The CMT ( Country ) Music Awards……

Keith Urban, Miranda Lambert Among Big Winners at CMT Music Awards | Keith Urban, Miranda Lambert

[ Keith Urban and Miranda Lambert ]

Still recovering from the recentdevastating floods, Nashville got its groove back in a big way Wednesday night at the CMT Music Awards, country music’s only fan-voted award show.

Emcee Kid Rock opened the show, held at the Bridgestone Arena in downtown Nashville, by promising to punch anyone in the face who interrupted acceptance speeches with “Kanye West-isms.” That turned out not to be necessary, as country-music fans settled in for an evening of prizes, presenters and performances – including top honors for Carrie UnderwoodKeith Urban and Miranda Lambert.

The biggest awards – CMT calls them “Buckles” – of the night went to Underwood, 27, for video of the year (“Cowboy Casanova”), Urban, 42, for male video of the year (” ‘Til Summer Comes Around”) and Lambert, 26, for female video of the year (“White Liar”).

Urban gave the most poignant acceptance speech, thanking his wifeNicole Kidman – “Baby girl, I love you so much,” he said – before mentioning the people dealing with the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

“I want to send my deepest love and prayers out to all the families around the Gulf, who are going through an insane time right now,” he said. “We’ve never seen anything like this – emotions I can’t even find words for as I watch this thing happening on TV.”

Lambert, who is engaged to fellow country star Blake Shelton, won for a video that shows her running off with the best man at her wedding. “Let’s just hope that my wedding doesn’t end up like that video,” she joked.

Underwood, who also won performance of the year, was emphatically grateful to fans in her speech. “Awesome fans!” she said. “Awesome, awesome, amazing, awesome, awesome!”

All three big winners also performed on the telecast, along with artists including Toby Keith, Lady Antebellum, Tim McGrawBrad Paisley and the Zac Brown Band. Urban sang his song “Hit the Ground Runnin’ ” with John Mayer, who will join Urban for a series of duets on an upcoming episode of CMT Crossroads.

The Italian Air Force will be receiving its first two of  six Reapers (improved Predators) and support equipment,  in July after a year slip in the delivery schedule….

The Italian’s plan to have the units working in Afghanistan by the end of the year…..

The unmanned drones are unarmed….

The first two of six unarmed MQ-9 Reaper UAVs that Italy has sought to order will be delivered in July, an Italian Air Force source said June 9

A U.S. source who has knowledge of the deal added that the UAVs, plus ground stations and support equipment, could be flown by cargo aircraft directly from California to the Reapers’ base in Puglia in southern Italy.

Two more Reapers will be delivered by the end of 2010, the Italian Air Force source said. The delivery schedule has slipped. Italian officials previously said they aimed to take delivery of the first Reapers by the end of 2009.

In addition to an order for four Reapers, Italy said last October it would seek to order an extra two to beef up its UAV surveillance capability in Afghanistan.

State Employee Unions are the new bad guys?

After Halter’s loss in Arkansas….

I found this piece from a New York site….

About Indiana…..

Conservative politicians have a new enemy this election season: those evil, evil state worker unions. We see this in our own political discourse here in New York, but across the country it’s even stronger.Politico looked into the phenomenon, and…well, be thankful this isn’t Indiana.

“We have a new privileged class in America,” said Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, who rescinded state workers’ collective bargaining power on his first day in office in 2006. “We used to think of government workers as underpaid public servants. Now they are better paid than the people who pay their salaries.”

“It’s a part of a very large question the nation’s got to face,” Daniels told POLITICO in an interview. “Who serves whom here? Is the public sector—as some of us have always thought—there to serve the rest of society? Or is it the other way around?”

The current anti-public employee backlash is the result of a “perfect storm” of the housing market collapse, recession, and the subsequent budget crunch.

The New British Government will stand with the US in Afghanistan…..

After a US full court press…

The New British Administration comes out for keeping its military hand in Afghanistan….

British Prime Minister Cameron and Defense Minister Dr. Fox where on board before the election….

And recent visits by Defense Secretary Gates and others ……

Have been met with cautious approval…..

In a three-day diplomatic offensive, a trio of top Pentagon figures — Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates, General David H. Petraeus, the top commander in the region, and General Peter W. Chiarelli, vice-chief of the army staff — have sought assurances from Britain’s new coalition government that Britain will remain steadfast in its Afghan commitment.

