Talkandpolitcs……Newsweek down the drain……

Seems like no-one is bidding on Newsweek – even as chief editor Jon Meacham is touring the networks and Daily Show this week. But who wants to pay for print and distribution anymore – when a blog from Fareed Zakaria, Eleanor Clift or Robert J. Samuelson is all you need.

Good writers and columnists will be in abundance in the future – even better and more varied than today. And we’ll save lots of trees in the process!

  2. RIP but Newsweek has always been Time’s weak sister.

These news weeklies were the CNN’s of their time. At one time I subscribed to Time, Newsweek, and the US News and World Report. We always had Life or the Saturday Evening Post around the house before that. The US News and World Report was the most no nonsense read but there was never enough in it.

When Time split into People magazine I kinda dropped all of them. I also had Fortune for a while. Popular Mechanics always had plans for a boat you could build preferably in your basement. And all those National Geographics too. They all collected in great big piles because I could never throw them away. They did go however.

What broke me of the habit was when we had a labor shortage and the supermarkets could not get enough help. (It was the Pills fault!) I would take them off the rack and be finished reading them before I even got to empty the cart.

I guess MAD magazine now costs about $5.00. And it’s amazing Playboy still gets published. I personally have not paid for a magazine in years even though you can win MILLIONS in those PRIZE PATROL sweepstakes!
