Alvin Greene Update for June 11…….

First of all…..

The $10,000 question……

Where did he get the money to file?

He IS unemployed right?

Second….

What’s the story with the criminal charges?

Oh, Yea….So far…..

Alvin Greene says he’s in……

State Democratic officials have urged Mr. Greene to quit the contest against Senator Jim DeMint, a Republican, and top lawmakers, including Representative James E. Clyburn, began suggesting on Thursday that Mr. Greene was a “plant.”

Mr. Clyburn, the House Democratic majority whip, called for a federal investigation because of reports that Mr. Greene, who told television reporters and others that he is unemployed, somehow paid the more than $10,000 filing fee to run for the Senate.

“There were some real shenanigans going on in the South Carolina primary,” Mr. Clyburn said on a radio show. “I don’t know if he was a Republican plant; he was someone’s plant.”

The Associated Press reported that Mr. Greene had been charged with a felony in a case involving showing pornographic images to a college student. Mr. Greene, 32, was largely silent about that as more and more news media tried to contact him. (In interviews on Thursday, he would not comment on the charge, saying he was innocent until proved guilty.) He said he would not step down.

Mr. Greene was asked in numerous television interviews on Thursday about the cash he used to pay the filing fee, especially given the fact that he is receiving unemployment benefits and is represented in criminal court by a public defender.

He said it was his own money.

Carly Fiorina starts off with a silly mistake……

[ Ms. Fiorina says she was only recounting a friend’s comments about her political opponent, Ms. Boxer. ]

Fiorina made a comment about Califorina Senator Barbara Boxer’s hair….

Not a big deal….

But the media loves ‘open mike’ ramblings…..

And love reporting ‘open mike’ ramblings…..

And they become issues……

Like it …or…not….

In one of those classic campaign gaffes,Carly Fiorina, the Republican nominee for the Senate seat held by Barbara Boxer, the California Democrat, was caught mocking Ms. Boxer’s hair into an open microphone on Wednesday. She also had a few tough words about the newly minted Republican candidate for governor and her B.F.F.-on-the-stump,Meg Whitman.

Ms. Fiorina’s comments were, all told, really no more incendiary than a bit of warm pasta salad — who hasn’t indulged in some off-the-record chitchat about the grooming habits of others now and then? But they presented her with a political problem that could haunt her throughout the campaign.

They both inform and confirm the image from her days as chief executive at Hewlett-Packard that she is tart and unpleasant. And they open the entire campaign to perceptions, however tired or unfair, that women can be dragged down the road of pettiness, perceptions that detract from the serious and pressing issues of the day.

“The fact is that some voters, including many women, find this interesting and no doubt form their character judgments on such matters,” said Bruce E. Cain, a professor of political science at the University of California, Berkeley.

“Of course, bad or old-fashioned hair can become a metaphor for being out of step and in need of change,” he added. “I would like to believe that people use the trivial to express their thoughts about what matters, rather than believe that the trivial matters. That said, it is not a good way to start a woman-on-woman race by playing into negative stereotypes about female culture.”

While the comments may be viewed through the prism of sex, they more likely mark Ms. Fiorina as a novice more than anything else. “I think this is a mistake of a rookie candidate who doesn’t know when to keep her mouth shut,” said Garry South, a Democratic strategist in Santa Monica. “If a man had made the comment, it would have been viewed as sexist. When a woman says it, it would be viewed as catty.”

Senator Boxer saw an opening, and took it. “Let her talk about hair; we’re talking about jobs,” said Rose Kapolczynski, her campaign manager.

Video of the episode shows Ms. Fiorina waiting to be interviewed by a Sacramento television station, scrolling through her BlackBerry and asking a staff member why Ms. Whitman would want to appear on Sean Hannity’s show on Fox News, which she deemed too tough an interview.

Then, after commentary on the passion for hamburgers shared by her husband and male staff members, Ms. Fiorina somehow pivoted to the locks of her Democratic opponent.

