Good ole Mitt Romney….
Get’s off the plane and promptly inserts foot in mouth!
‘Only he can run an Olympics?”
He’s a great prospect for the President of the USA!
hosted2.ap.org….Romney stepping out of 10 Downing Street…The PM’s house
Mitt Romney jetted across the Atlantic this week, partly to escape the stature-diminishing grind of the daily campaign — but he arrived to find an adversary every bit as ferocious as President Barack Obama’s Chicago crew: the British press.
Romney’s critique of this country’s preparations for the Olympic Games caused a firestorm in the London-based media Thursday, putting the Republican presidential hopeful on damage-control duty and ensuring that a trip meant to remind American voters about his leadership of the 2002 Winter Olympics and his diplomatic bona fides began on a sour note.
By the evening here, Romney had become part of a rallying cry, meant to fire up proud Britons.
“There’s a guy called Mitt Romney who wants to know whether we are ready!” London Mayor Boris Johnson bellowed to a crowd in Hyde Park. “Are we ready? Yes we are!”
It wasn’t supposed to go like this.
After a day spent gripping and grinning with Great Britain’s past and present political elite, Romney was to have emerged from 10 Downing Street looking every bit the president-in-waiting.
But even before he began taking questions from reporters, the candidate knew he had to douse water on Fleet Street’s flames.
“I applaud the work the organizers did in bringing the Olympic experience right into the heart of London,” Romney said in his prepared remarks.
That was a touch more soothing to the Great British ego than what led to the trans-Atlantic flap.
There was little suspense in tonight’s elections. Only in Delaware, where Newt Gingrich camped out in recent days and collected endorsements from top local officials, was Romney at any risk of losing. Even a Gingrich victory there would have been unlikely to complicate Romney’s glide to the Republican convention in Tampa. (Also on POLITICO: GOP delegate tracker) But with nearly all of the vote reported, Romney was crushing Gingrich in Delaware by a 30-percentage-point margin. Speaking to supporters in Manchester, N.H., Romney declared a formal end to the primary season and predicted: “Together, we are going to win on Nov. 6.” “After 43 primaries and caucuses, many long days and more than a few long nights, I can say with confidence and gratitude that you have given me a great honor and solemn responsibility,” he said, framing the general election as a test of the country’s economic resilience. Said Romney: “The last few years have been the best that Barack Obama can do. But it’s not the best America can do.” Romney has not yet secured enough delegates to clinch the GOP nomination officially, but he has already been treated by his party as its presumptive nominee for two weeks, since Rick Santorum ended his White House bid earlier this month. Here’s one guess …..
Could you call it a suggestion for the President’s handlers?…
Kevin Drum: “My guess: the flip-flopper charge probably won’t get much traction. It’s mostly a problem for conservatives, who don’t fully trust that Romney is one of them, but by the time summer rolls around they’re going to be his most fire-breathing supporters. They’ll have long since decided to forgive and forget, and independents won’t care that much in the first place as long as Romney seems halfway reasonable in his current incarnation. It’s possible that Obama can do both — Romney is a flip-flopper and a right-wing nutcase! — but if he has to choose, my guess is that he should forget about the flip-flopping and simply do everything he can to force Romney into the wingnut conservative camp. That’ll be his big weakness when Labor Day rolls around.”

Not a bad deal on missing training camp, eh?
The Players get to vote on the agreement shortly…
Owners, meeting in Atlanta, in a 31-0 vote agreed to end the current lockout. Team facilities could be open by Saturday, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said, if players approve the deal.
Player representatives scheduled an 8 p.m. conference call in which they were expected to discuss the proposal and the recertification of the NFL Players Association, which dissolved after the lockout began in March.
The proposed collective-bargaining agreement would last through the 2020 season.
The proposed agreement includes a new rookie compensation system, a salary cap of $142.4 million per club in 2011 and additional retirement benefits, according to the NFL.
“I do feel good” about the prospects of resolving the situation, Falcons player representative Coy Wire told CNN.
The first preseason game — the annual Pro Football Hall of Fame Game, between the Chicago Bears and St. Louis Rams — has been canceled because of the delay in opening camps, Goodell said. It had been scheduled for August 7.
The regular season is set to open on September 8……
More….. from CNN….
As I begin to read in for the Dog a little while ago something strikes me….
The theatre in the round that titled the ‘Debt Ceiling/Budget Talks’ is all over the place…..
First there’s this from Politicalwire…….
First Read: “With the clock ticking until the Aug. 2 deadline, there are essentially three tracks to resolve the debt-ceiling standoff. One track is McConnell-Reid, the ongoing negotiations between the Senate Majority Leader and Senate Minority Leader to pass a ‘failsafe’ debt ceiling increase without majorities of Congress having to approve it, and it’s losing a lot of steam (right now). The second track is the talks between President Obama and House Republicans John Boehner and Eric Cantor, as they try to revive a ‘grand bargain’ — and it’s a track that is a LOT more active than folks realize. And the third track is a second grand-bargain-style deal — this one by the Gang of Six in the Senate.”
One huge problem: “There is currently no plan out there that could get through the House. And that’s raised chatter on Capitol Hill that the only way to convince enough House Republicans to support ANY track is for the Dow Jones to collapse, a la what happened with TARP in 2008.”
Then there is this from CNN….
Of course the Money people over at Wall Street are smart enough to know that it looks like the August 2nd deadline isn’t gonna be much of a deadline (Obama is not gonna what I think he should do which is STOP writting Federal checks ) so they have set in motion this action mentioned in the New York Times….
By LOUISE STORY and JULIE CRESWELL
Lawmakers in Washington are racing to reach a deal to save the country from defaulting on its debt, but financial players are devising doomsday plans in case the clock runs out……
Like I said in the tittle to this post….
Things are fluid…
So fluid that NOBODY seems to saying what the final outcome will be….
Certainly not the Speaker of the House John Boehner who seems to be a ally fight with his Majority Leader…
Cantor and his ‘no negotiating group’ is either amenable to something…..
Nothing that doesn’t cut the balls out of the budget right now and sticks it to the Democrats and hurts Obama….
Quit frankly only the inside players know the score…
The media is just guessing ….
Probably a real good idea….
Though I think going on a talk program with his wife would be better..
He needs some breathing room…
And the rehab treatment thing plays good….And he’s gotta learn to be a one woman man…
A couple of weeks off for the rest of the stuff to come out might be a good idea also….
The media is in a feeding frenzy…..
The guy IS taking a beating…..
And there probably is more out there…
It will give him some face time with his wife also…..
Rep Anthony Weiner (D-NY) will leave Congress temporarily to tend to his personal life, a spokeswoman for the Congressman, Risa Heller told TPM on Saturday. The move falls short of a resignation, which Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and a group of top Democratic officials publicly demanded earlier the same day.
“Congressman Weiner departed this morning to seek professional treatment to focus on becoming a better husband and healthier person,” the statement reads. “In light of that, he will request a short leave of absence from the House of Representatives so that he can get evaluated and map out a course of treatment to make himself well. Congressman Weiner takes the views of his colleagues very seriously and has determined that he needs this time to get healthy and make the best decision possible for himself, his family and his constituents.”….More.….
