Jobs Stimulus Bill Passes in Senate With 11 Votes From Republicans….

The Senate has passed a second Stimulus bill ( ‘Jobs ‘ Bill ) by the vote of  68 to 29 with Republicans supplying 11 votes……

While a lot of GOPer’s complained about spending…the fact is these senators will be able to go home and tell their voters that they did their part to create jobs…….not just bash Democrats…..

The Senate approved and sent to President Obama on Wednesday what Congressional Democrats hope will be the first in a series of bills spurring employment by providing tax breaks and other hiring incentives to businesses.

The measure, approved on a bipartisan vote of 68 to 29, would give employers an exemption from payroll taxes through the end of 2010 on workers they hire who have been unemployed for at least 60 days. It also extends the federal highway construction program and takes other steps to boost public building projects.

“Congress is focusing on what the American people want us to focus on — which is jobs, jobs, jobs,” Senator Charles E. Schumer, the New York Democrat, said on the Senate floor before the vote.

While 11 Republicans voted for the measure, others in the party were skeptical that the measure would help create new jobs, or said they were distressed at its cost.

“This isn’t so much a jobs bill as it is a debt bill,” said Senator Judd Gregg, a New Hampshire Republican.

Democrats had hoped to get the measure to the White House weeks ago, to demonstrate to the public that they were responding to the bleak national employment picture. But the measure was slowed in the House by concerns among some Democrats that the bill did not do enough, and by procedural obstacles in the Senate.

Even so, there were more than enough supporting votes in the Senate to jump the parliamentary hurdles. Democrats now intend to push ahead with renewing more than $30 billion in corporate tax breaks and providing additional help to small businesses.

Under the bill now heading to President Obama’s desk, businesses that hire workers who have been jobless for at least 60 days will be exempt from paying the 6.2 percent payroll tax on those employees’ earnings until the end of the year. If those workers stay on for a full year, businesses will also get a $1,000 tax credit. (The employee’s pay would still be subject to the usual personal income taxes.) The business tax breaks would add up to about $15 billion in all.

It also provides an extra $20 billion for road and bridge construction and extends the federal highway program through year-end. The Transportation Department furloughed roughly 2,000 workers earlier this month because of a temporary freeze in the program.

The Democrats go back to Senators Snowe and Collins…..again…

With the Healthcare Bill now coming up on the floor in the next few weeks….We go back to the same ole’ script….Keep the Democrats in the senate, in line…but get Maine’s moderate Senators, Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins on board if you can, for insurance…and bipartisan cover…..

We have seen this act in the Stimulus bill and other situations…and the process the democrats hand both senator enormous power of the final outcome of this bill as in other cases….

Both Collins and Snowe did not vote to bring the Healthcare Bill to the Senate floor, but that is because their votes were not needed (they knew the democrats had the votes)…..

But now when the things get serious…it is ‘let’s make a deal time’…and there will be deals..no doubt

Because in the end the Democrats will benefit greatly if they can say the bill  has bipartisan backing…they care probably do it alone….

But that would be a hollow victory with risks for the party, and the president if the bill ‘s policies turn out to not work….

The ‘Public Option’ isn’t dead………

While the media’s talking heads, and the front pages of the nations newspapers will scream about today’s Senate Finance Committee votes ( two of them)…… The provision remains there, in the two versions of the bill drawn up by the House…….it isn’t dead folks…far from it……and remember…….

Obama wants a bill…..And a bipartisan one, at that…with, or without, the ‘option’…stay tuned for more…it’s just getting interesting…….

Any Healthcare bill will be bipartisan…….Believe it……..

I have posted here that I believe that any ultimate Healthcare bill should and will be bipartisan…and I firmly believe that…and I don’t care what the media talking heads, or liberal, or progressive blogs print…the bill cannot be democratic only bill…it just won’t work…..Obama simply can’t accept that politically and logically and he’ll never get the required votes (especially with Byrd back in the hospital, and the fluid position of Ted Kennedy’s seat)…….I stand by my analysis…….
