We Can Just be Friends…….From Up 4 Discussion……

From JSin…..

Five words.  That’s all it takes to change the nature of a relationship.  Five words; and a person can find themselves in the friend zone.  Many of you may be aware of what the friend zone is, but for those of you who are not, the friend zone is where individuals find themselves when they are unable to establish a romantic or intimate relationship with another person.  Instead they are only able or allowed to share a platonic friendship with the person.

I’m sure that a lot of people may believe that only men can be placed in the friend zone.  Yet, that isn’t true.  Like many things in life the friend zone is a two way street.  Therefore, both men and women can find themselves in the friend zone.  The majority of the time women are the initiators of the friend zone, but there are also times when men will initiate a friend zone as well.  If individuals are initiating or being placed in the friend zone there has to be a reason.  As you may have guessed there are many reasons and they differ for both men and women.

Possibly one of the most common reasons why women will place men in the friend zone is because they couldn’t possibly see themselves being anything more than friends.  Some women may choose the friend zone route because they are not attracted to the man, but he is a good friend.  Other women may have tried to be in a relationship with a man but things didn’t work out and instead they became better friends in the process.  The reasons are endless and differ from one woman to the next.

For the rest……..Here….

The House is open to an 'look at' an Immigration Bill….. if the Senate goes first?……..

On this Friday House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.)  threw Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid a life line…….

He invited Reid to see if he could put together some sort frame work for an Immigration Bill thus giving Reid a green light to be seen acting on the issue that will effect more than 105 of the voters in home state of Nevada…..

Reid is stuck at about 105 points behind the GOP field running for his job as US Senator back home…..

Furthermore after Latino’s and Hispanics noise for the past week…..

The White House could use some movement on the issue also……

Knowing an immigration debate could deeply damage their ability to hold on to their majority ahead of the mid-term election, House leaders reached an agreement with their members, the White House and the Senate ensuring that the Senate would have to pass immigration legislation before the House would follow suit.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has indicated a willingness to put a bipartisan, comprehensive immigration reform bill on the Senate calendar as early as this summer — a move that’s designed, in part, to strengthen his own reelection chances.

Hispanic Democrats, primarily in the House, have become increasingly frustrated with what they believe are a string of false promises from their leaders — including President Barack Obama — to work to pass an immigration bill this year.

Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) and, more recently, Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-Calif.), a member of the House leadership, have publicly aired that frustration, and with increasing frequency.  The perception that their own leaders in the House are now backtracking on an arrangement made months ago in the face of Reid’s seemingly very real desire to move an immigration bill could only inflame those frustrations.

Although House leadership aides recently acknowledged that Democrats are prepared to take on a much lighter and less contentious workload following their passage of healthcare reform, Hoyer said that the House would still have the energy to address immigration before November……

Note…..Before an election THIS November….. this issue is sure to be toxic…while good for Reid…it would upset a lot of Democrats in trouble already in majority GOP House districts……

I see this as dance that doesn’t get finished till After this coming November ..but before November 2012…..

On Leadership Series @ The Washington Post……A Maternity Clothing line success story….

It’s always good to see a story on the success of women who dare to get into their  business…..

It even better when they do something that makes things easier for their fellow women when they are  ‘with child’…..

Here’s a little bit about Liz Lange…..and how she developed a multi million dollar company that made maternity clothes…sold that business and they came back and did it again to develop a cheaper…more accssible ‘brand’………

A career in fashion wasn’t something Liz Lange ever envisioned for herself until in 1994, she launched her own maternity clothing line –a business she eventually sold for an estimated $50 to $60 million.

She’d charted a career path in the field of writing and landed a position at Vogue magazine as an editorial assistant. Then Liz met a young, struggling fashion designer, Steven DiGeronimo, visited his small studio, and just felt this connection. “I just had to be a part of this,” Liz explains and plunged headfirst into the fashion industry as an unpaid apprentice. She learned every aspect of it.

Friends visited Liz at work to buy at a wholesale price. “I’d say, ‘What are you doing here? You’re pregnant. They’d always have the same answer: ‘You don’t understand. There’s nothing out there.'” Those friends managed to wiggle their way into the new dresses made with stretch fabrics. “I noticed that they looked so much thinner and cuter and better.” At the time, stretch fabrics were new to the fashion industry. These garments provided a fitted, chic look, and that meant her pregnant friends felt more attractive and self-assured.

That’s when Liz got a big idea: launch a maternity line using stretch fabrics. Fashion-conscious, expectant mothers could trade in the circus-tent look for haute couture. She presented her idea to DiGeronimo–and he promptly nixed it. Merchandise buyers at high-end department stores pooh-poohed the idea saying there was no money in retailing maternity clothes. ‘Women don’t care what they look like when they’re pregnant,'” Liz remembers. “Everyone gave me reasons why it was a bad idea. But I was in love with the idea.”

