Open thread for June 10th??….
I found your entry interesting do I’ve added a Trackback to it on my weblog :)…
Trackback by World Wide News Flash | June 10, 2010 |
Since this and many other threads went up before the following post got onto the June 7th thread, I’ll repost here my instant personal take on the
Rhode Island Gubernatorial Debate
(7 – 8:30 p.m. EDT, Thursday 10 June 2010)
on WPRI-TV, Channel 12, Providence, and
http://www.wpri.com
The video stream was awful if you didn’t have high capacity memory and connections; it was overloaded by “Connect It” giving the questions as they were asked; I’ve seen this done far more efficiently by less sophisticated and less power-hungry apps. The TV broadcast also had some engineering glitches, especially sound from URI in southern RI.
I apologize to the former state legislator Victor Moffit (R) for my throwaway comparison in an earlier thread about experience: both Moffit’s Republican opponent, John Robitaille, and the Moderate Party candidate Ken Block made big points about their LACK of experience in elective public office.
Atty-Gen. Patrick Lynch (D) made a few good points but reinforced my dislike of him.
Gen. Treas. Frank Caprio (D) still makes a good impression to me, and is certainly a Democrat, but there are fiscal points where he seems too conservative.
Lincoln Chafee (Ind.), a former Republican Mayor of Warwick and U.S. Senator, still looks like the best of the bunch at this point, although I disagree with him on several policy proposals, such as imposing a 1% sales tax on currently-exempt items such as drugs and newspapers.
As I’ve said before, I wish there were a true left-wing candidate, such as State Rep. David Segal (D, Providence & E. Prov.; formerly Green Party member of Prov. City Council), who’s instead running for the Democratic nomination for Patrick Kennedy’s 1st District Congressional seat. An unambiguous left-winger would make this race less lopsided.

James B, Texas Republicans had their state convention unity gathering today in Dallas at the Dallas Convention Center where KBH officially endorsed Governor Rick Perry (R)’s reelection campaign to a 3rd full term this morning and while Perry accepted the GOP nomination for the governorship in his acceptance speech, he ripped into former Houston Mayor Bill White (D) today which fired up the conservative base.
State House Speaker Joe Straus (R-San Antonio) says TX Republicans are ENERGIZED and excited about turning out in November.
My prediction still stands: Perry-56; White-44.
A little more than 4 months out….
Perry looks good…
We’ll see….
This is getting rather too much like some North American elections of the 21st century:
London Assembly investigates election day polling
Page last updated at 14:11 GMT, Thursday, 10 June 2010 15:11 UK
(BBC News) The London Assembly will investigate how the polling for general and council elections was conducted in May.
The review comes after hundreds of Londoners were unable to vote and left queuing as polling booths closed.
About 300 people were turned away in Lewisham and another 150 were unable to vote in Hackney. Long queues were also seen in Vauxhall and Brockley.
The review will look at the issues of overcrowding and as well as allegations of electoral fraud.
‘Grave concerns’
The Metropolitan Police are investigating 28 allegations of postal vote fraud and electoral irregularities in 12 boroughs – Tower Hamlets, Lambeth, Barking and Dagenham, Westminster, Enfield, Hounslow, Haringey, Ealing, Brent, Bexleyheath, Camden, Redbridge.
Tower Hamlets Council said it had alerted the police about 10 allegations relating to postal fraud and removed 141 people from the electoral register.
The inquiry will identify the problems and action needed to tackle the issues before the Greater London Authority elections in 2012…

North Korea said today that they can turn South Korea into a “Sea Of Flames”
Those peace lovers must not have heard of Democartic Senatorial Candidate Alvin Greenes plan to unite the two Koreas into one country
He and Leal talked about this the other night
Leal is a complete nut. But as crazy as his posts are about Obama causing the oil spill they aren’t too far off the mark of many Republicans. Just look at Rick Perry calling it an “act of God”. Yeah Rick, on what day did God create the oil derrick? I don’t recall that in my bible.
And Rush Limbaugh saying the Sierra Club should pay for the oil spill rather than BP since he thinks “environmentalist wackos” caused the disaster. Of course he also stated that the oil is as natural as the ocean water and should just be left alone. I’ve got a better idea. Dump it onto his beachfront property in FL–all of it! We’ll see how “natural” he thinks it is then.
And Rush wants to run them out of business…..
I’m out for awhile….

