Rick Sanchez Finally Speaks Out!

Rick Sanchez Finally Speaks Out!

Ex-CNN anchor Rick Sanchez has broken his silence and released a public statement about the regrettable, uh, ethnic comments that led to his firing last week. It’s fairly restrained — not a single Jew joke or anything. Full text, below.

“Inartful.” They always use “inartful” in these things:

On October 4th, I had a very good conversation with Jon Stewart, and I had the opportunity to apologize for my inartful comments from last week. I sincerely extend this apology to anyone else whom I may have offended.

As Jon was kind enough to note in his show Monday night, I am very much opposed to hate and intolerance, in any form, and I have frequently spoken out against prejudice. Despite what my tired and mangled words may have implied, they were never intended to suggest any sort of narrow-mindedness and should never have been made……. More.

Rand Paul announces that he would support Private employers discrimination by race?…..

You read that right……

Rand Paul the current GOP, Tea Party nominee for the United States Senate from Kentucky defended private employees rights to discriminate based on race…

He further goes on to say that the 1964 Civil Rights Law was wrong in taking away that right from those private employers….

He didn’t misspeak…..

He gave that same opinion on the MSNC Racheal Maddow show and at NPR……

Maddow: Do you think that a private business has a right to say that ‘We don’t serve black people?’

Paul: I’m not in favor of any discrimination of any form. I would never belong to any club that excluded anybody for race. We still do have private clubs in America that can discriminate based on race. But do discriminate.

But I think what’s important in this debate is not getting into any specific “gotcha” on this, but asking the question ‘What about freedom of speech?’ Should we limit speech from people we find abhorrent. Should we limit racists from speaking. I don’t want to be associated with those people, but I also don’t want to limit their speech in any way in the sense that we tolerate boorish and uncivilized behavior because that’s one of the things that freedom requires is that
we allow people to be boorish and uncivilized, but that doesn’t mean we approve of it…

Let me get this straight….The First Amemendement should makes it ok to tell someone they can’t eat in your dinner?

I’m not saying the guy is a racist…..I’m questioning his thought process…..he’s in line to become a United Sates Senator…..

It’s REAL now……

From Jonathan Singer @ MyDD……

Here’s an illustrative exchange from the NPR interview:

SIEGEL: But it’s been one of the major developments in American history in the course of your life. I mean, do you think the ’64 Civil Rights Act or the ADA for that matter were just overreaches and that business shouldn’t be bothered by people with the basis in law to sue them for redress?Dr. PAUL: Right. I think a lot of things could be handled locally. For example, I think that we should try to do everything we can to allow for people with disabilities and handicaps. You know, we do it in our office with wheelchair ramps and things like that. I think if you have a two-story office and you hire someone who’s handicapped, it might be reasonable to let him have an office on the first floor rather than the government saying you have to have a $100,000 elevator. And I think when you get to the solutions like that, the more local the better, and the more common sense the decisions are, rather than having a federal government make those decisions.

The problem with this view is apparent to just about anyone who lives in a world of reality rather than ideology. It is fine enough to believe that, in theory, individuals’ contractual and property rights should not be trampled on by the state, and that, what’s more, the market will solve all problems. But the fact is the market did not solve the problem of institutional racism. It took state action, not only in directing state actors but also in directing the practices of private individuals like the ones who owned restaurants. The same can be said about the Americans with Disabilities Act, which like the Civil Rights Act restricted individual action to ensure access for those who otherwise might be denied access. The good acts of individual property owners to accommodate their workers in the ways described by Paul in his NPR interview are important — but they were not enough. Only when the state stepped in were the rights of the disabled to access restaurants and other accommodations ensured.

This isn’t to say that Paul is racist or biased against the disabled. He’s not. He holds a principled stance against federal action to regulate private action in these areas. But this stance, when the manifested as the law of the land prior to enactment of the Civil Rights Act in 1964, enabled institutional racism to occur. That’s a fact. And that’s a problem for Paul because it’s hard to imagine many Americans, or Kentuckians specifically, want to go back to a period in which segregated lunch counters, whether on the basis of race or disability, are condoned under the law.

Daily Manila…….

I am very grumpy this AM.

There is no reason to panic!

But there is a reason to put on a dress.

Because their are not enough life boats!

290,000 new jobs and unemployment goes up!

And 66,000 were part time Census jobs.

Were the rest lawn service jobs?

And yesterday did a “Market Maker” step out to go to the powder room and was not there to catch the ball thrown by another “Market Maker” or has the HAL 9000 computer from 2001 A Space Odyssey found a new job?

Is this chicken little or the boy who cried wolf? Or better yet the boy who got paid off by the wolf, ate the chicken,  and then said nothing. We can believe Goldman Sachs, can’t we?

This shows that the market has no real legs and if this was a mistake either it happened accidental on purpose or was a blessing in disguise.

When you let people buy homes that are over their heads or if your Europe and let someone into the club who has no business being there the term “There goes the neighborhood!” applies.

And is someone is laughing all the way to the bank?

Shorty Shorts the Circus bear is!

Real crisis or not, I think Congress might want to smell the coffee because we may not have a depression, we may have a manic depression and people may start doing stupid things like pulling out their funds!

Joe Biden is aright when he speaks his mind…….

Democrat Vice President Joe Biden tells president Barack Obama he's going to Herzegovina this week

And the Vice President often speaks his mind in colorful terms….

And most people will take him for who he is…..

So will his boss……..

Most Not Offended by Biden Comment

A new Fox News poll finds that 57% of Americans did not think it was offensive when Vice President Joe Biden referred to the new health care reform law as a “big fucking deal.”

Thoughts on tonite's races from the Dog……

Virginia Governors race…What can I say?…this one was over two weeks ago…the dem’s picked a lackluster candidate….and he went on to lose the race all by himself……

New Jersey Governors race.….I think it all started with the car accident…the people of new Jersey saw the whole incident as irresponsible….and things went down hill after that  the economy tanked……Corzine’s money was resented by people who had lost their jobs….the negative campaign against Chris Christie (his weight) started off good but turned on Corzine last week the polls show…Once the Daggert people realized that they really had no chance..they went to Christie, NOT Corzine….Obama campaigning will be used by the national media as a big deal…it wasn’t…the last Obama rally I hear was about 13,000 people …nothing for this president…the final nail in the coffin was Bill Clinton campaigning for him…the last few Clinton campaigned for lost…….

The fact is so many people thought bad of the current Governor of New Jersey that the habit of that state returning to the democrats didn’t happen……

Mayor of the City of New York……Another rich guy that got into trouble tonight…Mike Bloomberg spend more than $85 million on a campaign that narrowly netted him his job…This had to be a blow to his ego and political strength with New Yorkers and the democratic party……he was sup[posed to win by at least 2 to 15b 5 of the vote…that didn’t happen…..his third term should be his last…..follow the rules “Money Mike’ do your run and go back to Wall Street…..

NY-23rd….I’m glad to see this race where it is currently…I restores my faith in the fact the people don’t really want to go all the way to right as a purity test even in upstate New York…… I hope that Owens hangs on there, and wins for the moderates in both parties…..

Update:……Hoffman just conceded the race (NY-23rd) …..the dem’s go to sleep with at least one win…and the conservatives ponder this race….and its implications……
