The Navy SEAL’s are looking to add More Diversity to its ranks…

Well look at this….

The SEAL’s have come to see that white guys with steel eyes and crew cuts aren’t gonna be TOO hard to spot and ID as Special Operators in Africa or Asia…

I comment the Navy for getting on the ball and reaching out for MORE diversity in the Special Operations ranks…

It can only Help the units….

NAVY
The homepage of the SEALs’ recruiting website

In nature, most seals are black, with relatively few white ones. The Navy’s SEALs have exactly the opposite problem – they’re overwhelmingly white, with hardly any blacks. So they’re trying to do something about it.

It’s a fundamental challenge in a democracy with an all-volunteer force: recruits may be drawn from all segments of society, but elite military units – and none is more elite these days than the SEALs, following their dispatch of Osama bin Laden last May – tend to draw from small pools of talent. For the SEALs, that includes athletic young men who are smart and good in the water. For whatever reason, that has led to an overwhelmingly white SEAL force.

Say the SEALs:

Gaps exist in minority representation in both officer and enlisted ranks for Special Warfare operators. Diverse officers represent only ten percent of the officer pool (for example, African Americans represent less than 2% of SEAL officers). Diverse enlisted SEALs account for less than twenty percent of the total SEAL enlisted population. Naval Special Warfare is committed to fielding a force that represents the demographics of the nation it serves. This contract initiative seeks effective strategies to introduce high potential candidates from diverse backgrounds to the opportunities available in Naval Special Warfare.

The SEALs are considering hiring help to attract thousands of “minority males in the 16–24 year-old target age range” to become SEALs. “This contract will create a mechanism to enhance Naval Special Warfare’s ability to conduct outreach, raise awareness, mentor, and increase self-selection to a career as a SEAL within minority communities,” a recently-posted draft contract solicitation says.

The Navy isn’t seeking only black SEALs: “Challenges for minority recruitment also exist in the Hispanic, Asian Pacific Islander (API), Native American, and Arab American populations among others,” the announcement notes. “Given shifting demographics, these gaps in representation need to be corrected to ensure continued access. There are sustainment, societal, educational, and operational drawbacks to failing to correct this disparity.”

Ain’t that the truth. U.S. special operators have long acknowledged they face challenges mixing in with foreign populations because they look so American. The SEALs acknowledge as much: “Traditional SEAL Team demographics will not support some of the emerging mission elements that will be required,” it says.

Two pictures highlight the challenge:

On the cover of the latest issue of Newsweek are 10 SEALs. All of them appear to be Caucasian. That’s the reality.

But when you go to the SEALs’ recruiting website, there are only two SEALs. Both of them appear to be African-American.

That’s the desire…..

April is Confederate History Month in Virgina?

Just when you thought things couldn’t get anymore crazy out there……

I see this……

What slap in the face to state’s blacks…….

Gov. Robert F. McDonnell, reviving a controversy that had been dormant for eight years, has declared that April will be Confederate History Month in Virginia, a move that angered civil rights leaders Tuesday but that political observers said would strengthen his position with his conservative base.

The two previous Democratic governors had refused to issue the mostly symbolic proclamation honoring the soldiers who fought for the South in the Civil War. McDonnell (R) revived a practice started by Republican governor George Allen in 1997. McDonnell left out anti-slavery language that Allen’s successor, James S. Gilmore III (R), had included in his proclamation.

McDonnell said Tuesday that the move was designed to promote tourism in the state, which next year will mark the 150th anniversary of the start of the war. McDonnell said he did not include a reference to slavery because “there were any number of aspects to that conflict between the states. Obviously, it involved slavery. It involved other issues. But I focused on the ones I thought were most significant for Virginia.”

The proclamation was condemned by the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus and the NAACP. Former governor L. Douglas Wilder called it “mind-boggling to say the least” that McDonnell did not reference slavery or Virginia’s struggle with civil rights in his proclamation.

Harold Ford Jr. starts to work the black vote in New York……and WHY ARE ALL BLACKS SUPPOSED TO BE POOR?

Here’s a piece from the New York Daily News on Harold Ford Jr., the probable U.S. senate democratic candidate…

…notice how the descriptions allude to Ford ‘s money….

…why does the media, and  all the lefty’s, criticize a black man for having money?…..are all BLACK POLITICAN’S suppose to be poor?

There has been a concerted effort in the push back against Harold Ford Jr. in New York by establishment types and Gillirand boosters to accentuate that Harold Ford Jr.. isn’t some poor, hand me down black person….almost every reference to him us about rich white donors and Ford getting driven around New York City in SUV’s…..now I’ve been watching this whole thing from when Schumer proportioned Gillibrand to take the senate seat…and no one…no one….has complained about the company Gillibrand keeps to make her money……what’s going on here folks??????

The white liberal cadre out there, that supports a ‘New York Blue Dog Democrat’ is attacking Ford, for travelin in same circles as Gillibrand…and he’s the bad guy????

Last time I looked their stances on most polices, were the same……..

What gives?

Here’s the piece……..link..….

Progressive's and liberal's will be torn on Harold Ford Jr. running for the Senate from New York….