about Flash:
Adobe fixes ‘critical’ Flash flaw
BBC News (Technology)
Page last updated at 08:56 GMT, Friday, 11 June 2010 09:56 UK
¶ Adobe’s Flash software has become a favourite among hi-tech criminals
Adobe has fixed a “critical” security flaw that had the potential to allow hackers to take control of affected computer systems.
The bug was first spotted in early June week following a small number of targeted attacks.
The security update is one in a bumper update package that fixes a total of 32 documented vulnerabilities.
Adobe’s Flash and Reader software have emerged as prime targets for hi-tech criminals in the past year.
Users running Windows, Macintosh or Linux were all thought to be vulnerable to attack.
Security firm Websense said the flaw was being exploited via e-mails that prompted recipients to open booby-trapped websites seeded with malware.
Users visiting the websites would have their computers infected with trojans and other malicious programs that opened a backdoor into the machine.
Adobe urged users to apply the update as soon as possible.
Adobe said it would release an update at the end of June for its Reader and Acrobat programs which addresses a similar bug that makes it possible to booby-trap PDFs.
Adobe is reportedly considering patching its applications more frequently after a quarterly update cycle for its Acrobat and Reader programmes last year.
In 2009, Adobe announced an aggressive programme to beef up security after hackers increasingly focused on finding holes in its products.
‘Huge release’
The security update came in the release of version 10.1 of the Flash player.
“Don’t let the version number fool you! Flash Player 10.1 is more than a ‘dot upgrade’,” said Paul Betlem of Adobe’s Flash Player engineering team.
Mr Betlem said the update was a “monumental undertaking” that made significant changes to the architecture of the software.
Adobe estimates that more than 95% of computers worldwide have Flash Player installed. Many sites use it to show off multimedia content such as videos and games.
Wired called the latest release “significant” and said the underlying code has been largely re-written to address the platform’s key shortcomings, most notably battery problems and security issues….

I disabled that annoying Adobe Updater (anyone know how to do the same for the Apple Updater ?) because its scans would slow my startups (reboots) to a crawl for non-urgent reasons, but apparently Flash 10.1 is something we all need ASAP. I’ll check the specific update, but you can always go to http://www.adobe.com
Weren’t things so much easier when Flash was still owned by Macromedia?

Saudi Arabia gives Israel clear skies to attack Iranian nuclear sites
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/middle_east/article7148555.ece
http://cgi.ebay.com/Israeli-Gas-Mask-/170495101802?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27b24ccb6a
The four main targets for any raid on Iran would be the uranium enrichment facilities at Natanz and Qom, the gas storage development at Isfahan and the heavy-water reactor at Arak. Secondary targets include the lightwater reactor at Bushehr, which could produce weapons-grade plutonium when complete.
The targets lie as far as 1,400 miles (2,250km) from Israel; the outer limits of their bombers’ range, even with aerial refuelling. An open corridor across northern Saudi Arabia would significantly shorten the distance. An airstrike would involve multiple waves of bombers, possibly crossing Jordan, northern Saudi Arabia and Iraq. Aircraft attacking Bushehr, on the Gulf coast, could swing beneath Kuwait to strike from the southwest.
The sign is the flaming sword in the sky

