Andrew Cuomo has some serious decisions to make…..If and When he wins……

Andrew Cuomo

Andrew Cuomo…who is running 40% ahead of his Republican opponents…..(Lazio will probably be the weak nominee…Levy , as I expected, seems to be imploding )….

Will have to square his early campaign rhetoric with the reality of New York State Politics….

I have pointed this out before…

I ‘ll do it again….

Shelly Silver, The Labor unions, including the cops, firemen and more important teachers…are a big mother to get past….

Cuomo…like Spitzer is throwing things at them….

Spitzer once in office …..

Lost all momentum to them…

There is no reason to think they will lay down for Cuomo…….

Not after he rode their backs to an election victory…..

For free….

The campaign rollout included asking citizens and incumbent legislators to sign a pledge supporting Cuomo’s “clean up Albany” agenda; several of Cuomo’s worthwhile proposals, such as a requirement that legislators disclose the sources of their outside income, appeared to be aimed at Silver. Surrounded by reporters and cameras yet still sounding barely awake, the speaker shrugged off Cuomo’s idea. “I don’t sign anybody’s pledges,” he said. “Pledges are fixed in time, usually, and they really don’t mean much.”

The Cuomo-Silver exchange hardly qualified as a skirmish. But it did serve as a preview of the treacherous dynamic that awaits Cuomo if he’s elected—and it stirred a depressing sense of déjà vu. Four years ago, New York’s big problems were the budget and the Legislature’s intransigence; a crusading attorney general rode into the governor’s office brandishing an overwhelming margin of victory and promising to drain the Albany swamp. Bashing the Legislature sure didn’t get Eliot Spitzer very far. Cuomo’s fans—and even a few of his antagonists—claim he’ll arrive with more, and more-nuanced, tricks up his sleeve. His 250 page campaign platform is one such tool. “Spitzer’s mandate was a mandate for Eliot Spitzer,” one Cuomo intimate says. “He didn’t really say specifically the things he was going to do that would be controversial with the Legislature. Andrew’s laying out very specific things.”

Spitzer’s main tactic was threatening the seats of legislators who didn’t play ball. Cuomo’s strategy is subtler, involving carrots as well as sticks. The theory is that Cuomo’s pledge and his policy tome will provide cover for incumbents who are running—scared—this fall, and that if they’re reelected, they’ll return to Albany grateful to the new governor for saving their phony-baloney jobs.

Cuomo’s ability to finesse the angles is up for an immediate, serious test: whether to accept the ballot line of the Working Families Party, the alliance of public-employee unions that has quickly become a force in city elections and is looking to retain its statewide reach. Candidate Cuomo’s budget proposals would hit WFP members hard. “If he takes the WFP line, he’s crazy,” a prominent Democratic strategist says. “It will tie his hands as governor.” Yet if Cuomo gives the WFP the back of his hand and then bullies it over the budget, he will find himself in a predicament much like Spitzer’s, facing an array of determined, well-financed enemies. “He has not figured that out,” a Cuomo adviser says. “Andrew respects the constituent players of [the WFP], while he doesn’t agree with them on every policy. He does not want to be at war with any of the people in that group, even those who will bear some real pain if we’re going to get state finances in order.”

Eliot Spitzer will try working for CNN….Not the voters of the State of New York…..

Eliot Spitzer, former New York Governor

We reported that maybe the ex-Attorney General and ex-Governor might be planning a political come back…..

But…….

First there is this from Politicalwire……

It turns out former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer (D) made a good choice by staying on the sidelines this year and not attempting a political comeback.

A new Marist Poll finds that nearly two-thirds of registered New York State voters — 66% — do not want him to run for statewide office this year while just 28% want him to throw his hat into the political ring.

Said pollster Lee Miringoff: “Eliot Spitzer’s attempt to reconnect with New York voters is not paying off in the short-run. He has become more visible lately but not more electable.”

Then this from PolitcsDaily.…….Which makes sense after the Politicalwire thing…..

