While the media has turned to the Democrats coming back….This Gallup poll says…’Maybe’…..

Republicans have a significant lead over Democrats among likely voters in Gallup’s generic ballot poll released Monday.

The figures show a much greater lead for Republicans among likely voters than registered voters, and suggest the party is poised to make large gains in the midterm elections.

Rahm Emanuel Works Chicago’s Tribes on Day One of ‘Listening Tour’…..

One day you’re listening to the America and the World’s troubles…the next week it’s Chicago’s….

Chicago’s tribal politics break along ethnic, racial, religious, economic, geographic and even sexual-orientation lines, and mayoral hopeful Rahm Emanuel spent his first day of campaigning in the city on Monday targeting these various groups as he kicked off what he has termed his “listening tour.”

At “L” stops, stores and community centers, mobbed by local and national reporters, Emanuel started his day at 7:30 a.m., hitting pockets of African-Americans, Mexican-Americans, Jews, gays, white ethnics, Indian-Americans, Pakistani-Americans, Irish-Americans — groups he’ll need to survive the Feb. 22 primary and win the April 5 general election.

Emanuel quit his White House chief of staff job on Friday, after President Barack Obama gave him a grand East Room send-off, and arrived back in Chicago on Sunday. He posted his announcement video on his new website and hit the streets on Monday and will continue his “Tell it Like it Is” tour on Tuesday……..More.

California to block access to welfare cards from casinos and cruise ships…..

Why do I find this NOT hard to believe?

The Schwarzenegger administration is cutting off use of state-issued welfare debit cards at casinos across the country and on cruise ships, following a Times report that the aid cards have been used to spend or withdraw millions of dollars in benefits at popular vacation spots.

More than $69 million meant to help the needy pay their rent and clothe their children was accessed in 49 other states, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Guam between January 2007 and May 2010, according to data from the California Department of Social Services.

Department Director John Wagner instructed the vendor that administers the debit card program to make the changes Monday afternoon, in response to a story that ran in The Times’ Monday edition. The move is part of the Schwarzenegger administration’s commitment to “rooting out waste, fraud and abuse in these programs” and to ensuring “these resources are going to the people they are intended for,” Wagner said.

More than $11 million was spent or withdrawn in Las Vegas, about $1 million of that at shops and casino hotels on or within a block or two of the famous strip. The data show $8,968 accessed at the Tropicana and $7,995 at the Venetian and its Grand Canal Shoppes…….More….