Mossad Head: Ahmadinejad Good for Israel
http://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2009/06/mossad-head-ahmadinejad-good-for-israel/19531/
My PREPARED speech for Benjamin Nentanyu …
People of Israel
We are ready and prepared to strike Iran
We do so out of hope of avoiding destruction down the road
We ask the nations of Russia, Germany, and France to stand down
We remind people WE are attacking inanimate objects and therefore are not GOING to war
but striving for Peace
Shalom people of Israel
Ok…..
My comment…
This story is a leaked warning to Iran…
It will not work…
The Iranians know the Israeli capabilities….
The facilities are deep in the ground…
The only bombs that do the right job belong to the US…
I see no problem with a Lend-Lease deal…
The overall problem is even if the Israeli’s go…
The Iranians will continue….
If you are going to go…
You don’t advertise……
My prepared RESPONSE by Ahmadinejad
Israel has decided to violate Iran’s sovereignty
We view the attack as a clear violation of Iran’s RIGHT to power
WE will respond with appropriate measures for a destruction of Iran’s property
If you read the last paragraph you understand that Israel AND the US aren’t the only ones worried about Iranian nukes…..
If you are going to go…
You don’t advertise……\
—————————-
Shenanigans
If you feel JUST & RIGHTEOUS you give advance warning
That is stupid……
But so was the way the Gaza ship raid went down and the last ‘wet’ job….
Why is it stupid
people do things sneakily when they feel shame and are trying to hide their actions
The IRA always gave advance warnings when they attacks buildings
out of pride and the ALLOWANCE for people to leave the buildings
And if the Iranians shoot down attacking aircraft after being warned……..is that smart ?
George W Bush(Dave) always gave notice whether through USA TODAY or through the airwaves when he was planning an attack
and THAT was stupid…….
And if the Iranians shoot down attacking aircraft after being warned……..is that smart ?
——————
I was suspected by doctors as being borderline retarded at age 2
why would you ask ME
I withdraw the question….
even the SIMPLE ability to raise my head was delayed
The facilities are deep in the ground…
———————————
Perhaps even in Neighborhoods
like in the USA .. he .. he he
and THAT was stupid…….
————-
I would call it noble
George W Bush always started noble, but then the mission changed
Iraq- remove Saddam Hussein from power( mission accomplished) YET we are still there
Afghanistan- capture Osama bin laden( We dont even have a FIRM LOCK on his whereabouts)
Okay…. you are drifting again…..
I’m doing some posts….
James B, NBA Finals 2010 update: Boston leads 3-2 with their amazing Game 5 win at the TD Garden in Boston, MA over the defending champion LA Lakers, 92-86 in a wild game as Kobe Bryant’s 38 points wasn’t enough to pull out the win.
Game 6 is Tuesday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and there’s a possibility the Celtics could dethrone Phil Jackson at his own home court.
All in a tizzy eh Leal?
You ARE a LIAR
And a two bit one
Calling the President Of the United States
A “terrorist”
A “Nazi”
Claiming to have discussed all sorts of issues with this Greene goof
Who can barely communicate and admitted he had never heard of TARP
James is a nice guy and puts up with your drivel
Me?
I KNOW what you are
Like I said before, James has the patience of Job to put up with the lunatic rantings of TPL and the cry baby antics of Daniel G.
Speaking of fabrications, it appears Rand Paul isn’t certified by the state board of opthamologists like he claims he is on his campaign website. When questioned about it his response was “what does this have to do with the election?”.
Um, if being board certified has nothing to do with the election why are you claiming it as a credential on your campaign website–falsely?
Paul’s credibility is melting like a snowball in June!
Jack, do you think Scott will win the runoff in the SC-01 ?
Yes
Back to the Greene matter
Today Vic Rawl filed a formal protest which means the Democratic State Committee will hold a hearing
In my view Rawl doesnt believe that he can overturn the result but is tryinbg to smoke out where Greene got the ten grand to run from
Theres an interesting sidenote to all this that I havent seen mentioned
Most people havent paid attention but Jim Demint actually had a primary opponent
Her name was Susan gaddy a Charleston Lawyer
Like Greene she did no campaigning
Republicans loudly denounced her candidacy noting she had supported Obama and was considered a Democrat
Im wondering if some enterprising Republican decided to similarly screw with the Democrats with the Greene caper?
Jack, I’m going to predict the SC Democratic Party will have their way and FORCE Greene out in way for Rawl.
DeMint wins anyway going away BIG with 72 percent.
on what basis CD?
presenting a good check that was cashed?
you’re going with shades of Burris here…
the guy got the votes…….
100,000 more than Rawl….
if they do what you’re saying…why have elections?
of course!
catch everyone later
James B, Greene is a criminal who tried to entice a female student into having sex with her.
the SC Democratic Party is bordering on embarrassing themselves once again since they’re already in the political toilet since 2002.
They’ve lost the governorship and likely won’t be getting it back.
They’ve lost both houses of the SC Legislature since the 1990s during Carroll Campbell’s tenure as governor.
They’ve also lost the majority of their congressional delegation including both Senate seats which I do not see the SC Dems winning ever again unless the demographics change.
While The Dog mournhs for poor ol Bp
The Brits
BP Shareholders
Louisiana oil workers
And others
The other 99% of us have other “concerns”
According to Gallup
Over 70% of Americans feel the President is not being tough enough on BP
Count me in that group
Obama should hit them harder where these types REALLY care
Their pocketbooks
Higher taxes(with a criminal prohibition against them “passing” on their costs to consumers)
More and heavier “regulations” on their “investing” and activities
And insisting that Holder start bringing CRIMINAL charges(who gives a damn if they stick)
These bastards deserve EVERYTHING that can be thrown at them
OK Dog
Lets have one of those
“Lets move on” editorials!
DRILL DRILL DRILL!!!
Lets see how it plays….
I’ll have more after Obama wraps his speech…..
Jack, the Alabama GOP is facing a July 13th runoff between former State Senator Bradley Byrne (R-Fairhope) and State Rep. Robert Bentley (R-Tuscaloosa) in which outgoing Alabama State Attorney General Troy King (R) has confirmed the runoff set for July 13th will come down to Byrne and Bentley as third-place finisher Tim James (R)’s attempts for a recount fell short.
jack MY ELDER
Your a loser
always have been
always will
Your lil antic is OLD
and your not even a Democrat
So cut the crap JACK
Ah Cmon Leal
Tell us all your “sources” for calling President Obama a “terrorist” you lying sack of(blank so as not to offend james)
Cmon Leal tell us all about your “sources” for calling the President a Nazi you damn nut
You are what you are Leal
A two bit LIAR
I don’t think Ireland will soon hold elections to match the UK’s, but the Czech elections were followed by Slovak ones this weekend, and the Dutch ones by Belgian ones.
In Belgium, the big gains were by a new Flemish (Dutch-speaking) party. Most of Belgium’s parties (Socialists, Liberals, Christian Democrats, etc.) are split into a Flemish and Walloon (French-speaking) wing, so coalitions take a long time to build and are vulnerable (like the most recent one) to all kinds of pressures.
Here’s the English-language report, by Iain MacIntyre, from Radio Netherlands Worldwide:
The Flemish separatist NVA has emerged as the largest party in the general election in Belgium. The New Flemish Alliance took 17.4 percent of the vote, good for 27 of the 150 seats in the Belgian parliament – an increase of 19 seats.
In second place was the Francophone Socialist Party (PS) which won 26 seats. Pretty much all the other parties lost ground, particularly the Christian Democrat and Liberal parties which formed the previous coalition government.
United front
NVA leader Bart De Wever is calling for all the Flemish parties to work together. “If I have to do it alone, I’m doomed to fail” he said. Flemish political analyst Carl Devos says De Wever wants to develop a joint standpoint before approaching the Francophone parties.
Despite its ties with the PS, the Flemish socialist party (sp.a) with 13 seats says it will be “a constructive partner”. The Christian Democrat CD&V expressed doubts that a united front would help.
Although the NVA seeks an independent Flemish state in the long term, this does not mean the end of Belgium or even the start of devolution in anything like the near future. The complications of Belgium’s electoral system, with separate voting in the Flemish, Dutch-speaking region and in the Walloon, French-speaking region plus bilingual Brussels, means that at least four parties (two from each region) are normally needed to form a coalition….

