RNC Down to Three Finalists for 2012 Convention City……

From CQPolitcs…….

Republican candidates, activists and political reporters could be in for a sticky August 2012.

The Republican National Committee announced on Friday its three finalist cities to host the party’s 2012 presidential nominating convention. Two of the possibilities — Phoenix and Tampa — have a propensity to get hot and steamy in the summertime. The third option is Salt Lake City, which would be practically a hometown venue for 2012 aspirant Mitt Romney given the former Massachusetts governor’s Utah roots.

Average temperatures in Phoenix in August are above 100 degrees, while temperatures in Tampa are regularly in the 90s and rainy. Salt Lake City’s August weather is more tolerable, averaging in the 80s (not that we at CQ-Roll Call have a rooting interest, or anything).

The 12 members of the RNC’s site selection committee will visit the three locales in late March and early April, according to a news release from the RNC. The site committee will take a final vote at the RNC’s annual summer meeting in July, with the winner recommended to the party leaders.

  1. Ugh

It looks like I have LOST my influence in the GOP

I suggested Minnesota for 2008 and Sarah Palin as VP and …viola

Anyways … 2012 the GOP NEEDS to be in A big MEDIA MARKET and they need to be in the North

which leaves Boston ( tea party origins), Philadelphia ( the site of IMPORTANT writings), New York City ( Freedom Center and the biggest media market, and Chicago( the crossroads and an IMPORTANT audience Obama’s turf)

  2. As to Salt Lake, Boston did John Kerry a world of good!

Maybe they should wait until there is another terrorist attack on a major city like traditionally Republican New York and rename it Convention Town 2012!

Of course maybe the next attack will be on the GOP convention itself…. which would be the best of both worlds!

    • Wouldnt be all that surprising for a left wing group like the Neo-Nazis to cause a ruckus outside a GOP convention

      I never want terrorist attacks

SADLY they happen almost ever hour either inside the womb of someone in the USA, through DRIVE BY shootings, or intentional industrial chemical dumping in our nation’s lake, streams, and rivers

    • Obama will be VICTORIOUS in 2012

The three convention choices Phoenix,Tampa, and Salt Lake City shows the GOP continues to be CONTROLLED by TEAM OBAMA

Just as TEAM OBAMA was able to have Mccain ( a grumpier version of Bob Dole) win the nomination GUARANTEEING a win

the city choices SIGNALS the GOP are not serious about winning

Phoenix SIGNALS (defense) Salt Lake City ( no attempt at outreach) Tampa ( weak.. sure the GOP needs FL in national, but as anyone KNOWS the KEY to success is PICKING up NEW STATES not REGAINING states)

      Bush 2000 ( New Hampshire

      Bush 2004( New Mexico)

      Obama 2008 ( North Carolina & Virginia)

The GOP needed to OUTREACH throughout the Northeast to be successful in 2012

it looks they have decided to be LOSERS

      2012 election is DONE

      • Charlotte would be a great convention city for the Dems in 2012. I haven’t heard yet which cities they are considering.

I am INDEPENDENT so here are the TOP CHOICES for the Democrats

        1) New York City — it is number 1 choice for both parties always.
it is the MEDIA CENTER of the USA

        2) Los Angeles– it is the second biggest MEDIA MARKET

        3) Austin, Dallas, Houston, or San Antonio Texas–

It signals the Democrats are ready to take Texas in 2012

  5. My money is for the Democratic National Convention to be held in NORTH CAROLINA and the GOP holding court in Phoenix.

Arizona is on the verge of going Democratic in 2012, even though Obama lost the Grand Canyon state by 8 points I think.

    • Why would the Dem’s go to any southern state except Florida….
