Congress WILL try NOT to shut down the Government over spending….

They’re gonna punt…..

Again….

Lets see if the can extract a little MORE drama out of this from the Conservatives in the House?

Senior House and Senate leaders voiced optimism that they could reach agreement on a stopgap spending measure that would prevent a government shutdown shortly before the November election.

Congress has more than two months to figure out how to fund the government this fall, but because lawmakers are only in session for less than three weeks during that time, discussions about a continuing resolution have heated up in recent days. The Senate has made little progress passing annual appropriations bills, necessitating a stopgap measure to keep the government’s lights on through the November election.

It could be political suicide to have a government shutdown before voters go to the polls — for both sides of the aisle. Congress’s approval rating is a scant 16 percent, according to a July Gallup poll.

The central issue has been the length of a stopgap, and both sides appeared to be moving toward a six-month bill, which would keep the government running into 2013.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said Thursday talks were occurring “at a high level” and had been “very productive.” Reid also suggested that he would support a continuing resolution that would extend into 2013, aligning him with House conservatives who have pushed their leadership for a six-month bill. “It would be to my preference that we do something that would alleviate this being an issue that we have during the lame duck,” Reid said….

Romney disses the British on their Olympic operation ……

Good ole Mitt Romney….

Get’s off the plane and promptly inserts foot in mouth!

‘Only he can run an Olympics?”

He’s a great prospect for the President of the USA!

hosted2.ap.org….Romney stepping out of 10 Downing Street…The PM’s house

Mitt Romney jetted across the Atlantic this week, partly to escape the stature-diminishing grind of the daily campaign — but he arrived to find an adversary every bit as ferocious as President Barack Obama’s Chicago crew: the British press.

Romney’s critique of this country’s preparations for the Olympic Games caused a firestorm in the London-based media Thursday, putting the Republican presidential hopeful on damage-control duty and ensuring that a trip meant to remind American voters about his leadership of the 2002 Winter Olympics and his diplomatic bona fides began on a sour note.

By the evening here, Romney had become part of a rallying cry, meant to fire up proud Britons.

“There’s a guy called Mitt Romney who wants to know whether we are ready!” London Mayor Boris Johnson bellowed to a crowd in Hyde Park. “Are we ready? Yes we are!”

It wasn’t supposed to go like this.

After a day spent gripping and grinning with Great Britain’s past and present political elite, Romney was to have emerged from 10 Downing Street looking every bit the president-in-waiting.

But even before he began taking questions from reporters, the candidate knew he had to douse water on Fleet Street’s flames.

“I applaud the work the organizers did in bringing the Olympic experience right into the heart of London,” Romney said in his prepared remarks.

That was a touch more soothing to the Great British ego than what led to the trans-Atlantic flap.

Political Roundup for July 26, 2012…Red Racing Horses

by: Ryan_in_SEPA
President

Romney/Bush/Rubio: Jeb Bush has urged Mitt Romney to select Florida US Senator Marco Rubio to be his vice presidential choice.  Bush has been making the push in public and private as of late, but ruled out himself being a candidate for vice president.  He recently admitted he should have ran for president this cycle.

More Romney/Rubio: In light of the Aurora shooting, the Romney campaign has cancelled the campaign visit featuring Marco Rubio.  While the Colorado visit has been cancelled, Rubio intends to still appear at a Las Vegas event.

Christie: New Jersey Governor Chris Christie says he would be interested in running in 2016 if Mitt Romney does not win in 2012 or elects to not serve a second term.  Christie has been courted for vice president, but interest has waned as of late apparently over a personality difference with Romney.  Who would have suspected.

O’Malley: Speaking of 2016, Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley has set up a federal PAC.  The Democratic Governor of Maryland is viewed as a favorite of progressive members of the party who are looking for a candidate to run in 2016.

Obama/Leaks: The Obama campaign seems to be on the defensive and changing its story regarding the leaking of classified information.  Senior campaign advisor David Axelrod said on Morning Joe that President Obama did not leak the information or authorized its leak.  This is a change in the White House’s previous stance that nothing was leaked from the White House.

