The US Air Force 45th Space Wing gets the unmanned X-37B up………'Dream Chaser' may be the next US manned space vehicle……

Looks like the Air Force had a succesful launch……

They are now in the unmanned space shuttle business on their own…..

NASA  has only few more manned Shuttle Flights before they shut down operations sometime this fall….

At that time the United States of American will be unable to place a human is space for the forseeable future…..

Private space travel will be the next step for the United States….

The most promising vehicle will be the ‘Dream Chaser’ manned spacecraft (owned by Sierra Nevada Corporation ) which is a old NASA design

Dream Chaser

(HL-20 ) that has been tested…but abandoned by NASA in favor of the soon to be deactivated Space Shuttle…..

Sierra Nevada has been awarded $20 million to future develop its space plane system…as the President undoubtedly knows……..

CAPE CANAVERAL AIR FORCE STATION, Fla. — The 45th Space Wing successfully launched a United Launch Alliance-built Atlas V Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle from Space Launch Complex 41 at 7:52 p.m. (EDT) today.

The Atlas V rocket carried the X-37B Orbital Test Vehicle (OTV), making its first space flight. The X-37B will provide a flexible space test platform to conduct various experiments and allow satellite sensors, subsystems, components and associated technology to be efficiently transported to and from the space environment where it will need to function. A number of new technologies will also be tested on the OTV itself.

“If these technologies on the vehicle prove to be as good as we estimate, it will make our access to space more responsive, perhaps cheaper, and push us in the vector toward being able to react to warfighter needs more quickly,” said Mr. Gary Payton, Air Force Deputy Under Secretary for Space Programs.

“This launch helps ensure that our warfighters will be provided the capabilities they need in the future,” said Col. André Lovett, 45th Space Wing vice commander, Launch Decision Authority for the mission. “The 45th Space Wing is proud to launch this historic mission and continue our commitment to assuring access to the high frontier.”
The mission marked a number of important firsts.

“As the first U.S. unmanned reentering space vehicle, the first of its kind, it has been remarkably easy to work with,” said Lt. Col. Erik Bowman, 45th Launch Support Squadron Commander. “Processing and preparations went extremely smooth, and there were absolutely no delays in the vehicle processing. Overall there was great cooperation between the Air Force and industry teams of Boeing, ULA, and Astrotech, where we processed the spacecraft, to make sure everything went smoothly.”

The mission was also the first-ever launch of an Atlas V with the 501 configuration, requiring no solid rocket motors, and the first launch in some five years to involve a 5-meter class fairing, said Colonel Bowman. “This vehicle is light enough to launch without the solid rocket motors even with the larger fairing, making this a rather unique configuration.”

ABC and Fox ban a Lane Bryant 'Big girl' underwear commercial……

Wait…..do they ban size ‘0’ Victoria Secret underwear commercials?

And since we know that all those American mothers out there who have kids are size zero……

I guess they just gotta watch all these starved model’s dance around, right?

I still don’t get why this country won’t admit that most of it’s beautiful and sexy females aren’t walking sticks??????

Lane

The Big Girls aren’t welcome on The Alphabet: Plus-size label Lane Bryant says that a commercial advertising their new line of lingerie has been rejected by ABC and FOX.

Lane Bryant’s controversial new lingerie ad, featuring busty, plus-sized models, will finally air on Fox next Wednesday, during the closing minutes of the 9 p.m. edition of “American Idol.”

The women’s clothing manufacturer had claimed both Fox and ABC objected to the commercial’s content.

Though the commercial will now air on “Idol,” both client and media still seem peeved. Lane Bryant has accused the networks of bias against large-size women and their cleavages — and the networks have denied such claims, accusing Lane Bryant of trying to milk a non-story for publicity purposes.

Lane Bryant took its battle to the blogosphere Tuesday with a rather testy entry on its Inside Curve venue, lambasting Fox and ABC for resisting efforts to place the ad in shows including “Dancing With the Stars” and “Idol.”

It complained that it was being treated differently from Victoria’s Secret, which has aired spots on both networks. The company said it was “disappointed” that Fox rejected the ad three times.

Wanna Know Wednesday: Privacy…Invasion or Privilege?…from Up 4 Discussion…..

From JSin…….

Hey readers!

It’s Wednesday and we have a great Wanna Know Wednesdaydiscussion for you this week.

Have you ever been in a relationship and had your partner ask you if they could look through your phone?…or check your texts?..or your e-mails?…or what about have the password to your facebook account?

Or better yet have you ever caught a partner going through or attempting to go through your phone or computer?

If you answered yes to any of those questions this discussion is perfect for you to share your experiences!

If you hadn’t guessed already, this week we would like to discuss PRIVACY in a relationship.  Is it a privilege to be in a relationship where you have privacy and don’t have to worry about your partner going through your stuff unless you give them permission to?  Or is it aninvasion of privacy when your partner goes through your stuff, with or without permission?

Personally, I believe that if my partner has a desire to go through my phone or computer it is because they don’t fully trust me.  More likely than not I don’t have anything to hide so I wouldn’t mind letting her check my phone all she wants.  She isn’t going to find anything……

More……....and a video and polls…..

A Palestinian state by 2011?

From Talkandpolitics.…….

Haaretz reports:

Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad recently announced that his government intends to declare an independent Palestinian state in the summer of 2011, even if no agreement is reached with Israel.

Good analysis on ramifications and game-changing move to negotiations over borders, territory and security in the gridlocked Israeli/Palestine conflict. This could perhaps maybe actually slowly steadily cautiously move the region somewhat closer to and eventually entering… a peaceful outcome and agreement between the two countries.

