The New York Mets Take a Doubleheader and keep winning….. putting themselves in First Place!

New York Mets third baseman David Wright drives in the go-ahead run in the fifth and Ike Davis (below) follows with a two-run double to put the Mets up, 6-3.

[ David Wright…The ‘Franchise’ along with Jose Reyes for the Mets….]

They started off like garbage…..

But have won 8 of their last 9 games….

Including yesterdays double-header against Joe Torre’s Dodgers ( A former Met coach )….. in the cool spring weather….

Now if they can stay health after the ALL-Star game……

David Wright and Jason Bay had hoped for more April moments like this. For Bay, it was a long-awaited home run, the ball clearing the fence, a standing ovation, and teammates surrounding him in the dugout. Wright yearned to drive in more runs, and probably – though he would never say it – .silence the booing at Citi Field.

The Mets somehow managed to stay relevant for nearly a month with minimal contributions from the middle of their lineup. With the team now, shockingly, in first place after Philadelphia‘s loss in San Francisco Tuesday night, its missing stars arrived at the party – and rookie Ike Davis remained a central part of it.

Bay’s first home run as a Met keyed a 4-0 victory over Los Angeles in the first game of a doubleheader, and Wright’s run-scoring single broke a tie in the fifth inning of a 10-5 Game 2 win. Davis followed that with a two-run double.

Wright’s hit made him the eighth Met to achieve 1,000 hits for the team, but he was not finished; a three-run triple in the sixth turned a modest lead into a romp. It also led the Mets to their sixth consecutive victory, and lifted them to 8-1 on the home stand. Now, with a suddenly buzz-worthy series looming this weekend in Philadelphia, the Mets sluggers are beginning to emerge.

“I’m just glad I could finally contribute to a win,” Wright said.

Note….Did the Yankee’s drop a bit?

  2. James,

Don’t think this Met fans is as dumb as the Wilpon’s to believe a bank Statement from the biggest Ponzi scheme on this side of the Hudson River. The Mets will lose and have a 500 season, lock that one up. Or as Howie Rose says, “put it in the books.”