Twitter grows up……

The four year company has had its first developer conference in San Francisco this week……

There the company ‘s ‘Chirp’ meeting is the site of several announcements of new features…..

No matter what a small company starts off as…growing is about developing new products that gains market share for you……

The bigger your company gets……

The bigger the payroll is to pay…..

“They’ve gone from a data play to a platform play,” saidJeremiah Owyang, a partner at Altimeter Group, a digital strategy consulting firm. “You’re seeing the same behavior that FacebookGoogle and other online communities have done. This is a natural evolution of a Web company.”

As evidence of its growth, Twitter revealed some previously undisclosed numbers. It has 106 million registered users and is adding new users at the rate of 300,000 a day. Those customers write 55 million daily posts, and 180 million people log on to Twitter.com each month to read them.

Despite the growth, Twitter has a pressing need to make the service easier to understand for new users, said Evan Williams, its chief executive. “It’s amazing it’s grown so fast given how hard it is to use.”

One of the new features Twitter announced is called points of interest. People on Twitter have been able to include their general location. But now they will be able to reveal exactly where they are. People will be able to search for a certain location, like a concert hall or hotel, and see all the posts written from that spot.

This is similar to the check-ins on Foursquare, Gowalla……..

Note....The Dog wishes to thank the Twitter service…. which helps this blog reach more people everyday!

This Administration goes after Blackwater…….

blackwater guard

The Blackwater (ne: Xe Company ) did a lot of business with the United States government and state and local law enforcement people during the Bush years……(it’s founder and ex-President was a Navy SEAL for 20 years )

But after Bush left..things got sideways……

The end came with the shooting in downtown Iraq several years ago by a Blackwater motorcade escort group ….that left Iraqi civilians dead……

While the Justice Department went after the players in that action..they got off due to the Sate Departments Special Agents actions…..

The political call went to the State Department to cut ties with the company…but that would take a long time simply because the Sate Department did not have the man power to provide it’s staff with personal protection in Iraq…..

Xe, in the meantime made a decision to exit the Iraq theatre security business on its own……

Most people don’t know that Xe/Blackwater provides realistic training for a lot of local, state and federal law enforcement agencies…..which has those agencies and it officers , agents and other staff as friends…..

With these charges…involving guns sent to Jordan circumventing US rules and regulations..the Justice Department is signaling that Xe/Blackwater  is not in the good graces of the current administration in Washington DC…..

We will see how this plays in the future…….

The former president of Blackwater Worldwide was charged Friday with using straw purchases to stockpile automatic weapons at the security firm and filing false documents to cover up gifts given to the king of Jordan.

Gary Jackson, 52, who left the company last year in a management shake-up, was charged along with four of his former colleagues, according to the federal indictment.

The prosecution opens a new front of the government’s oversight of the sullied security company. Several of the company’s contractors have previously been charged with federal crimes for their actions in war zones, but the company’s executives have thus far weathered a range of investigations.

Blackwater has been trying to rehabilitate its image since a 2007 shooting in Baghdad that left 17 people dead, outraged the Iraqi government and led to a federal charges against several Blackwater guards — accusations later thrown out of court after a judge found prosecutors mishandled evidence. Around the time that Jackson left the company, Blackwater changed its name to Xe Services.

The charges against Jackson include a conspiracy to violate firearms laws, false statements, possession of a machine gun and possession of an unregistered firearm. Also indicted were former Blackwater general counsel Andrew Howell, 44; former executive vice president Bill Mathews, 44; former procurement vice president Ana Bundy, 45; and former weapons manager Ronald Slezak, 65.

The case stems in part from a raid conducted by federal agents at the company’s headquarters in Moyock in 2008 that seized 22 weapons, including 17 AK-47s.

Toyota Agrees with Consumer Union on The Lexus460…..The vehicle IS unsafe….

2010 Lexus GX 460

[ The Lexus460 SUV ]

In a compliment to Consumer’s Union……

Toyota has agreed that its Lexus460 is prone to stability control problems that could turn the vehicle over….

Toyota must be commented on two fronts …which shows that they have learned from the Pruis recall…

First …within 12 hours of CU’s warning they stopped selling the vehicle….

Second…after testing they admitted they had a problem….and will promptly fix it….

This is the way the system is supposed to work….

Cars are complex machines that are compromises better cost, safety, style and manufacturing….

S*#t happens….

We all expect the builder of the vehicle to fix any problems and move on……

Toyota says its engineers in Japan have duplicated the same errant slide that prompted Consumer Reports to issue a rare “don’t buy” warning on the 2010 Lexus GX 460, and Toyota agrees the vehicle has a safety problem.