A little History from Obama on Wall Street……

From PolitcalWire……

Historical Quote of the Day

“Through the great banking houses of Manhattan last week ran wild-eyed alarm. Big bankers stared at one another in anger and astonishment. A bill just passed by both houses of Congress would rivet upon their institutions what they considered a monstrous system of guaranteeing bank deposits. Such a system, they felt, would not only rob them of their pride of profession but would reduce all U. S. banking to its lowest level. They saw their deposits which they had spent a lifetime to build up and protect with their good names confiscated by the Government to pay for the mistakes and dishonesty of every smalltown bankster.”

— Time magazine, June 5,1933. President Obama quoted the article in his speech on financial reform today.

Goldman-Sachs CEO and Chair is a a Hero to Wall Street and the locals……Obama trys to be firm but….nice……

While the media fell over themselves ……winding up for a Obama confrontation with Wall Street……

Things didn’t quite happen that way……..

The president played to a full House and essentially invited the ‘Street’ to not fight upcoming bill in public……

Obama smacks down Wall St. -- then asks CEOs for help

Everyone in the room, and many financial-industry workers who watched the speech on televisions or computer screens in their offices, knew the leaders of Wall Street’s big banks had serious reservations about the financial-regulation package, which would bring new scrutiny, costs and limitations to their businesses.

But after the speech, many expressed their opposition only privately.

“These certainly look like scare tactics to me, a warning that either Wall Street is with the Obama administration or against it,” muttered one senior banker. “No CEO in their right mind is going to come out against whatever the president says, and I think this will play out all behind the scenes in Washington.”

Because Mr. Obama was a guest in Wall Street’s backyard, and because the legislation appears set to pass, his hosts opted to be polite, or not show up. Bank of America Corp. CEO Brian Moynihan was away from New York with “some long-planned other activities” and so could not make it to the speech, a spokesman said. J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. CEO James Dimon, a Democrat who has grown frustrated with Washington, also didn’t attend due to a previous commitment in Chicago.

“I think it was a very forceful speech that laid out the president’s thoughts quite clearly,” said Nasdaq OMX Group Inc. Chief Executive Officer Robert Greifeld. “Hopefully, Congress can work in a meaningful way to push a bill forward.”

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said the speech was not aimed at Wall Street chief executives, but at a broader audience……

But the entrance of the Goldman-Sach Boss was greeted VERY warmly, also…….

Lloyd Blankfein of Goldman Sachs may be in trouble with the SEC, but he was greeted like a celebrity at Cooper Union – including by several local public officials who made a special effort to introduce themselves, the Daily New’s Erin Einhorn reports.

amd_blankfein.jpg

Blankfein, surrounded by a mob of cameras, waded through the dense crowd toward an area directly in front of the stage where local pols were sitting.

Rep. Carolyn Maloney buttonholed him to thank him for a small business development program Goldman is doing at LaGuardia Community College in her district. “It’s such a wonderful thing you’re trying to do there. It’s going to help employ a lot of people,” she said.

Blankfein answered that it would “help the small businesses but also help support the infrastructure for the college to deliver, so it’s kind of a double whammy.”

“And your intiative for women, also, I think is very helpful,” Maloney answered.

Blankfein was then introduced to City Controller John Liu, telling him: “I’ve seen you on TV!”

The situation here looks like it plays this way to the Dog…..

There will be a bill….period….

The “Street’ will not oppose the Bill in public…..

But will work quietly with the Democrats and GOP to get what they think they can’t swallow watered down or removed….

And they will keep giving to their favorite politicians (Blanfein is a Democrat ) for this ability to quietly have their feelings listened to in the formation of the bill….

Obama’s speech was window dressing (hyped by the media and WH )…and he was very careful to ask these ‘fat cats’ to join him on the bill…not attack them personally…..

He runs for re-election too soon……..

The Navy has banned smoking on its subs…and will allow women and gay sailors……

Did I hear Congress say Something?

Allowing gay sailors isn’t really a change…..

There have always been gay sailors..who are we kidding…

But Women?

That’s gonna be a change…..

Being on sub..is not like being on a Air Craft Carrier…..

It’s tight, boring and stressfull….

There are going to be’ boy /girl’ problems that’s for sure….and that will be a extra task for the ship’s Captain’s to handle…

But opening the door to females will find some very good ones (the female officer’s will be first to serve aboard the boats ) and some trouble makers…….same as male sailors…

But there will be more availabe to serve …which should make things better for the Navy…..

Captain’s always have problems..it comes with command…..

Submarine commanders have been trying to reassure their crews — as well as lawmakers — about the changes. The Navy announced the smoking ban April 8 and said it would offer programs to help sailors kick the habit by the end of the year. After making noises last fall about letting women join the Submarine Force, the Defense Department formally notified Congress in February of its intentions. Congress has until the end of this month to weigh in, but so far it appears the decision is fait accompli.

As commander of Submarine Group 10, based at Kings Bay, Ga., Rear Adm. Barry L. Bruner has acknowledged in his blog that anxieties persist. “I have listened to concerns and understand that there will [be] some difficulties,” wrote Bruner, the leader of the Navy’s task force on integrating women into sub crews. “However, I have no doubt that it is the absolutely right thing to do and we are working hard to ensure a smooth transition.”

Not all bubbleheads, as submariners are commonly known, are convinced. Of all the pending changes, the introduction of women seems to be igniting the strongest reactions, according to interviews with active-duty and veteran sailors. The complaints often fall into two categories: first, that female sailors will invariably become pregnant, potentially compromising missions during which submarines can remain submerged for months at a time; and second, that submarines are not built for the mixing of the sexes, given the tight passageways, shared berths and lack of privacy.