[ Barbara Boxer, whose hair got an unfavorable review from her opponent, Carly Fiorina. ]

“Laura saw Barbara Boxer briefly on television this morning and said what everyone says, ‘God, what is that hair?’ Soooooooo yesterday,” Ms. Fiorina said, scrolling, scrolling.

There is a tape from the boat that the Israeli's raided……It raises questions….

The woman who shot the tape smuggled out her memory card in her underwear…

She has about an hour on the tape…..

She makes some very interesting observations that magnify the Dogs view that the operation was

not a very good..or popular one….

On both sides…

First of all she seems to confirm that Israeli Special Operators used NON-LETHAL weapons when they first arrived on the ship…..

Second she implies that the Special Operators seem to be very uncomfortable on the op….

By that she seems to imply that the operators didn’t want to be on the mission….

Where they ordered to do something they had problems with?

Was this discpline…or policy related?

Something is not right with the whole thing…from outside  AND INSIDE…..

Iara Lee, a Brazilian-American filmmaker and activist who was shooting a documentary on the flotilla of ships that was intercepted last week on its way to Gaza, has posted one hour of unedited video online that shows the early stages of the Israeli commando raid.

Since the camera was on a lower deck of the ship, it also shows but does not give a clear view of the violent confrontation and shootings that took place on the top deck of the ship, after Israeli commandos boarded from a helicopter and met with resistance from passengers on board. But the video, and accompanying audio, will help give a better sense of the timeline of the raid. It also shows clearly the area of the ship where wounded and dying passengers — and soldiers — were brought for medical treatment.

At a news conference at the United Nations on Thursday, where the video was screened for members of the media, Ms. Lee explained that she managed to smuggle out the video by hiding the card. She added that another video card she tried to hide was discovered and confiscated by Israeli authorities, along with her video equipment.

Ms. Lee also said that her success at smuggling the video out may have been partly because, in her view, the Israeli soldiers who were given the task of searching the detainees from the flotilla of ships were “young people who didn’t seem to want to be there.” She pointed out that some of the other journalists on board the ship had also managed to smuggle out cards with photographs and a much smaller amount of video.

The video Ms. Lee’s cameraman shot was recorded in high definition, although it was initially uploaded to YouTube in a low-resolution form in order to make it available to the public. This 15-minute edit of the material was also made available on Vimeo in a higher-quality version:

TalkandPolitcs…..Bloomberg wants to run…..The Dog adds why he won't make it…..

From Talkandpolitcs…..

This from a top NY Political Consultant in Team Bloomberg. If he sees an “opening”, Mayor Michael Bloomberg may decide to run for President in 2012.

As for funding – Bloomberg could “easily spend $1 billion” on an independent campaign.

Source.

Comment from the Dog…..

I saw this story….

I was going to do a post….But I didn’t…

The main reason I didn’t was because I thought this whole story was ludicrous…

Mike Bloomberg spent $130 million to win the New York City job by about 3% points….

Lets check somethings out….

He’s Jewish….

He’s very rich…

And he’s anti guns……

And he’s an ex-Democrat, who dances with the GOP ….but claims he’s a Independent….

Three of the four things I have listed will mean that he will never be the GOP  or Democratic nominee for President of the United States…

We have a black President…..We’ve never got close to having a Jewish one

Being rich gets him a place at the table…..That’s all..

Being anti-gun means he won’t win in the South and West…..

Independents don’t get very far running for President in this country even if they have a shitload of money….

This is an ego story…

The guy ran it out in New York City buying a third term….

There are just too many people for him to make it outside New York….

Mike……. do your time as Mayor and enjoy it……

BP is a Strong stock buy in some places…….The Company WILL survive…..It has to…..

The number crunchers have figured out what the Dog indistinctly has known since the beginning of this thing…

In the end…

A couple of years from now….

BP

Is going to be fine….

And people are going make money on the stock when it comes back…..and it will…

I mean that….

