Kathleen Rice rolls out her first Video in her race for New York State AG…..

<br /> (Kathleen Rice's FaceBook)

[ Rice’s Facebook page ]

Listen….. I like the lady…..

Not because I’ve met her a couple of times…..

But because she started off running as a no-nonsense put drunk drivers in jail candidate ..that appeared to me as unplolished….the first time I heard her work a room….

The last time I saw her was remarkable….

A better speaker…

More confident…..

And pushing the fact that you CAN’T lock everybody up…..

Experience…is a wonderful teacher…..

Here’s a piece on her first video…and a staff follow-up on my point of her evolving as a mature politician…..

Here’s Kathleen Rice’s campaign kick-off video, in which she talks about her record of fighting crime and protecting victims.

Rice focuses on her work as a prosecutor, which, she said, is the “last line of defense against the worst elements of humanity. And I was good at it.”

Her message is a strong contrast to Eric Schneiderman‘s. He has spoken emphatically about the criminal justice system disproportionately locking up minorities. He is pushing for alternatives to incarceration that he says would work better and be cheaper.

And in case you’re wondering how many times Rice says the word crime, I counted 16.

UPDATE: Rice is not ceding the criminal justice / reform territory. Her spokesman, Shams Tarek, emails to say: “Despite the urge to set up this contrast, D.A. Rice is well known for her innovative diversionary approach in which she gets police, clergy, social service agencies and the community to all work together to stop crime before it happens……

      • James B, is the Education Commissioner and Insurance Commissioner elected statewide though ?

Remember, California added an elected statewide office of Insurance Commissioner in 1990.

  6. Sorry, but she is full of Shit…Terror Avenue is really cleaned up, okay, then how come there were at least two shootings that I know about in 100 Terrace alone in the past six months. Gang Violence in Nassau is way up rather than down, she doesn’t have a great record as far as I am concerned. But what are the alternatives? Not much, no wonder why this country is going down the drain.

  7. Good point!

I will give this as an answer….

Recently the guy who came out last in the Democratic upstate AG straw poll made the same point….

    BullShit!

The DA of any county has NO control over crime…
The DA tries the cases that that the cops bring in…PERIOD…

To hold aDA responsible for crime levels is asinine and BatShit crazy…..

If the county executive supplies his police department with manpower and the tools to crack down on crime…..

    Then I’m listening…..

Police can be pro active…..DA’s clean -up after the fact…..

    • The only reason I bring this up is because she brings it up in her add. She takes credit for amassing this huge law enforcement model in Hempstead that encompasses police, the DA’s office and community groups. She is trying to take credit for allegedly cleaning up terrace ave, which means decreasing crime and drug sales, but then when we discuss the ailments of Nassau we can’t then put her as partially to blame, that is batshit crazy. She is tring to have it both ways in her add taking credit for one thing, but then absolving yourself from other things. I am not buying, you can buy it if you want.

But like I said are there any alternatives. They are all full of shit and we both know it

  8. you just said a political truism…..

    heads I win….tails you lose………

I agree she shouldn’t be using it…you’re right

But it’s the cops that do the heavy lifting….Not the DA…..
