Lookin Lucky and Super Saver will skip The Belmont Stakes…..

Lookin Lucky is the Preakness Stakes winner horse….

Super Saver  is the Kentucky  Derby winner horse….

The first horse could run Belmont but will not….The second horse is tired and will not……

The will be no Triple Crown Winner…..

Horse racing is a tough game, and those in it know that no matter how fast and talented a horse is, luck is more often than not going to determine who gets to the winners’ circle. From 1997 to 2002, Baffert won eight Triple Crown races. He did not win another until Saturday.

Lookin at Lucky was as snakebitten as they come. Last year, he won five of six races and was named the 2-year-old champion. This year, Lookin at Lucky and his regular rider, Garrett Gomez, endured three brutal trips, including a bumper-car mash-up on the rail of the Derby to lose all chance at victory in the opening eighth of a mile.

Baffert decided to give the Preakness mount to the hot jockey Martin Garcia to “change his luck,” and the 25-year-old Garcia gave the colt a perfect ride. Voilà, the tandem crossed the wire first.

Those in the sport may not start to adopt the attitude that the result of a race is out of their control, but you can tell by listening to Nick Zito that they try to master their emotions. Zito is a Hall of Fame trainer who has won the Derby and the Belmont twice and the Preakness once. Still, at least 10 times a week, he mutters: “This is a game that humbles kings.”

In the Derby, Zito watched his colt Ice Box stop three times in traffic but still manage to rocket past a herd of horses in the stretch to nearly catch Super Saver. In the Preakness, another of his colts, Jackson Bend, was bottled up in the stretch before escaping to finish less than a length behind Lookin at Lucky and a head behind the second-place finisher, First Dude.

In the course of a mini-monologue, Zito can sound like a railbird who was one unlucky break from cashing a big ticket.

“I hate making excuses,” he said. “But a little break here and there, it might have been a little closer or a lot closer. We could have won the thing.”

He can also sound like a philosopher and poet……
