Nicole and Derek Win 'Dancing With the Stars'…..

Congratulations!…..You two deserve it!……They can dance their behinds off!

Nicole Scherzinger and partner Derek Hough dominated throughout the 10th season of the hit ABC show and bested Olympic gold medalist Evan Lysacek to win the ”Dancing” crown Tuesday night.

Scherzinger performed a high-energy jive as her final dance that earned a perfect score of 30 and inspired head judge Len Goodman to say, ”There can only be one winner of ‘Dancing With the Stars.’ It should be you.”

Lysacek’s quickstep also earned the judges’ praise, but just 28 points.

”It’s been such a blast,” the champion figure skater said. ”We are totally satisfied with everything we gave. We’re so proud of Nicole and Derek. They deserve it. … They inspired all the other couples in the competition.”

Scherzinger and Hough kissed the mirrorball trophy as they were hoisted on the shoulders of other dancers.

ESPN sportscaster Erin Andrews, the third finalist, and her professional partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy were eliminated from the dance-off halfway through the two-hour season closer, leaving Lysacek and partner Anna Trebunskaya, and Scherzinger to face each other.

Earlier in the evening, all three pairs each danced an Argentine tango and earned glowing remarks from the judges.

Carrie Ann Inaba called Lysacek’s performance ”perfect” and Scherzinger’s ”like a beautiful masterpiece come to life.”

Though being on the show ”has meant everything” to Andrews, she said she knew the fight for the title would be between Lysacek and Scherzinger.

”I came here under really crummy circumstances,” Andrews said. ”I just wanted to be myself again.” Andrews was the victim of a stalker, who was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison for following the reporter to at least three cities and shooting videos of her through hotel peepholes.

Gesturing toward Chmerkovskiy, she said, ”This one has just put my life back together, so I’m so thankful.”

Daily Manila……..Louisiana……Oil spills…..CD?

I suggest this is much, much worse than Katrina.

I have stocked up on frozen shrimp for the summer too.

God, I hope horseradish production isn’t harmed or else I will have to stock up on sauce.

Note: That opened, half finished jar of shrimp cocktail sauce lost in the back of your refrigerator for years does not count! (Just don’t use the skin part!)

In China the BP executives would be shot.

Twice!

And is this Bush’s fault?

I guess you can not shoot the mentally retarded.

And do all Texans suck?

Tell us CD!

These Republicans who use Ronald Reagan and these Democrats who use JFK, RFK, Teddy, or even MLK as a shield for their selfish behavior are the snake oil salesman of the last 50 years.

False Prophets! (See Mitt in your frickin’ Waggles!)

We MUST drill but I would never vote for off shore drilling off the New England coast unless the current were favorable to sending a spill into the middle of the sea under the current enforcement system.

Checks and balances should rule!

It’s the American way!

DSD……State Opening of the new Parliament at Westminster and the Queen…

At the State Opening of the new Parliament at Westminster, Queen Elizabeth delivered the Queen’s Speech, written by the government of the day and giving a general outline of the next year’s legislative programme. It’s rather similar in function to the U.S. President’s State of the Union Address.

Among various measures proposed by the Cameron-Clegg Coalition are the scrapping of national identity cards and other authoritarian legislation, election of big-city police commissioners (seems like a terrible idea to me, while elected police authorities would be good), monetary incentives to educate deprived children (the “pupil premium”), fixed five-year parliaments and a minimum no-confidence vote of 55%.

The real pain ($10 billion in spending cuts) will come in an emergency budget on June 22nd. When the full budget is completed, there will be far more pain; the 6-billion-pound ($10 b) cut is just an appetizer, which the Tories insist should be served now, while during the election campaign, both Labour and the Liberal Democrats followed the great Liberal economist John Maynard Keynes in saying it should wait until the economy stops falling.

See Queen’s Speech: Cameron hails ‘radical’ programme

Details here:

Bill-by-bill: All the measures in the 2010 programme at-a-glance

Following tradition, the first response to the Queen’s Speech was delivered by the acting Leader of H.M. Opposition, Harriet Harman (Labour).