Eliot Spitzer, the disgraced former governor of New York, is on the comeback trail, but his re-emergence isn’t about running for public office. Rather, Spitzer has surfaced as a cable news political pundit.

The New York Times reports that Spitzer has held informal conversations with CNN about becoming a regular contributor to the news channel. Anything but shy, he is already a budding political analyst who has made frequent appearances on rival MSNBC, even filling in as an anchor. CNN has an anchor spot open weeknights at 8, but there is no indication that Spitzer is under consideration for that position, the Times said.

Eliot Spitzer could run like this……

Vincent Nunes over @ Room 8 Politcs…..has a very interesting post out about Eliot Spitzer …..

He could be pointing out what all the Spitzer media attention has been about…..

He lets everyone know that June 8 th …….

………is the first day Spitzer can begin the five week petition route that would force him to hit the streets.  The goal should be to collect 45,000 signatures, but Eliot already knows this.  That’s how he got on the ballot in his first race for Attorney General in 1994……

Nunes goes on…..

……..Eliot is keeping us guessing about what he’s up to.  Is he running for Comptroller? Attorney General? Or…as current A.G. Andrew Cuomo and Senator Chuck Schumer seem to be worried about, a race for Governor or the Senate? With the pro-Spitzer documentary out by Academy Award winning film maker Alex Gibney, polls show that a slim margin of New Yorkers continue to defy the conventional wisdom that there are no second acts in politics.  We New Yorkers relish the comeback kids….

But he reminds us about the New York State Bar and Spitzer’s criminal alligations…..Which would surely get a rehashing if Spitzer wgere to run for anything from Controller to US Senator……

Read the piece…..

This is going to be an interesting one folks…hold on to your seats!

Eliot Spitzer is hard on Andrew Cuomo……

The two in better times…….

In keeping with the wave that Eliot Spitzer is riding these days…..

The New York Times interviewed the former Governor (he resigned rather that getting in further legal trouble at the time )…..

True to his nature……

Eliot Spitzer let the current Attorney General and most probable next New York State Governor have it ……

He was unhappy about how ‘tough’ Andrew Cuomo is perceved…and how Cuomo handled the investigation into Spitzer’s action’s before he quit in disgrace……

I’m sure that Spitzer is a bit pissed about the position he’s in after his hard charging AG and Governor career going down the drain…..

In an unusually candid and sometimes biting assessment of his successor as attorney general, former Gov. Eliot Spitzer portrayed Andrew M. Cuomo as a man whose decisions have often been driven by political considerations and whose worldview has largely been shaped by the culture of Albany.

During an interview with The New York Times on Thursday, Mr. Spitzer also shed new light on the private resentments and clashes that have strained the relationship between the two men, both Democrats, including Mr. Cuomo’s 2007 investigation of the use of the State Police by Mr. Spitzer’s aides to gather information on a political rival.

Asked about Mr. Cuomo’s reputation as a “tough guy,” Mr. Spitzer responded: “Toughness is not the issue. It’s easy to be tough if the selection of one’s target is driven by politics. The real test is, do you take on the battles that have been unpopular and perhaps seem impossible to win but are important to take on?”

Richard Bamberger, a spokesman for Mr. Cuomo, said, “The attorney general’s record, credibility and honor speak for themselves, as do Mr. Spitzer’s.” Mr. Cuomo has yet to declare a candidacy for governor, but he is widely expected to run.

Eliot Spitzer continues his march back into the spotlight…..

The Dog pointed out here a week ago that Eliot Spitzer is too young to just pack his bags and sit on the sideline of political life…..

I happy to say I get a bone…..

Eliot Spitzer is apparently conducting an extended rollout after his mess-up …..

Alex Gibney’s “Untitled Eliot Spitzer Film” is rolling out next week and Spitzer may be at the opening to plea mea cupla..and them campaign on for some future spot…….

The man is 50 , smart, driven, and sorry for his stupidity….

