The Financial Reform Bill clears second Senate Committee…Grassley signs on…..

In a strong pat on the back for Arkansas Senator Blanche Lincoln…..’The Senate Agriculture Committee voted 13-8 in favor of the bill, which would impose regulations on the complex system of Wall Street trades known as derivatives’………

The Bill..which has passed both the Senate Agriculture and Banking Committee’s…will now go to the entire Senate where Republican’s will be asked to sign on in consideration for some compromises…..

The Bill IS expected to pass with some Bipartisan support……

"This bill will bring 100 percent transparency to a currently unregulated, dark market," Sen. Blanche Lincoln said.

“This bill will bring 100 percent transparency to a currently unregulated, dark market,” Sen. Blanche Lincoln said.

Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa was the lone Republican to vote with Democrats on the agriculture panel for the bill.

While Wednesday’s hearing was but one step in the legislative process, it could provide part of the framework for a congressional deal on financial reform legislation — a major priority of the Obama administration.

Republican senators who last week expressed unanimous opposition to the Banking Committee’s bill now, after continued negotiations, say a compromise is possible.

“Both sides have expressed a willingness to make the changes needed to ensure without any doubt that this bill won’t put taxpayers on the hook for future bailouts of Wall Street banks,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, said Tuesday. “I’m heartened to hear that bipartisan talks have resumed in earnest.”

Sen. Blanche Lincoln, D-Arkansas, the Agriculture Committee‘s chair, opened the hearing by saying the legislation would confront “tough problems” in trying to increase regulation of Wall Street trading.

Lincoln, who is expected to face a tough re-election campaign this year, called the proposal “a robust package that balances the needs of strong, meaningful reform and recognizes the needs of these markets.”

“This bill will bring 100 percent transparency to a currently unregulated, dark market,” she said.

House Democrats use Healthcare vote to raise money……

While the Republicans try to keep Healthcare alive as a bad thing for Democrats…….

House Democratic members  are smiling…..

It seems that the more the GOP keeps the issue alive…..

The more money they take in……..

Rep. Earl Pomeroy (D-N.D.) raised more than $140,000 from PACs and fellow members in the final 10 days of the quarter — which was more than one-third of the $400,000 total he raised for the entire quarter.

Rep. Scott Murphy (D-N.Y.) raised more than $100,000 from political committees after deciding to vote yes on the bill, and he raised about $475,000 overall.

Reps. Debbie Halvorson (D-Ill.) and Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) weren’t far behind, each raising more than $90,000 from PACs and fellow members of

Congress in the final week-plus of the quarter. Halvorson raised $410,000 total, while Giffords raised nearly $500,000.

Frequent givers included labor unions and left-leaning groups like the Human Rights Campaign PAC. Several liberal members of Congress who championed the bill, including Reps. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) and Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.), also rewarded those who voted yes with contributions.

While members flooded each other’s coffers in the final days of the first-quarter fundraising period, House leaders gave little to those who voted no on healthcare reform. In the final week-plus of the quarter, neither Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) nor Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) gave money to any member who voted no.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) Chairman Chris Van Hollen (Md.) did send money to some “no” votes through their leadership PACs. Hoyer’s PAC gave money to eight of the 34 Democrats who voted no, with all eight considered vulnerable this year.

The SEC will not be the only problem fro Goldmen-Sachs…..

The  Attorney General’s of New York and Massacuetes have already went to court against the financial giant……

And the line is forming for more legal action……

After discussions with the office of state Attorney General Martha Coakley (D), Goldman last year agreed to pay up to $60 million to end that investigation, the first major settlement involving Wall Street’s role in the subprime mortgage crisis.

“Goldman was particularly active with respect to facilitating the lending by two of the more notorious and unsound subprime lenders — Fremont and New Century,” Coakley said Wednesday. “Goldman was especially active with these companies in the latter stages of the subprime lending boom . . . when it should have been increasingly clear to any responsible person that the subprime loan pools underlying securitizations suffered serious problems.”

Even before the Securities and Exchange Commission sued Goldman last week, accusing it of creating a complex financial product designed to fail and selling it to unknowing investors, the firm had been a frequent target of investigators. In courts and in Congress, Goldman has been accused of a range of misdeeds, from manipulating oil prices to using taxpayer money for handsome bonuses.

The company has maintained that it did nothing improper in any of those cases, and in the Massachusetts settlement it admitted to no wrongdoing. Yet, to many Goldman critics, the SEC lawsuit underscores their worst image of the bank as a cold firm that places its profit before anything else — client interests, customer needs and its obligation to society as a leading American corporation.

Also…..

In 2008, Goldman agreed to pay tens of millions of dollars to settle allegations by the New York state attorney general, who argued that it misled investors about the safety of an instrument known as an auction-rate security. Late last year, several pension funds filed lawsuits charging the company’s directors with breach of duty in connection with outsize executive paydays; Goldman has said the suit lacks merit.

Tiger Woods will be playing more Golf….