Watch fifty minutes of her speech and David Cameron’s rebuttal (and/or read a written summary) here:

When RAS polled this Race before the Primary and had both Candidates tied at 41 % I first thought this was a joke. Hell no folks, it isn’t. Athough I still seriously doubt Dudley is going to win this Poll bodes very well for Rossi in neighboring Washington State. Sounds like Democrats having real difficulties in their Western Base States.

It looks like the 2014 Super Bowl WILL come to COLD NY Giants stadium in New Jersey…..

Giants co-owner John Mara (b.) has to wait until 4 p.m. to start officially planning for the 2014 Super Bowl at the new Meadowlands stadium (b.), but NFL owners say the game will be there.

[ Giants co-owner John Mara (b.) has to wait until 4 p.m. to start officially planning for the 2014 Super Bowl at the new Meadowlands stadium (b.), but NFL owners say the game will be there. ]
IS that for REAL????

Yep!…… It looks like it…….

While the New York Giants actually play in New Jersey

Having the Super Bowl at Giants Stadium would be a HUGE get for the entire NYC/NJ metro area…..

and a HUGE security undertaking……

Never mind the problem of cold on playing day……

The Jets and Giants go into Tuesday’s presentations and vote to host the 2014 Super Bowl as more prohibitive favorites than the Colts were against the Jets in Super Bowl III and the undefeated Patriots were against the Giants in Super Bowl XLVII.

It will take that kind of upset by Tampa or South Florida to prevent the first cold-weather Super Bowl from being played at the New Meadowlands Stadium, which presumably will have a corporate name attached – for a mere multi-decade $500 million deal – sometime between now and kickoff.

If you want tickets, now would be a good time to take out a second mortgage. The face values of 95% of the tickets a few months ago in Miami for the Colts-Saints game were $800, $900 and $1,000. Imagine how much they will cost in four years.

The talk Monday at the NFL meetings in the hotel lobby in the posh Dallas suburb of Las Colinas was that the Vince Lombardi Trophy might need to be de-iced, but it’s going to be waiting in East Rutherford for the lucky winner of Super Bowl XLVIII in mid-February 2014. It’s considered a virtual certainty that New York will pick up the required 17 of 32 votes.

“My optimism continues to be fueled by the fact that the bid is really good,” said Giants treasurer Jon Tisch, the bid co-chairman with Jets owner Woody Johnson…..

The Political Fallout begins in Louisiana over the Oil Spill……

In these days of instant gratification and communication……Things are getting tight for Lusitania’s Politicians….

Tired of getting asked over and over when and how the Gulf Oil mess is going to get cleaned up….

They have decided to go public with their displeasure…and to position themselves AGAINST BP and the Government….

The Dog listen to Coast Guard Admiral Thad Allen* yesterday…and I have to admit…the guy sounds’ top-shelf’….

He is now the National Incident commander for the situation that is marrying BP, The Feds and The Louisana, Florida and Mississippi in a unusual  relationship….

The Fed’s have this dumped in their lap…….BP is the people doing the technical work…it’s their pipes in the Gulf’s floor, The Fed’s have veto power on their actions…but will wisely not wage into that area……The State are responsible for their property…and following Katrina……The Feds will ASK them for what they need and supply it…..

But this thing is gonna take time…

And Money…..Lots of it……

And with the media hype…..

No one wants to wait for it to be over………

But they will……

Thirty-four days after the Deepwater Horizon explosion, Louisiana officials have lost patience with BP, the Coast Guard and the Army Corps of Engineers. “I don’t have a crystal ball,” said Craig Taffaro, St. Bernard Parish president. “But if I were a betting man, I would be betting that [BP’s] plan is to let us die, then come back and do $75 million of cleanup, then close the book.”
That sum — $75 million — is the federally mandated cap for oil-spill clean-up expenditure. BP has promised to address the long-term needs of everyone affected by the spill, especially commercial fishermen. The potential expense involved is incalculable, far beyond $75 million, and many people in south Louisiana do not believe such whatever-it-takes pronouncements of full responsibility.