While the Dog will happy to see Harold Ford Jr. mix it up with Kirsten Gillibrand…and so will minorities and voters in New York City, which has the most of the states population…..Liberal’s and Progressives will not be so happy…..Ford who held office in Tennessee has a record as a moderate democrat due to ne=cessity….running as black man in the south means not being a liberal period….ask Artur Davis, who’s running for Governor of Alabama……

I fully expect that if Ford runs in New York that he will carry the minority vote in the state and most of the New York City vote thus assuring him of a victory over Gillibrand….I aslo expect that Chuck Schumer and the White House are not going to get involved in this race…since it would be the second major BLACK candidate  trying to get a seat in the state (Gov Paterson being the first)…..

In addition, Schumer is not going to be happy camper here since Ford is really no rookie and can hold his own…..

The carpetbagger stuff in pure batshit…….

Here’s the counter piece from Nathan Empsall over at Mydd.com…….

Wow, talk about a newsworthy day. Cherry, Dorgan, Ritter, Dodd, the agreement not to have a health care conference committee, and now this oddball story from the New York Times: “Harold Ford Jr., the former congressman from Tennessee, is weighing a bid to unseat Senator Kirsten E. Gillibrand in this fall’s Democratic primary, according to three people who have spoken with him.“ Fundraiser Steve Rattner says he would support Ford, who moved to New York three years ago, and Indepublican Mayor Michael Bloomberg hinted that he’s open to it as well.

Charles Schumer has been, as the Times puts it, “aggressively elbowing out potential primary challengers to Ms. Gillibrand,” but I doubt that will stop Ford. Remember, this is the guy who challenged Minority Whip Nancy Pelosi for the position of Minority Leader. He doesn’t seem to pay much attention to threats from above. My guess is if he thinks he can raise the money, he’ll run.

Still, I think it’s bizarre and, as much frustration as many progressives may have with Gillibrand, I doubt Ford would beat her. For one, yes, New York may have elected “carpetbaggers” Hillary Clinton and Robert Kennedy, but neither of them had ever held office in another state before. This reminds me more of former New Hampshire Senator Bob Smith, who is again running for the Senate, but from… Florida, where he now sells real estate. Despite his past credentials, he can’t even get pollsters to take him seriously enough to include his name in their questionnaires. Ford wouldn’t be quite that much of a joke, but his blatant opportunism could make past carpet-baggers’ ambitions look downright down-home. He also has quite the lengthy verbal track record to defend as an MSNBC commentator – lots of potential oppo research there. Throw that in with his status as vice chairman of Merrill Lynch (I wonder if he got a bonus in ’08 or ’09?), and the man’s got far more than a simple carpetbag for new baggage. I look forward to seeing a Gillibrand-Ford poll, but for now I think the best three words to describe this potential development are “bizarre,” “quixotic,” and “silly.”

Gov. David Paterson….it's not about you personally….its about you can't win…….

The New York State Governor is looking around for sympathy, for a run at being elected to the job, that was passed on to him ,when Spitzer quit…and he won’t get it…….if he doesn’t remember….. he has no poll numbers…..none…any Republican could beat him, hands down…..and…..right now…New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo beats any Republican…..

Get it????

My beef is…Rahm and Obama should grease the wheel by offering the states first Black Governor something to ease the pain on all sides, Paterson, Cuomo, the state’s blacks and the party…..

President Obama swings back at actor Danny Glover……

Glover , who has complained, out loud that Obama isn’t doing enough for blacks…..touched a nerve….

……which had Obama point out……”If you want me to line up all the black actors, for example, who support me and put them on one side of the room and a couple who are grumbling on the other, I’m happy to have that,” Obama said.

Obama never the less,  still will be on the spot with blacks, and the Congressional Black Caucus …..and will have to make some moves to address the problem before he run’s again in 2012……

President Obama is losing his white support……but not his black support…..

While it is too early to say anything about 2012…and to say if the poll numbers will last…it is interesting to see a Gallup poll that states what many of us though would happen due to the employment figures…..The President is losing his popularity to whites…..

Now I’m a person who was very surprised at how he did with whites last year…especially whites in Florida, North Carolina and Ohio…..it just amazed me that the nation’s first black to seriously run for president would post such numbers in those states….but now, with unemployment rising even though the economy is coming back (slowly, very slowly , just below 3%) people who routed for Barack Obama have become somewhat disenchanted…..we understand that….

The Bottom line in the polls final summary…….

Obama won the Democratic nomination and the presidency with strong support from blacks and other racial minorities. In fact, according to exit polls and Gallup’s final pre-election estimates, he won the election despite losing by double digits to John McCain among white voters.

Those patterns of support seem to have persisted into his presidency, with his support among whites starting out lower and dropping faster than his support among nonwhites. And though he maintains widespread loyalty among Democrats, the small loss in support he has seen from his fellow partisans seems to be exclusively from white Democrats.

It is important to note that this pattern is not unique to Obama. For example, Bill Clinton averaged 55% job approval during his presidency, including 52% among whites but a much higher 76% among nonwhites and 82% among blacks.
