…..But has had its problem’s in the past……including not being able to wrestle enough money to upgrade its system to handle federal employee’s retire benefits…..

The agency, which is tiny, in relation to other federal agencies would be assigned the task of negotiating and overseeing that non-profit companies that will handle healthcare for members of the public that cannot afford or obtain regular healthcare insurance….and that will be a lot of people and a lot of fairly large companies……

There is growing concern that the OPM may not be up to the task and will need help from the much bigger Health and Human Services Department……

We’ll see how this plays out…….