We’ll follow this one….

He’s going places folks….

You can bet on that……

From PoliticalWire….….

Spitzer’s Comeback Continues This Weekend

Alex Gibney’s “Untitled Eliot Spitzer Film” will be unveiled at this weekend’s Tribeca Film Festival and rumor has it that former governor will attend the screening, the New York Daily News reports.

The film is so highly anticipated the Oscar-winning director is actually unveiling it before it’s finished.

Politico: “The comeback is audacious, and the strategy brazen: Spitzer skipped the public remorse, the charity-work penance. Instead, he is using a sympathetic new biography and the film to try to close the book on his recent past and pivot to what he now openly admits to hoping will be a second career in public life.”

Friends say Spitzer is counting on his public embrace of the book and the documentary “to serve as the last word on the sex scandal that ended his career and as proof that he has nothing left to hide.”

From Politico…..

His friends say that Spitzer is counting on his public embrace of the book and the documentary by Alex Gibney — which is expected to be sympathetic but serious and critical enough to be credible — to serve as the last word on the sex scandal that ended his career and as proof that he has nothing left to hide.

The book and movie “are a great steppingstone,” said Spitzer’s friend and former adman, Jimmy Siegel. “I think he will run for something in a year or two.”

Siegel’s view — reflected, on balance, in an interview for Peter Elkind’s new biography of Spitzer, “Rough Justice” — is this:

“On one hand, he’s the best attorney general [New York state has] ever had — a guy who transformed the office in a very proactive way and went after Wall Street when no one else ever had or would have — and turned out to be 100 percent right. On the other hand, he paid for sex. The ledger is much more on the positive side.”

That is, friends say, also Spitzer’s view, though the former governor didn’t respond to questions about the book. He did, however, talk about the matter with Elkind in late March.

Former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer (D) started using prostitutes in early 2006 — when he was still attorney general — and spent more than $100,000 on their services, the New York Post reports.

Elliot Spitzer Hosting on MSNBC…….

Eliott Spitzer is on his way back into New Yorker’s hearts…….

He filled in today on MSNBC………

Video frame grab of former NY Gov. Eliot Spitzer on MSNBC.

TVNewser has learned that former New York governor Eliot Spitzer will be substitute hosting for Dylan Ratigantoday on MSNBC at 4pmET.

Spitzer, who resigned from office amid a prostitution scandal, has increased his TV news appearances as he considers — or at least does not rule out — a return to politics telling Fortune magazine, “Right now, I can tell you I have a family that is in one piece… That’s a measure of success after what we went through.”

MSNBC’s Monica Novotny will be the news anchor on set during today’s show.

Maybe he’ll run for Controller of New York State? (2014)…….Going for Gillibrand’s Senate job might piss too many people off…….

Update……..

Lights, camera … Spitzer?

After years of being interviewed about his political successes – and glaring failures – Eliot Spitzer was on the other side of the microphone on Thursday.

Spitzer surprised regular MSNBC viewers who tuned into “The Dylan Ratigan Show” – and instead saw the former governor filling in as the guest host.

“Eliot has been a frequent guest on Dylan’s show and has provided our viewers with terrific insight into the financial crisis. With Dylan off today, it was the perfect opportunity to have him co-host the hour,” said MSNBC spokesman Jeremy Gaines.

Spitzer was forced out of office by a prostitution scandal less than two years after taking office.

The Democrat who won the 2006 governor’s race in a landslide said in a recent interview he feels “unceasing agony” about not being “where \[he\] would like to be” – that being finishing up his first term as governor.

Spitzer quizzed his guests on everything from the Wall Street bailouts to the future of the Republican party.

Some addressed Spitzer, who wore a pinstriped suit and blue tie, as “Eliot,” while others stuck with “Governor.”

Why would you be surprised about him grilling people?…..He WAS New York States AG and Governor…he might have been careless with his ‘Johnson’…but he isn’t a dumb man …..by a long shot………
