Daniel…..New Mexico Governor: Lieutenant Governor Diane Denish (D-NM) controls Governor Race….

Hello Dog and good morning!

It appears Democrats right now have little to worry about to hold the New Mexico Governor Mansion to replace Term-Limited Governor Bill Richardson (D-NM). Lieutenant Governor Diane Denish (D-NM) leads all 5 Republican Opponents by double digits with Former Republican State Party Chairman Allen Weh (R-NM) & Public Relations Firm Owner Doug Turner (D-NM) running closest.

– Democrats seem to have little trouble here. A PPP Poll in February showed Domenici only 5 Points behind Denish. Interesting: The two Republicans with the lowest Name ID running best in Head-to-Heads. Usually the Climate in the Rocky Mountain West is pretty toxic for Democrats. That doesn’t seem the case whatsoever for New Mexico.

President Obama is GAME ON!…….He is in Afghanistan visiting Karzai and the Troops….

Continuing a remarkable week……

The President of the United States of America further displays his bona fides but traveling to Afghanistan instead of being at Camp David…to visit the troops and to talk to the President of that country Hamid Karzai……

The trip a la’ George Bush feint…The Commander in Chief left for a 13 hour flight that has him in there at night….

He will be leaning on Karzai to pitch in and help get things rolling within his own country by providing support for military gains his troops along the Americans and NATO have made……

Those military gains will not hold unless the population feels safe and the country provides basic services  to its population…..

Air Force One landed at nighttime at Bagram Air Base after a 13-hour nonstop flight for a visit shrouded in secrecy for security reasons; Mr. Obama quickly boarded a helicopter for the trip to Kabul, landing at the presidential palace for talks with President Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan.

Mr. Obama’s trip caps a high-profile week for the president in which he coupled a singular domestic policy victory — the signing of a health reform bill — with the foreign policy achievement: reaching an arms control agreement with Russia in which the two agreed to slash their nuclear arsenals to the lowest levels in half a century.

Coming on top of that, the Palm Sunday visit to American combat troops by their commander in chief could project the image of a president keeping on top of a number of issues at once.

General James L. Jones, the National Security adviser, told reporters aboard the flight to Bagram that Mr. Obama would try to make Mr. Karzai “understand that in his second term, there are certain things that have not been paid attention to, almost since day one.” Gen. Jones said those things included “a merit-based system for appointment of key government officials, battling corruption, taking the fight to the narco-traffickers,” which, “provides a lot of the economic engine for the insurgents.”

The Double Standards Series: The Standard of Error…from Up 4 Discussion…..

From JSin @ Up 4 Discussion…..

Disclaimer: The following discussion is REAL TALK.  It may be too real and too in your face for some.  This discussion holds no punches and makes no apologies.

There should be no surprise that a double standard exists when it comes to men, women and sex.  This is a double standard that has been present for decades, possibly even centuries.  That being the case, this topic has been discussed on multiple occasions.  There have even been debates that have taken place.  The focus of this discussion isn’t to argue one way or another.  Nor is this discussion going to explain what the sexual double standard between men and women is.  At this point, it should be clear that a double standard exists and it pretty much represents the fact that men can be sexually promiscuous and gain praise for it while women who may be sexually promiscuous are slandered and chastised.

This discussion instead is going to take an in-depth look at the roles of men and women and how they perpetrate the sexual double standard that exists.  To begin, I would like to introduce the personas that I believe most men or women personify, either throughout their entire lives or during periods of their lives.  The personas include:

  • The Playa
  • The Ho
  • The Male Ho
  • The Queen
  • The Gentleman
  • The Good Girl

From Talkandpolitics……Adams on the American Revolution ……

From Talkandpolitics……

Just done with the HBO John Adams series from 2008 – excellent show. The last episode depicts an aging and somewhat bitter John Adams, who proclaims that nothing is as false as the modern european history, “..except for modern American History.” “The real and true story of the American Revolution is lost….   ….forever……”

This scene never happened.. it’s a shameful fiction for posterity.

New Yorkers love the sweet smell of vanilla, hate the odor of stinky socks, five-year study finds……

Stinky socks are New Yorkers least favorite smell, while the scent of vanilla came out as most favorite, a new five-year study finds.

This from the New York Daily News…….

The city’s millions of diverse noses, assailed daily by odors both understated and overpowering, are united in their love of the flavoring’s enticing aroma, a five-year study found.

“We are just one community, one world, in that we love vanilla,” said researcher Leslie Vosshall of Rockefeller University.

It’s an odd consensus for such a multicultural place, but Vosshall insisted her study showed the vanilla worship crossed all gender, race and age lines.

What do New Yorkers turn their noses up at? Isovaleric acid – the stench most commonly associated with ripe socks.

Vosshall said Friday that odor was – no surprise – the least popular of 66 smells ranked by 400 volunteers in the largest-ever study of its kind.

“Maybe that can be helpful in future city planning,” suggested Vosshall.

The study did discover some difference between races in their olfactory preferences. Whites in the study liked the smell of nutmeg, while blacks enjoyed the scent of sandalwood.

New Yorkers, the researcher said, “are aware of smells, they’re interested in smells. New York is a great place to study smells.”

Romney and Obama…..already?

This from Jerome Armstrong over @ MyDD.Com

The CNN poll shows Romney as being the slight frontrunner among the GOP 2012:

Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney 22%
Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin 18%
Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee 17%
Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich 8%
Texas Congressman Ron Paul 8%
Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty 5%
Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum 5%
Indiana Congressman Mike Pence 4%
Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour 1%

This morning at the AAPC pollies conference, I listed to Stan Greenberg describe the recently passed HCR as a bill based on Republican ideas (individual mandate, market-driven), and a number of writers have pointed this out lately.

Downtown Los Angles has an Immigration Demo…..

Supporters of immigrant rights rallied for reform in Los Angeles on Saturday in a march that was scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. at Broadway and Olympic Boulevard, wind its way north to Temple Street and end back at the Olympic and Broadway intersection.

The event is part of an orchestrated effort across the country to pressure lawmakers to move ahead with immigration legislation this year. Last Sunday, tens of thousands of immigrant rights proponentsrallied on the National Mall in Washington.

Sens. Charles E. Schumer  (D-N.Y.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) outlined a framework for the legislation in mid-March that would provide a path to citizenship for some of the 11 million illegal immigrants in the U.S., enhance border enforcement efforts and create a program that admits temporary workers.

The McCain pick….. Sarah Palin is now the star…….

John McCain and Sarah Palin

Funny how things turn out….isn’t it?

She quits her job and rises to the top……

The Dog alway thought that people in general vastly underestimate her brains and ability to steal the spotlight……

They may not be confortable with a presidental run for her..burt she sure can stir up the base…or the ‘Tea Party’, huh?

Their national campaign together ended badly for both, topped by a flurry of leaks dumping on the former Alaska governor and, since then, nasty accusations between the senator’s camp and hers over the conduct of it. Whatever happens now, the reappearance of McCain and Palin on the same stage illustrates how much things have changed since 2008.

For starters, the understudy is now the star. A majority of Americans may think Palin is not qualified to be president, but the GOP faithful love her, as does cable television.