“They duplicated Consumer Reports’ results on the GX 460 and they are currently evaluating potential remedies, but at this point there is no details of what the remedy is,” said Bill Kwong, a Lexus spokesman.

On Tuesday, Consumer Reports announced what it considered a serious safety problem.

“When pushed to its limits on our track’s handling course,” the magazine wrote on its Web site, “the rear of the GX we bought slid out until the vehicle was almost sideways before the electronic stability control system was able to regain control.”

On every other S.U.V. tested the same way –- including models from Lexus and Toyota –- the electronic stability control quickly caught the slide, the magazine said.

About 12 hours after the magazine publicized the problem, Lexus told its dealers to stop selling the GX 460 and launched an investigation. On Thursday, Toyota said it was conducting safety inspections of all its S.U.V. models.

US Housing starts rise……

Yesterday I did a post on foreclosures rising….

What gives?

Developers are building more homes while people lose more homes…..

Is it a geographical thing?

If the builders are a bit more optimistic, consumers are not.

Despite widely reported improving economic conditions, the University of Michigan’s consumer surveys, released Friday, showed the consumer sentiment index dropping to 69.5 in April, from 73.6 in March. The new level was the lowest in five months.

“While consumers think the overall economy will continue to improve, they still hold quite negative views on their own income and job prospects,” Richard Curtin, director of the surveys, said in a statement.

With the housing numbers, analysts had been expecting an annual rate of 610,000 for March. They were nonetheless unimpressed.

“The bottom line: the housing turnaround remains painfully slow,” said Jennifer H. Lee of BMO Capital Markets.

One reason for their caution: Most of the increase in March was in multi-unit construction, which tends to be volatile. Single-family homes actually fell slightly.

Here we go again!…The GOP wants to rewrite the Wall Street Regulations Bill…..

De Ja’ Vu…..

The Healthcare Bill dance all over….

Didn’t we just do this?

I suppose that’s how the system works…..

We can look forward to hand-wring, name calling, side deals for certain state, presidential calls and peep talks, Wall Street bashing and media hype…..plus a big dose of watering down the language…..

In the end there will be rules…..

Which the Wall Street people will figure out how to get around in ten minutes and make even MORE money…..

All 41 Senate Republicans have signed a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) urging him to reopen bipartisan negotiations on a Wall Street reform bill.

The unified Republican front puts pressure on Democratic leaders to make revisions to legislation drafted by Senate Banking Committee Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) with substantial input from the White House.

“We are united in our opposition to the partisan legislation reported by the Senate Banking Committee,” Republicans wrote in the letter. “As currently constructed, this bill allows for endless taxpayer bailouts of Wall Street and establishes new and unlimited regulatory powers that will stifle small businesses and community banks.”

The letter is significant because it presents a unified front and shows Reid that he cannot pass financial regulatory reform without making some changes. Democrats need at least one Republican vote to muster the 60 needed to overcome various procedural objections.

The letter, however, is not as strong as some GOP lawmakers described earlier in the week.

Roger Stone is backing Kristin Davis for New York Governor….

The ‘self-proclaimed Dark Prince of political dirty tricks’…..turns on Eliot Spitzer……

He is backing Spitzer’s madam ‘s for a run at the Governorship of New York……

Huh???

Kristin Davis

Ms. Davis’s unproven claim to have also served as Mr. Spitzer’s procurer is so often repeated in her news releases that one might mistake it for a central plank of her platform, which includes legalizing, regulating and taxing prostitution and marijuana, and legalizing gay marriage.

Thus it is perhaps no coincidence that nearly every reference to her run for the office that Mr. Spitzer once held brings with it, for better or worse, an echo of his disgrace.

Though Mr. Stone’s name does not appear on the State Board of Elections forms filed by the committee Ms. Davis formed, the Friends of Kristin Davis, the three-page document nonetheless reveal traces of Mr. Stone, a longtime Republican consultant who has referred to politics as “performance art” and revels in a cloak-and-dagger sensibility.

For example, the home telephone number for the campaign’s treasurer, Andrew Miller, is in fact linked to Mr. Stone; the cellphone for Mr. Miller is associated with Mr. Stone’s Florida public relations company, Drake Ventures.

Indeed, Mr. Miller, a fresh-faced young man in his 20s, is the stepson of Mr. Stone’s assistant of 18 years, Diane Thorne, Mr. Stone said in an e-mail message.

And then there is the matter of the address the young treasurer listed on the Board of Elections committee registration form — 55 West 25th Street in Manhattan. It appears that it is from Apartment 25L in that building that the campaign is run.

It was in the same stylish building that Ashley Dupré, the Emperors Club prostitute whose tryst with Mr. Spitzer was detailed in federal court papers, lived at the time of their assignation and its disclosure.

Mr. Stone, who also acknowledged by e-mail that the apartment there is his, said that he chose the address for another reason.
