Eliot Spitzer wants back in……..

The Dog has posted this up before…….

Eliot Spitzer wants back in the political world…..while he might be bidding his time right now ( This piece shows his human side…… something absent before his fall from grace )…but…..make no mistake about it….

He wants to run, and get elected to a statewide post……he’s itching to get back….he’s taking his lumps now…but……

The Dog thinks he’ll be back…..one way..or another…..

Here’s the start of a Time Magazine piece……

His prospects for a full-fledged comeback may be slim, considering the transgressions that led him to resign as governor in 2008. After becoming chief executive of New York and swearing to enforce its laws, Spitzer was found to be a perpetrator, a patron of an illegal prostitution ring who was wiring money to shell corporations to pay for his habit. It was hypocrisy on a scale that was hard to fathom, as if Eliot Ness had been busted for peddling gin from his apartment.

At his wife Silda’s insistence, he has undergone marriage counseling and therapy. But so far, Spitzer’s attempted rehabilitation has largely been a media phenomenon. He’s a favorite guest on cable news shows, where he opines about Wall Street and regulatory reform. As he struggles to redefine his legacy, he is helped by the plunging standards for public figures; we seem to live in the midst of an endless race to the bottom, where it is nearly impossible to become permanently discredited. The ineptitude of his successor in the governor’s office, David Paterson, who is embroiled in scandals of his own and is facing calls for his resignation, has fueled nostalgia for Spitzer’s onetime image of official competence. Still, it’s hard to imagine that most voters could stomach having him back.

After a year and a half of hibernation, which he spent trying to repair his fractured family, Spitzer seems to have decided that he has done his penance. He has burst back into public view, eager to chime in on everything from the Treasury Secretary to the significance of the Democrats’ loss of Ted Kennedy’s Senate seat. Meanwhile, his friends are busy fanning rumors that he may again run for office, hinting in the press that he is “considering” entering the race for Senator, state comptroller or even mayor of New York City. (“You Can’t Keep a Bad Man Down: Spitzer Is Eyeing a Comeback,” read a headline in the New York Post, one of his main antagonists.) “Politics gets my heart pounding faster than buying a building and raising rents,” Spitzer says. But on the question of his trying to return to office: “You have to understand what my family would go through,” he says. “It would be unbearable. I just couldn’t do that to them. It would be day after day of the ugly stuff.”

One thing is certain….New York State Gov. Paterson does tell the truth……..”I did not sign up for this’……

He, he, he……say what you want about the guy….You have to admire the guys truthfulness….While sitting at an Associated Press lunch……the Governor of New York State, who has had a rough week, and actually had a rough tenure as governor  mused aloud…….The he really never expected to be where he is today……..

Paterson envisioned that in running and getting elected with Elliot Spitzer as Lt. Governor he would not be the direct spotlight………He thought that Hillary Clinton would win here bid to become president and the Spritzer would offer him the New York Senator spot……..Paterson continued that he was trying to do the best he could …….But that other democrats where busy trying to undermine him at every turn….

One gets the impression that Paterson feels that Cuomo’s hand has been in some of this and that people haven’t been very truthful about their actions to him……..The local press has highlighted the fact the governor’s wife  took a shot Obama in a statement NBC reported she made which was……” I never heard of a president asking a sitting governor not run”………hum?

White House asks NY State Governor Paterson not to run………..

New York State Governor Paterson has been quietly (until now) been asked to step aside in the race for the states governorship next year. With his popularity hovering around 20%, the political operatives in Washington, and the state could no longer standby and listen to Paterson not get the message that he has no chance to win election to a seat that was passed on to him with Elliot Spritzer’s resignations .

Democrat Andrew Cuomo, the states Attorney General, and ex Clinton era HUD Secretary,  is currently the states front runner for the spot and barring any major problems (no republican on the horizon will be able to touche him) will become the states next governor. He currently polls in the 60 to 79% range, easily beating the highest known Republican, Rudy Guilani.

The interesting thing to watch will the scramble for the Attorney General spot, since, if Cuomo moves on, the last two  democratic Attorney General’s will have ascended to the governorship…………

Update:……Paterson is defiant in telling the White House he’ll run anyways…but he’s gone……and he knows it…..New Yorker’s and the New York Democratic party will not stand for a Governor that is a problem to a democratic White House, and it’s ability to control money, and favors coming to the state…..The White House, the piece mentions, still remembers the fact that it’s first pick for the New York State Senate was Caroline Kennedy, whom Paterson did not pick, in favor of Kristin Gillibrand , who Schumer wanted, but is still weak in downstate New York…..

Paterson has no friends……….

Elliott Spitzer comeback …Part Two…..The early polls…….

SurveyUSA did a 500 person poll on Elliot Spitzer’s prospects for a return to political office in the Empire State (NY)……the results don’t seem to be insurmountable at this early date ……..meaning he could run for the New York Controller ‘s seat in 2010. In politics anything is possible……..but I can’t imagine the headlines………..