By early summer the oil leak will be capped…

Money will be dispersed…

Some BP people may have serious legal problems….

But the company WILL survive this…

As bad as things are for the American Gulf coast states……

The Brits are not gonna stand by while their American cousins wipe out their equity in their premier oil company…A lot of Brits have their life savings in that stock….

The new government will not stand for the economic shock of the company going out of business giving all its money to the American’s in the South….

The Gulf of Mexico will survive this…

The people of the Gulf states will suffer a LOT…….

But…..Oil companies will still be taking oil out of the ground in the Gulf of Mexico

Mark the Dogs words…

I’m right on this…..

J.P. Morgan Chase analyst Fred Lucas is going where few analysts dare to go.

In a research note this morning, following a 16% drop in BP’s share price on Wednesday, Lucas declares “Latest technical rout reveals unprecedented value” in the oil giant’s battered shares.

Lucas has a “buy” rating on BP and presents a back-of-the-envelope case for why the company’s $84 billion loss in market value is overblown by a factor of more than 2X. That’s right–Lucas is arguing that BP shares have sold off twice as much as they should have since the spill.

Here are some of Lucas’s calculations, which he admits are based on rough estimates.

Clean up costs: A total of $5 billion, based on a rate of spending $60 million a day. This is about double the $28 million BP has said it has spent daily in the past 51 days. But it also assumes that the clean up will take about 120 days, which seems rosy given that it took several years to clean up the oil spilled from the Exxon Valdez in 1989. Only a few years ago, scientists were still finding oil from the spill along the Alaskan coast.

Federal Fines: While it’s difficult to know for sure the exact amount of oil leaking into the Gulf, Lucas assumes a worse-case scenario of about 1.9 million barrels in total. He also assumes that BP can cap the leak by July 4th. This implies a fine of $2.1 billion based on the Clean Water Act penalties of $1,100 a barrel. If BP is found to be grossly negligent, the fine could rise to $8.1 billion, at a per-barrel penalty of $4,300. This also doesn’t take into consideration fines from the many Gulf states affected by the spill.

Litigation Costs: Lawsuits will likely come from the tourism and fishing industries. According to Lucas, total annual revenue from tourism from the affected states is Alabama ($3 billion) Louisiana ($9 billion) Mississippi ($2 billion) and Florida ($57 billion). Fishery revenue from the affected states is Alabama ($1 billion) Louisiana ($3 billion) Mississippi ($0 billion) and Florida ($5 billion). Lucas says if these industries lose half that revenue in 2010 and 2011, then the total cost to BP would be $16 billion.

All told, his estimated cost is $29 billion

Loss in market value since the spill is $84 billion.

Turkey is still Okay with the West…..

ERDOGAN

[ Recep Tayyip Erdogan addresses the Turkish-Arab forum in Istanbul on Thursday. ]

They can take a breath in the EU and Washington…….

The Turks have calmed down…..

After the Israeli caper……

But Turkey will not vote for further sanctions against Iran…..

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday dismissed as propaganda suggestions that Turkey’s government was abandoning its traditional Western alliances to turn East.

Addressing the Turkish-Arab Economic Forum in Istanbul, Mr. Erdogan said his government remained committed to taking Turkey into the European Union, but accused the EU of dragging its feet in membership negotiations, according to a translation of his speech by Anadolu Ajansi, the Turkish state news agency.

Mr. Erdogan also said Turkey voted on Wednesday against further sanctions on Iran at the United Nations Security Council because it “did not want to be part of a mistake……..

Note….Someone here mentioned the old Turkish-Ottermna Empire…….That was a long time agao…The Turks alternately fought…and allied itself and parts of its country with the Russians….

Turkey at its height in power in the 1500’s conquered most of modern-day Iran……..And Iran and Turkey are modern Muslim countries adjoining each other in the Middle East…..

Turkey has long had a strong relationship with Europe and was a founding memeber of the UN in 1945.