He has made commitments to play in two more tournaments……

He is back….

tiger woods flexing

Just as he did before the Masters and next week’s PGA Tour event, the Quail Hollow Championship, Woods on Wednesday committed early to the Players Championship, set to begin May 6 at T.P.C. Sawgrass, and to theAT&T National, which will start July 1 at the Aronimink Golf Club outside Philadelphia.

If four times a trend makes, it appears that Woods and his team recognized that tournaments require more than one week’s notice to deal with the increased demand for tickets and security that accompany his appearances.

Woods wrote on his Web site that future commitments will be appearing throughout the year. His normal routine had been to wait until the tour’s deadline of 5 p.m. on the preceding Friday to commit.

The tour first distributed a news release with the announcement about Woods’s commitment to the Players. Shortly afterward, Woods announced the commitments to the Players and the AT&T National on his Web site.

In the tour statement announcing Woods’s commitment, the vice president and executive director of the Players, Jay Monahan, expressed hope that the early commitment could lead to record crowds at T.P.C. Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

Daniel…..CA-19 Primaries: Former U. S. Rep. Richard W. Pombo (R-CA) still trails Republican Challengers to get back to Congress; Loraine Goodwin leads among Democrats new Survey USA Poll finds ……

Hello all!

Former U. S. Rep. Richard W. Pombo (R-CA) who lost to Democrat Jerry McNerney (D-CA) in 2006 and is now running for the California – 19 District Seat George Radanovich (R-CA) is vacating might not have picked the best Time to run for Congress again.

A new Survey USA Poll shows Pombo trailing his Republican Challengers, former Fresno Mayor Jim Patterson (R-CA) and State Senator Jeff Denham (R-CA) by 10 and 11 Points.

Meanwhile among Democrats Physician Loraine Goodwin (D-CA) has a slim 3-Point lead over Real Estatate Consultant John Estrada (D-CA)

KFSN-TV / Survey USA Poll

California 19th Congressional District

Republican Primary

State Senator Jeff Denham  27 %
Former Fresno Mayor Jim Patterson  26 %
Former U. S. Rep. Richard W. Pombo  16 %
Fresno City Councilman Larry Westerlund  6 %
Undecided  25 %

Democratic Primary

Physician Loraine Goodwin  18 %
Real Estate Consultant John Estrada  15 %

CA-19 Voters Show No Favorites in Race to Replace Radanovich: In primary elections for US House of Representatives in California’s 19th Congressional District today, 04/20/2010, 20 days until early voting begins, likely voters in both Republican and Democratic primaries are divided over who they will nominate to run in the general election, according to this latest exclusive KFSN-TV poll conducted by SurveyUSA.

In the Republican primary, state senator Jeff Denham and former Fresno mayor Jim Patterson are even — Denham at 27%, Patterson at 26%. Richard Pombo, who represented the neighboring 11th Congressional District for 7 terms, gets 16%. Compared to an identical SurveyUSA poll released one month ago, the contest is unchanged. 25% of likely voters are today undecided.

In the Democratic primary, voters are less focused, with 56% of likely voters in a Democratic primary today undecided, and three candidates within 8 points of one another. Doctor and lawyer Loraine Goodwin gets 18% today; real estate consultant John Estrada gets 15%; retired actor Les Marsden gets 10%. Compared to an identical poll released one month ago, Estrada has lost ground, and his opponents have gained, but with more than half of likely voters undecided, this movement may not be significant. Estrada runs twice as strongly among Hispanic voters as he does in the general population; Goodwin runs three times as strongly among black voters as she does in the general population.

California voters who decline to state a party preference may vote in either party’s primary: 5% of those who say they are likely to vote in the Republican primary and 4% of those likely to vote in the Democratic primary are “DTS” voters.

Filtering: 1,650 registered voters were interviewed by SurveyUSA 04/16/10 through 04/19/10, using Registration Based Sample (RBS) from Aristotle in Washington DC. Of the registered voters, 769 were determined by SurveyUSA to be likely to vote in the Republican primary; 412 were determined to be likely to vote in the Democratic primary. Incumbent Republican George Radanovich is not seeking re-election.

Ladies and Gentlemen!….The New $100 Bill!

Betcha you didn’t know the US Treasury went out a changed it, huh?

Well they did……

Money,money

The $100 bill has received a high-tech makeover in a bid to stay ahead of crafty counterfeiters. But will it be enough?

Benjamin Franklin is still on the front of the bill. But he is now joined by a disappearing Liberty Bell in an inkwell and a bright blue security ribbon made up of thousands of tiny lenses that will magnify objects in mysterious ways. Move the bill, and the objects move in a different direction.

The new currency won’t go into circulation until Feb. 10 of next year, which will give the government time to educate the public in the United States and around the world about the changes — and there are many.

The blue security ribbon will give off a 3-D effect to the tiny images which thousands of lenses will  magnify. Tilt the note back and forth and you will see tiny bells on the ribbon change to 100s as they move.

Also, to the right of Franklin’s face is a small inkwell that will change color from copper to green when the note is tilted. The movement will also make a Liberty Bell appear and disappear inside the inkwell. Fancy, right?
