Daniel…….South Dakota Senate: Filling closed yesterday in South Dakota and Senator John Thune (R-SD) is running UNOPPOSED…..is he going for the WH in 2012?

Hello Dog!
The Filling Deadline closed yesterday in the State of South Dakota. Democrats WERE UNABLE to field a Candidate which means Incumbent Senator John Thune (R-SD) will UNOPPOSED this Fall.

Chris Cilizza of the “The Fix” examined and accessed Thune’s Chances for a Potential Presidential Bid against President Barack Obama (D) yesterday evening.

Check out “The Fix” @ The Washington Post………

Today’s candidate filing deadline in South Dakota marks the start of serious talk about Sen. John Thune‘s potential presidential campaign in 2012.

The Thune forces have been loathe to discuss his potential 2012 candidacy while there was still a possibility — albeit it a VERY slim one — that he could draw a serious Democratic challenge for his re-election race this fall.

But, privately, those close to Thune acknowledge that he has been receiving considerable encouragement to run and is likely to take a hard look at a national bid. Those same sources caution, however, that he remains entirely undecided and his decision will be heavily shaped by what he hears and sees in the coming months. (They also note that Thune will keep an eye closely on South Dakota to ensure he doesn’t repeat the mistakes of then Sen. George Allen in 2006.)

Thune will likely focus on building out an issue portfolio via his chairmanship of the Republican Policy Committee — the  committee released a report on Iran this morning — with a specific focus on spending and debt issues. (Thune has been an outspoken opponent of the Troubled Asset Relief Program almost since its inception — although he did vote for the bill.)

He will also likely begin to do more for candidates running for office in 2010 via his Heartland Values PAC — a process that will allow him to visit key early primary and caucus states to gauge support.

Russia is struck by two female bombers again…….

[ Moscow’s subway commuters on edge following two deadly attacks. ]

Putin may be the almighty Prime Minister…..and Medelev the boss in title only…..these bombing are going to shake the foundation of a country that is emerging from decades of repression and wants……

The Russian people are enjoying themselves…and this is going to make them want this problem to go away….exactly what the people who have sent this women out…… want……

Double suicide bombings struck the strife-ridden Russian republic of Dagestan on Wednesday morning, killing 12 people and injuring dozens.

The attacks came as violent punctuation to this week’s bombings aboard Moscow’s subway, which killed 39 and stirred fresh fears that volatility in Russia’s mostly Muslim Caucasus region is seeping deep into the rest of the country.

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir V. Putin again lashed out at militants, saying this week’s bombings could be linked and calling for reinforcement of police ranks in the north Caucasus.

“I don’t rule out that the same terrorists were involved,” Putin told a government presidium in Moscow. “It does not matter for us in what part of the country these crimes have been committed, or who — people of what ethnicity or religion — have fallen victims to these crimes. “We see this as a crime against Russia.”

Wednesday morning’s first bombing struck on Lenin Road in Kizlyar, the capital of Dagestan. The driver of a Russian-made off-road vehicle ignored the commands of a police patrol to pull over, the interior minister said. As the police veered closer to the car, the suicide bomber blew up the vehicle.

Analysis:

This is indeed quite surprising. Just last week Public Policy Polling (PPP) had both Republicans ahead in the Governor & Senate Races. We need to be VERY CAREFUL which State we’re looking in. Health Care doesn’t seem to have nearly the sane impact as in Missouri which is also a “Swing State”

Daniel G.

Daniel …I did mention that this is another state that tends to be democratic?…and while Obama has never been that popular here…..like Michigan, Illinois and Pennslylavania…I expect these state’s voters to come home to democrats in the fall elections….

Republicans will try to pick off Tea Partyer's by bringing them into the fold…..

Realizing that the budding movement is primarily drawing its members from within the conservative wing of the GOP……the Republicans are trying to get those same Tea Partyer’s back into the Republican camp by doing voter outreach banks and having GOP candidates show up and work Tea Party events……

In Nevada, the Clark County Republican Party is opening a phone bank in Las Vegas later this week specifically for Tea Party members to conduct voter outreach, party officials said.

And from Tennessee to Arizona, Republican candidates are turning up at Tea Party-sponsored events to rail against government spending.

The debate over healthcare and the stimulus program galvanized conservative activists to become politically active much earlier this cycle.

“I think the RNC should be talking about those issues and making sure that the Tea Party folks know they have a home at the Republican Party,” said Chip Saltsman, a Republican consultant who ran for the RNC chairmanship last year.

Observers note that the lack of a robust party infrastructure to capture the Tea Party’s energy could hamper the GOP’s chances in November. Democrats don’t have fond memories of the 2004 cycle, when groups such as America Coming Together (ACT) and MoveOn.org drained money and volunteers away from Democratic campaigns. The liberal groups worked to defeat President George W. Bush and other Republican candidates, but they frequently duplicated the party efforts and were ultimately unsuccessful.

Obama will allow offshore drilling on the East Coast…….

Further proving that this president is indeed no liberal……President Obama has just announced that he will not stand in the way of oil companies drilling in several area ‘s off bounds for the last few decades……

His decision , he says to help the country be less dependent of foreign oil…is a turnabout from his campaign rhetoric and is sure to anger several states and conservationist’s ……

The Obama administration is proposing to open vast expanses of water along the Atlantic coastline, the eastern Gulf of Mexico and the north coast of Alaska to oil and natural gas drilling, much of it for the first time, officials said Tuesday.

The proposal — a compromise that will please oil companies and domestic drilling advocates but anger some residents of affected states and many environmental organizations — would end a longstanding moratorium on oil exploration along the East Coast from the northern tip of Delaware to the central coast of Florida, covering 167 million acres of ocean.

Under the plan, the coastline from New Jersey northward would remain closed to all oil and gas activity. So would the Pacific Coast, from Mexico to the Canadian border.

The environmentally sensitive Bristol Bay in southwestern Alaska would be protected and no drilling would be allowed under the plan, officials said. But large tracts in the Chukchi Sea and Beaufort Sea in the Arctic Ocean north of Alaska — nearly 130 million acres — would be eligible for exploration and drilling after extensive studies.

Daniel…..Texas Senate; BREAKING NEWS: Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) to serve out Senate Term….

Hello Political Dog and good morning!
I just received BREAKING NEWS out of the Lone Star State: Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) will announce this morning in San Antonio at 9am CT / 10am ET that she’ll NOT RESIGN and will serve out the remainder of her Term which ends in 2012 according to Hotline On Call.

Hutchison will be joined by her fellow Texan Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY)

Update….
From POLITICO

STICKING AROUND: Texas Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison announced Wednesday that she will serve out her current term that ends in 2012, reversing a previous pledge to resign after her state’s gubernatorial primary.

“I think everyone has known that I have intended to leave the Senate. … I also will say something has happened in our country that no one could have anticipated,” she said at a press event in San Antonio.

Hutchison cited the Obama administration’s agenda and the increasing national debt, explaining: “It has caused me to look at my resignation differently.”

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Texas Republican Sen. John Cornyn joined Hutchison for the announcement, which McConnell said prompted a “sigh of relief.” — Manu Raju

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0310/35237.html

I will say this: I don’t expect Hutchison however to run for Re-Election in 2012 after 29 years in Office.
