Fla.’s Kendrick Meek one of few Democrats to get public appearance from Al Gore…..But more are coming

Al Gore ‘s helping Kendrick Meek in Florida….

Gore will go on to fundraise  for other Democrats in Ohio, Massachusetts, Colorado and New Jersey

Former vice president Al Gore this week returned to the state that sealed his political fate 10 years ago to try to breathe new life intoDemocratic Rep. Kendrick Meek’s struggling bid for Florida’s open Senate seat.

Gore delivered a full-throated populist assault on Republican economic and environmental policies at a raucous rally inside a labor union hall here late Thursday afternoon. But Democrats hoping the 2000 presidential nominee might carry that message to rally the party faithful in other battleground states might be out of luck.

This was only Gore’s second public political appearance this year; in July, he addressed the TennesseeDemocratic Party‘s Jackson Day event in his home town of Nashville. Gore is planning to headline private fundraisers for a handful of candidates, a source close to Gore said, but has not scheduled any other public rallies, though he might still add such get-out-the-vote events to his calendar.

Gore, who joined Meek at a private campaign fundraiser here on Thursday evening, has already raised money forSen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and Rep. Jim Moran (D-Va.). Later this month, the source said, he is scheduled to attend fundraisers for Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick (D), Rep. Betsy Markey (D-Colo.), Rep. Rush Holt (D-N.J.) and Ohio Democratic Senate candidate Lee Fisher. Gore also will travel to New York to address a gala event for state Senate Democrats……More
