Rahm Emanuel still draws fire…….from the left…..

[rahm0125]

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worst for President Obama…there is this……

President Barack Obama’s liberal backers have a long list of grievances. The Guantanamo Bay prison is still open. Health care hasn’t been transformed. And Wall Street banks are still paying huge bonuses.

But they are directing their anger less at Mr. Obama than at the man who works down the hall from him. Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, they say, is the prime obstacle to the changes they thought Mr. Obama’s election would bring.

The friction was laid bare in August when Mr. Emanuel showed up at a weekly strategy session featuring liberal groups and White House aides. Some attendees said they were planning to air ads attacking conservative Democrats who were balking at Mr. Obama’s health-care overhaul.

“F—ing retarded,” Mr. Emanuel scolded the group, according to several participants. He warned them not to alienate lawmakers whose votes would be needed on health care and other top legislative items.

The antipathy reflects deep dissatisfaction on the Democratic left with Mr. Obama’s first year in office, and represents a fracturing of the relationship between the president and the political base that mobilized to elect him. A little more than one year ago, Mr. Obama’s victory led some to predict an era of Democratic dominance.

The anger on the left shows that Mr. Obama is caught in an internal battle over both the course of his administration and the Democratic Party.

Many in the party, particularly in the wake of the loss last week of a Massachusetts Senate seat, contend that the White House should chart a centrist approach focusing on the economy. They point to polls showing Mr. Obama’s approval rating among independent voters has dropped by nearly 20 percentage points since early last year.

This anger by the left wing of the Democratic party could kill any chance of the democrats surviving the midterm elections….

If the left was to stay home during these elections and the Indie’s defect due to the Jobs and the Healthcare Bill problems, the Democrats could suffer horrible loses……

As it is, the left has gotten screwed on most of the Obama campaign pledges he made to them……There is an increased military presence in SAftgahanistan…..The administratu=ion still as detainees in Gitmo…..Any and all Gay issues have been buried…deep…..Healthcare is being cut down everyday……and Obama isn’t fighting for anything or anyone…..

And of the guys getting the heat from the left, the President’s Chief of Staff…is the only insider…who really isn’t one…..Emanuel isn’t one of the original wise men, who started with Obama from the jump….

His goal, of getting things done at all costs is a good strategy on paper…but it hurts the base…..and Emnauel is logical target….

Rep. Anthony Weiner, a New York Democrat and one of the House’s more liberal members, recalls telling Mr. Emanuel the White House needed to apply more pressure to secure passage of the public option. Mr. Emanuel’s response, Mr. Weiner says, was always the same: He was open to any idea that could gain a majority vote.

Which puts him in their crosshairs…….

Cause when your up…everything is beautiful…when you’re down…everything and everyone gets blamed…..

President Obama will propose a Budget Freeze…..

President Barack Obama intends to propose a three-year freeze in spending that accounts for one-sixth of the federal budget—a move meant to quell rising concern over the deficit but whose practical impact will be muted.

To attack the $1.4 trillion deficit, the White House will propose limits on discretionary spending unrelated to the military, veterans, homeland security and international affairs, according to senior administration officials. Also untouched are big entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare.

The freeze would affect $447 billion in spending, or 17% of the total federal budget, and would likely be overtaken by growth in the untouched areas of discretionary spending. It’s designed to save $250 billion over the coming decade, compared with what would have been spent had this area been allowed to rise along with inflation.

The administration officials said the cap won’t be imposed across the board. Some areas would see cuts while others, including education and investments related to job creation, would realize increases.

Among the areas that may be potentially subject to cuts: the departments of Housing and Urban Development, Justice, Energy, Transportation, Agriculture, and Health and Human Services.

This appears to be a wholly political move signaling to the Dog that Obama and the White house is scared ….plain and simple….

This from MyDD.Com….…….

Please tell me our president is smarter than this:

President Obama will propose freezing non-security discretionary government spending for the next three years, a sweeping plan to attempt deficit reduction that will save taxpayers $250 billion over 10 years. When the administration releases its budget next week, the discretionary spending for government agencies from Health and Human Services to the Department of Treasury will be frozen at its 2010 level in fiscal years 2011, 2012 and 2013. […]

Exempted from the freeze would be Pentagon funding, and the budgets for Veterans Affairs and Homeland Security.

Instead of delivering his State of the Union address this week, Barack Obama may as well hold up a big sign that says, “I want Democrats to lose Congress.” Over at Daily Kos, eugene explains why:

That will be the equivalent of FDR’s boneheaded move in 1937 to pull back on government spending. The result was a major recession that caused conservatives to win a lot of seats in the 1938 election and brought the New Deal to an end.Yet FDR had already won his second term. Obama, on the other hand, is embracing a policy that has been proven to fail even before the midterm elections.

