Blackberry cell phone sales level off…….

Aren’t they supposed to be the top seller in the texting cell phone market?

Hummmm???

Research In Motion, the maker of the BlackBerry, reported fourth-quarter sales and shipments on Wednesday that missed analysts’ estimates and said that its profit margin would shrink this period.

Sales in the period ended Feb. 27 rose 18 percent, to $4.08 billion, the company said in a statement. Analysts in a Bloomberg survey projected $4.31 billion on average. Research In Motion said it shipped 10.5 million devices, less than estimates from Citigroup and Goldman Sachs.

The company spent 46 percent more on research last quarter as it develops devices that can replicate the success of the Apple iPhone or Droid fromMotorola.

Research In Motion unveiled a revamped version of its touch-screen Storm in October, after the first version was criticized for awkward typing technology. Gross margin, a profitability measure, will be 44.5 percent in the quarter ending in May, down from 45.7 percent last quarter.

We are a country of data Information and Entertainment ……..

Flat screen TV’s…….Blackberrys….iPhones……Cable …….Xbox’s…….Satillite’s……Flat Screen Computers…….

John Anderson and Sharon Rapoport (above) estimate they spend $400 a month, or close to $5,000 a year, keeping their family of four entertained at home.

There are the $30-a-month data plans on their BlackBerry Tour cellphones. The Roanoke, Va., couple’s teenage sons, Seth and Isaac, each have $50 subscriptions for Xbox Live and send thousands of texts each month on their cellphones, requiring their own data plans.

DirecTV satellite service, high-speed Internet access and Netflix for movie nights add more.

“We try to be aware of it so it doesn’t get out of control,” said Mr. Anderson, who with his wife founded an advertising agency. “But, yeah, I would say we’re pretty wired.”

In the Dogs house……we have Five TV’s on cable….One computer hard wired to cable….and a Lap top with Wifi……a  Blackberry and two cell phones ……with a few hard wired telephones and a fax machine with a seperate line……

And we spend about $400 a month….. just like the Rapoports…….

We’re hooked……….

Here’s the link for the rest of the piece……

People don’t really use all the stuff they put in cellphones……..

I don’t feel so lonely after all…….I have flip phone………

And I use it to make phone calls …….

That’s all…….

I don’t use the camera…..I don’t text……I don’t email anybody……

I just the phone to make phone calls…it is just a phone…..right?

Well it turns out that I’m among the norm….not the exception………

The average iPhone or iPod Touch owner uses 5 to 10 apps regularly, according to Flurry, a research firm that studies mobile trends. This despite the surfeit of available apps: some 140,000 and counting.

Last week’s announcement of the Apple iPad, a tablet device that runs iPhone applications and will not be available until March, has already spurred the development of more, including a version of a drawing app called Brushes; Nova, a shooter game; and Apple’s own app called iBooks, which will connect to its new online e-bookstore.

But that doesn’t mean that people will change their habits. Actually, it may just make them feel a tad more overwhelmed. The next generation of gadget users might prove different, but for now it is clear that people prefer fewer choices, and that they gravitate consistently toward the same small number of things that they like. Owners of iPhones are no different from cable TV subscribers with hundreds of channels to choose from who end up watching the same half-dozen.

This is all good…..

Cause I don’t need a iPhone….or  Blackberry…….

I just need a plain ole’ cell phone……..

Surprise…..Laws banning cellphone use while driving apparently haven’t reduced accidents…….

Laws banning cellphone use while driving apparently haven’t reduced crashes, according to a study released on Friday that compared the number of total crashes before the ban with the number after. The study found virtually no difference in the numbers, a finding that had the researchers scratching their heads.

“We were very surprised,” said Adrian Lund, the president of the Highway Loss Data Institute that conducted the study and an affiliate of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

The thought was, of course that if law were passed that decreased cellphone use, then there should be fewer crashes. But that was not the case.

“You know that there should be fewer,” he said. “We were looking for that, and we aren’t seeing that pattern,” said Mr. Lund, who is also the insurance institute’s president.

This is the first look at crashes in California, New York, Connecticut and Washington since they passed bans on hand-held cellphone use while driving. One reason Mr. Lund was so surprised was that the institute had previously conducted research that showed that drivers talking on cellphones seemed to be four times as likely to crash.

The new study, which was completed in December, looked at crashes (and not just at those involving cellphones) in those four places and found no decrease in accidents, despite the bans’ having reduced the use of hand-held cellphones 41 to 76 percent. The researchers obtained those numbers by going out to street corners and exit ramps to observe how many people had cellphones up to their ears before the bans compared with after the bans.

“We can’t even see a blip in the data for crashes,” said Mr. Lund. Furthermore, there was no indication that increased cellphone use was resulting in more crashes nationwide, despite what studies and common sense would indicate.

The Dog thinks several things are happeneing…..First of all…when people know they can’t drive and talk….then simply pull over and talk……Second……People have gotten better are talking and driving……Third one’s that constantly talk and drive but a handless system……Fourth…some people don’t say this but they drive and text……but they won’t do so in a research situation because they know to do so is stupid…but in private they do so anyway…..

Note:……The next time you are on the road and you see a police car…look to see if the cop is driving and using the phone……

Update.…..A little while back…..accidents turned into crashes…..I still call them accidents…..

The best gas conservation measure's have been technology…..

Think about it……First FAX machines meant that you could send copies of letters and documents, instead of mailing( The Post Office driving them)  them or driving to pick them up……e-mails meant that you could send information and documents (you couldn’t personally sign them) from anywhere on the plant to somewhere else (who needs FEDEX?)……..now you can use a cell phone to go to the store and get the right thing for your wife…and not have to go back to the store and return the wrong thing (saving you countless  trips)…….

All of these handy things have of course caused all sorts of other crazy things to occur …….like texing while driving….having your wife check your phone to see if you have strange females calling you….giving the cops a way to track you, even if you’re not using the phone… giving your kids something to do…instead of giving you a way to keep in touch with them, and have them do their school work…..and sadly enabling bad guys to set off remote bombs………

Saving gas consumption and opening other doors……progress thru technology…….