Portman: Ohio US Senator Rob Portman is considered to be near the top of Mitt Romney’s short list for vice president, but even if he is not selected, he will be a valuable asset in the Senate.  Portman has a strong relationship with several moderate Democrats and could be a key ally for Romney in any budget deal.

North Carolina:  Is North Carolina trending right again or is still a competitive battleground? The Romney campaign is treating it as a Republican leaning state while the Obama campaign seems to still think its in play.  While I think Romney wins North Carolina, I am not sure it is completely in the bag.

Polling: The Hill provides an interesting analysis on the obscene nature of the amount of polling the Obama campaign is performing especially during June.

Enthusiasm: Republican voters have opened a significant enthusiasm gap over their Democratic counterparts.  Democratic Enthusiasm is lower than in 2004 and 2008 while Republican Enthusiasm is in line with 2004 and substantially higher than 2008.

The President orders some illegal immigrant children’s deportations halted……

In a message to the Latino and anti-immigration people….

The President has moved forcefully to do something he had been reluctant to pursue ….

For Obama the issue had been festering recently….

(I did a post on this recently)….

Latino’s are solidly behind  Obama , by more than 60%….

But the recent headline a few days ago that the OBAMA Administration had been carrying out RECORD deportations had begun to move around the Latino and Hispanic communities and Obama was seeing figures in the polls that Latino’s where NOT gonna come out and vote come November…..

There  is more to this story….

The new order applies to young illegals (under 30) that would qualify for the much talked about Dream Act….

 and…

They must have clean records…..

In another action…

Ex- Mississippi Republican Governor Haley Barbour  ( he leads a pro-Romney Pac) has come out for a process to offer citizenship to the 12 million long term illegal’s in the United States….

This position is somewhat similar to what Mitt Romney had first advocated in the GOP primaries before he scurried back to the hard right position of NO path to citizenship….

Didn’t Romney us the term’self-Deportation?”…..

The policy is designed to aid immigrants who would have been affected by the DREAM Act, a Democratic-backed bill that would have put many students and veterans on a path to citizenship but failed to win passage in Congress. The White House had been reluctant to go around Congress to resolve the issue, but began to feel pressure from advocates when a prominent Hispanic Republican, Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, began working with activistson a scaled-back version of the bill.

The move puts pressure on presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, who ran to the right of the field on immigration during the GOP primaries.

Another development:

At a Christian Science Monitor breakfast Friday, former Mississippi governor Haley Barbour (R) forcefully advocated for a program of legalization for illegal immigrants currently in the country.

“We’re not going to deport 12 million people, and we shouldn’t,” said Barbour…..

Primary results 2012: Mitt Romney ‘s 5-state sweep

Mitt and Ann Romney greet the crowd Tuesday. | AP Photo There was little suspense in tonight’s elections. Only in Delaware, where Newt Gingrich camped out in recent days and collected endorsements from top local officials, was Romney at any risk of losing. Even a Gingrich victory there would have been unlikely to complicate Romney’s glide to the Republican convention in Tampa. (Also on POLITICO: GOP delegate tracker) But with nearly all of the vote reported, Romney was crushing Gingrich in Delaware by a 30-percentage-point margin. Speaking to supporters in Manchester, N.H., Romney declared a formal end to the primary season and predicted: “Together, we are going to win on Nov. 6.” “After 43 primaries and caucuses, many long days and more than a few long nights, I can say with confidence and gratitude that you have given me a great honor and solemn responsibility,” he said, framing the general election as a test of the country’s economic resilience. Said Romney: “The last few years have been the best that Barack Obama can do. But it’s not the best America can do.” Romney has not yet secured enough delegates to clinch the GOP nomination officially, but he has already been treated by his party as its presumptive nominee for two weeks, since Rick Santorum ended his White House bid earlier this month.