If he thinks this is even a realistic or economically feasible policy, he is out of his mind. If he thinks this will save his and Democrats’ political bacon, he is very badly mistaken. Only greater government spending – MUCH greater spending – will pull us out of recession, create jobs, and produce lasting recovery.

Without greater spending, Obama is implying he is willing to live with high unemployment for the remainder of his first term. If one wanted to deal with the deficit, he could follow Bill Clinton’s model of producing economic growth that would close the deficit in future years.

Economically, this course would be a disaster, but politically it’s even a worse move. During the presidential campaign, Obama promised hundreds of times that we would be able to spend more on various domestic priorities because we wouldn’t be spending $200 billion a year in Iraq. With the escalation in Afghanistan, the combined cost of our commitments there and in Iraq will now exceed Bush administration levels, and Obama isn’t cutting fat from other areas in the Pentagon budget to make up for it.

It’s as if he wants Democrats to stay home this November.

Obama told Diane Sawyer today, “I’d rather be a really good one-term president than a mediocre two-term president.” If he follows through on a spending freeze he’ll be neither.

He gets handed a garbage economy going sideways…….Then the Healthcare Bill……Now he wants to pull the rung from under the Governments assistance to the Housing market……..now this…….

I’m not getting a good feeling about this……not at all…….

I hope I’m wrong……

Quick Thought…This is beginning to feel like the end of Jimmy Carter's four years….

The Dog remembers a bad economy getting people pissed…..and Carter  getting blamed for it…..

The perception beginning to creep in is that the Economy aided by the Heaalthcare Bill is creating a wave against incumbents…..

And this President has better do something soon least the wave catch him also……

Note:…..There is plenty of time to rescue the incumbant swimmers…just get the darn Healthcare Bill pasted and get moving…..

The media has caught this and going to ride it to make money on the fear……

The Republicans will gladly help things along……

Merlin on Nevada and Senate Majority Leader Reid's future……

Hi Dog!

So what is Majority Leader Harry Reid going to do about his Political Future. He as well as Arkansas Senator Blanche Lincoln are the most vulnerable Incumbents right now. If Reid choses to retire Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman could hold the Senate Seat in Democratic Hands a new Poll suggests.

Some Thoughts:

Now with Plouffe back in the Political Operation he will at some Post over the next few weeks come to the conclusion that Reid is unelectable. The Senator is also 72 years old. Why would he want to have a tough Campaign which he very likely could lose and then only have 55 Senators in his Caucus as Majority Leader. It doesn’t make sense to me. Health Care won’t safe him only Jobs, Jobs, Jobs.. For the Democrats to have favorable Environment where they could pare their losses the Unemployment Rate needs at least to be below 9,5 %. I don’t see that happening.

I’m pretty much sure that a Krolicki Entry into this Race would nail the coffin for Reid to retire. Oscar Goodman is a decent Candidate. It would be a tough Race also for him but he could win.

Dog, mark my words: Harry Reid will retire, and if he doesn’t ……he’ll get slaughtered in November – Period.

Merlin

Well Merlin the Dog would like to fight that call…but the fact is Reid IS in a tough spot…..so I’ll just say….. wait for the Healthcare Bill….which is what I’m saying a lot these days……

Merlin on Indiana's Senate Race…Evan Bayh…and some Job approval numbers….

Hello Dog!

Bad News are continuing to come for Senate Democrats. Should Republican House Policy Chair Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN 6) announce for Senate he would start the Race in a statistical tie with Incumbent Senator Evan Bayh (D-IN) a new Poll shows.

Rasmussen Survey

Indiana Senate 2010

Rep. Mike Pence (R)  47 %
Incumbent Senator Evan Bayh (D)  44 %
Others  3 %
Undecided  7 %

Incumbent Senator Evan Bayh (D)  44 %
Former Rep. John Hostettler (R)  41 %
Others  3 %
Undecided  12 %

Incumbent Senator Evan Bayh (D)  45 %
State Senator Marlin Stutzman (R)  33 %
Others  5 %
Undecided  16 %

Job Approvals

President Obama

Approve  43 %
Disapprove  56 %

Governor Mitch Daniels (R)

Approve  70 %
Disapprove  29 %

Merlin’s Take:

Man, this is really striking. How worse have things gotten for Senator Evan Bayh.  He can’t even break 45 % against lesser known Opponents like Stutzman and Hostettler. That shows you in how bad shape he is. Unfortunately Rasmussen doesn’t give us Job Approvals for Bayh but my guess is that his Numbers are in the low 50’s and maybe even below that.

As someone who supports Republican Candidates I’d say “Run Mike Run”

Merlin

Ok…the Dog is a little confused with Merlin working at warp speed and all today…..somewhere today the Dog made the comment that this race with Bayh is connected to the Healthcare Bill and that when the Bill is passed, and the issue dies down Bayh will be in better shape…..