Here’s the slightly more-interpretive BBC report:

Jack, how about somebody ask James B to remove Leal from this site forever ?
I betcha Leal is the main reason why Politics 1 was shut down because Ron got tired of his act.
No need to remove him if people would just stop reacting (easier if you don’t read many of his posts to begin with).
He’s ok when he’s lucid……

Obama has implemented nationalization
end of discussion
“The president has demonstrated that he has a default mechanism in him that breaks down the side of race — on the side that favors the black person.”
— Rep. Steve King (R-IA), quoted by The Hill, on President Obama’s attitude towards race.
Man I feel sorry for sane people in his Iowa district. It appears their representative in Congress is trying to emulate Glenn Beck!
I have decided to suspend my plans to work on the Obama 2012 INTERNET campaign
I love Jenna too much to help such a awful leader
The internet campaign will sit vacate like an empty box
And my question to King is the same as it is to Beck. Name one thing–just one–that Obama has done that shows he is more favorable to black Americans than white ones.
Of course they can’t. But there are ratings and votes to be had by stirring the fears of bitter old white folk.
Racism has not gone away just because we have a black president…..
Folks, if White loses to Perry here in my homestate’s gubernatorial contest in TX in November (as expected), the TX Dems could pick this dude in 2014:
Ok Guys…… Daniel’s gonna be away for few weeks….
Gonna be a quiet day for the Dog….
Working on upgrading the site….Ugh!
And other stuff…..
Will try to get a few posts in a few….
James B, the Big 12 stays intact with Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, OU, Oklahoma St., rejecting invites from the Pac-10 to maintain the status quo alongside Baylor, Kansas, Kansas St., Iowa St., and Mizzou.
I prefer the Big 12 get Univ. of Houston and SMU to keep the conference at 12, but it’s unlikely.
Horrible part about the Big 12 going to 10 members is no conference championship game which SUCKS.
It’s it about the BCS?