Mr. Gates said Wednesday that the United States and its allies were under pressure to show progress in the war by the end of the year, and that American voters would not accept an open-ended “stalemate.”

“All of us, for our publics, are going to have to show by the end of the year that our strategy is on the right track and making some headway,” he said.

As Mr. Gates headed for a NATO defense ministers’ meeting in Brussels, it seemed clear the Americans had achieved the reaffirmation they had sought after Mr. Gates and General Petraeus met separately with the new prime minister, David Cameron, and in talks both men had with the new British defense minister, Dr. Liam Fox.

Dr. Fox, a Scottish physician, had aroused doubts when he traveled to Afghanistan soon after the new government took office last month and said Britain was in Afghanistan to defeat Islamic extremists there so they could not mount new attacks in Britain, not for the purpose of rebuilding what he called “a broken 13th-century country.

That appeared to question an important part of the American strategy, which has hinged on combining military pressure on the Taliban and Al Qaeda with a reconstruction program aimed at winning the backing of Afghanistan’s population. But other senior ministers in the new government said Britain remained behind the American approach, and that was the message Mr. Cameron and Dr. Fox appeared keen to transmit this week.

After Mr. Gates met Mr. Cameron on Monday, the prime minister’s office issued a statement saying that he had “reiterated UK support for US strategy,” but tellingly singled out as the strategy’s main element the $20 billion plan to build up Afghanistan’s own forces so they can take over security responsibilities and allow allied troops to leave….

The Democrat running against Senator Jim DeMint in SC is a black, unemployed veteran….Updated…….

SCPD.org

[ Greene and DeMint ]

Yea you read that right……..

Everyone is scratching their heads……

64 year old Vic Rawl,  A  former SC legislator,  lost to one Alvin Greene….

A guy with no job, and no money….

Rawl has no friends…….

DeMint’s  a GOP maverick, who has a job, and more than $3.5 million in the bank….

This one’s gonna have media all over it…Especially, since Haley is now looking like a winner….

What do you think?

A self-proclaimed jobless military veteran won South Carolina’s Democratic Senate primary and the right to challenge the incumbent, conservative Tea Party Activist Jim DeMint, in this fall’s election.

Alvin M. Greene, 32, took 59 percent of the vote, stunning his primary opponent, Vic Rawls, 64, a former judge and four-term state legislator.

“I wasn’t surprised. . . . I mean, just a little, but not much,” Greenetold Mother Jones magazine, in one of his few post-election interviews.
Greene said he scraped together the $10,400 filing fee and funds for his campaign from money he had saved while serving in the Army in South Korea. Greene said he completed his military service, a total of 13 years in the Air Force and Army, last August. He has been unemployed since.

He declined to explain why he has neglected to speak with any Democratic Party officials or to register and file reports with state and federal election officials.
“I’m not concentrating on how I was elected — it’s history,” he said.
Army officials said Wednesday morning they were checking to verify Greene’s military status.
Greene appeared to have run his campaign largely in the dark. He put out no campaign posters, ran no ads, and although he said he had campaigned across the state, was vague on the precisely where he had appeared.
“As far as I know, he never showed up at anything,” state Democratic Party Chairwoman Carol Fowler told reporters. She speculated that voters picked Greene over Rawl because his name came first on the alphabetical list of candidates.
Rawl himself expressed shock and disappointment at the election results. “I never saw him,” he said of his opponent. “I’ve still never met him.”

Note……Grenee has got Mt. Everest to climb…But stranger things have happened….

Update……

Court records show that Greene was arrested in November after allegedly showing the photos to a woman and talking about going to her room at a university dorm. He posted bond after his arrest and has yet to enter a plea or be indicted, the AP reported. The charge carries a maximum five-year prison sentence.

…………………………

The Army said Wednesday that Greene, from Manning, S.C., was discharged in August 2009 after being promoted to specialist. He served three years as a supply technician, including a tour in South Korea from June 2007 to July 2008. He last served with the 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, Kan.

………………………….

As stunned party officials in South Carolina and Washington scrambled to absorb the implications of Greene’s unusual victory, his election prospects seemed unclear — although he is certain now to attract the first serious media and political attention of his campaign.

Greene remains undaunted. He said he is excited about the campaign. “I’m looking forward to the debate this September,” he said.