At a press conference Monday in Galliano, La., Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) assured the public: “If you made $50,000 last year and you can’t work this year, BP is going to write you a check for $50,000. If your business made a million dollars last year and you can’t make that million dollars this year, BP is going to make your business whole.

There is no question . . . who will pay these bills to the individuals, to businesses, to the parishes, state government and to [the] federal government. Those bills will be paid in full.”

Serious doubts remain, however, spurred in part by BP’s current legal maneuvering to have all spill-related cases litigated in Houston, instead of Louisiana.

Also in attendance at the press conference were Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, and Sens. David Vitter (R-La.), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska). The presence of these out-of-state solons is an apt indicator of growing national concern.

Jindal, disgusted with the lack of progress and organization, said, “In Terrebonne Parish, [where] oil is moving through their waters, boom and workers sat for days waiting for their orders to be deployed.” Jindal went on to state that on May 3, he asked the federal government for supplies including “3 million feet of absorbent boom and 5 million feet of hard boom.”

To date, only 815,569 feet of hard boom has arrived, and 135,320 feet of that hasn’t been deployed, he said.

In addition to such practicalities, Jindal noted a more heart-wrenching problem. “On Cat Island . . . I saw pelicans that were oiled so bad they couldn’t fly,…….

* On Thad Allen from the Washington Post.……

The BP oil spill that continues unabated in the Gulf of Mexico is more like the crisis our nation faced with Apollo 13 than with the Exxon Valdeez catastrophe. Whatever solution is finally able to stop this disaster will only come from a leader who is both creative in his thinking and trustworthy in his character. Fortunately for us, Admiral Thad Allen is such a man.

Although he will be retiring as commandant of the Coast Guard later today, Allen will remain the federal government’s point man for the BP oil spill for the foreseeable future. No one is better prepared for the job.

The Tucson native learned a great deal about the Gulf Coast when he was handpicked by Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff as the principal official tocoordinate Hurricane Katrina response after the embarrassing performance of FEMA Administrator Michael Brown.

A few years earlier, Allen had led the team that smoothly transitioned the Coast Guard into the newly formed Department of Homeland Security in 2003. Prior to that, Allen had organized the U.S. government’s sea response on September 11, 2001. His creativity and resourcefulness had led him to move large Coast Guard cutters (normally reserved for high-sea patrols) to block the mouths of the Potomac River and every major port on the Atlantic coast.

Allen not only has the right experience; he also has the right disposition. Earlier this year, I spent time with the man who has spent 38 years in the Coast Guard and lived in 47 different residences. I interviewed the commandant and researched his life as part of a major study I am conducting on America’s top leaders (the first part of which focused onthe White House Fellowship).

Simmons gives up in Connecticut…..MacMahon will run against Blumenthal for the Senate…Blumenthal releases internal poll numbers

Rob Simmons WILL drop out of the running for the Connecticut US Senate  seat as a Republican leaving Linda McMahon to run against Richard Blumenethal ….

Rob Simmons will hold a press conference for this morning in New London to announce he’s leaving the U.S. Senate race, sources said late today.
The former congressman and Vietnam War veteran lost the Republican convention’s endorsement on Friday to former World Wrestling CEO Linda McMahon.
Simmons entered the Senate race in the winter of 2009, when a politically ailing Sen. Christopher Dodd was the preumptive Democratic nominee. Throughout the spring and summer and into the fall, Simmons sat atop public opinion polls.
Then McMahon entered the race in September and began spending millions onf television ads and direct mail….

Meanwhile the Blumenthal campaign has released results from an internal poll that shows him up on McMahon by 15% points……..

Today Blumenthal’s campaign released an internal poll showing him ahead of likely Republican nominee Linda McMahon 55 percent to 40 percent, even though 91 percent of respondents had heard about the controversy regarding his statements about Vietnam. Last week the Republican-leaning pollster Rasmussen found Blumenthal ahead of McMahon 48 percent to 45 percentand leading former Representative Rob Simmons 50 percent to 39 percent. Not only could Blumenthal still win this race, he may still be favored to win. Charlie Cook declared this race a “tossup” just after the New York Times story broke.
