The first two of six unarmed MQ-9 Reaper UAVs that Italy has sought to order will be delivered in July, an Italian Air Force source said June 9

A U.S. source who has knowledge of the deal added that the UAVs, plus ground stations and support equipment, could be flown by cargo aircraft directly from California to the Reapers’ base in Puglia in southern Italy.

Two more Reapers will be delivered by the end of 2010, the Italian Air Force source said. The delivery schedule has slipped. Italian officials previously said they aimed to take delivery of the first Reapers by the end of 2009.

In addition to an order for four Reapers, Italy said last October it would seek to order an extra two to beef up its UAV surveillance capability in Afghanistan.

I told you so!…..President Obama joins Defense Sec. Gates in saying the the troops will START leaving Aftghanistan in 2011…..

The President….as all president’s do…say things….then realize that people will hold them to their word…..I suppose someone whispered in  his ear the obvious….with Aftghanistan President Karzai telling the world right after the deployment announcement, that his Afghan troops won’t be ready to do their thing for another 15 to 20 years….the chance of all of the American and NATO  troops leaving the country is non-existant….

Better to wiggle now..then in late 2011, when he’s running for the presidency again…and the republicans…and good many democrats, are hitting him over the head with his own words……

Note:…..I called this here….and here……

A 21 year old US Army solider, and single mother with a 10 month old, has been confined to her base after refusing to deploy to Aftganistan…

Alexis Hutchinson, 21, a US Army specialist knew she was being deployed with her unit to Aftganistan…so she arranged for her mother to take care of her 10 month old son Kamani…When her mother realized that she was not going to be able to take the child due to the fact that she hands full taking care of a special needs daughter, an ailing mother and an ailing sister. Alex  realized she was in trouble…Alex went AWOL trying to find care for her son during her deployment, but was unsuccessful..

…She reported back for duty and explained her problem, but was told……”you have a choice to make, but your duty is to get on that plane,” Sussman (Alex’s Hutchinson’s lawyer)  said. “She didn’t have anyone to take care of her child. She thought they’d put her on a plane and take her child away.”

She was given another month to arrange care for her son…..In the beginning of this month …Hutchinson’s mother managed to fly down and pick up Kamani and take him back home with her….But when Alexis reported  in to deploy she was arrested and confined to quarters…..The Army, since the story has gone national, now says that the manner will be handled by Hutchinson’s command as a possible hardship…..

But she she did get a lawyer…..

And she has indicated she’s ready to get on the plane……
