Nassau County NY DA Rice is throwing punches back at rival Schneiderman….

Kathleen Rice is the candidate to beat going into the September New York State Democratic Attorney general Primary…

While Andrew Cuomo…

The Democratic front runner and probably next Governor  has pushed Rice…

During a straw poll last month she came in first place among five candidates….

When Cuomo tried to get the other guys out of the picture …..

Other democrats complained….

So the other guys are still in the game…

Eric Sneiderman, a New York State Senator,  has been Rice’s most vocal foe…..

And Rice knows that she must answer his attacks and not let him define her as a reformed Republican from Nassau  County Long Island……(She WAS a Republican back in the day )….

Rice is the only DA in the race….

She gained the job in her first run by being tough on drunk drivers..

She has mellowed in office….

And has on occasion explained to crowds the Dog has been at that ‘locking up everyone …isn’t the answer to every problem’….

The Dog believes she’ll be a fine Attorney General for the State of New York…..

Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice, the lone woman in the five-way Democratic field for Attorney General, swung hard at rival Eric Schneiderman for saying she fought against key portions of the Rockefeller Drug Law reforms.

Rice also accused the state Senator of political folly as the legislature gets set to vote up or down on a budget extender bill that, if shot down, would prompt New York’s first-ever government shutdown.

Her pushback via letter came a day after Schneiderman, who’s running with the progressive mantle, challenged her to a debate over the laws that many activists feel are draconian. Schneiderman said Rice had lobbied against moving sentencing for non-violent first-time felony drug offenders away from prosecutors to judges.

Her answer yesterday to him said she “looked forward” to debating the issues and said she supported the reforms.

But today, her team accused him of taking her words on the sentencing reforms out of context.

“While your decision to engage in political attacks in the hours before state government, at least, imposes sweeping cuts to families and neighborhoods across the state, remains the most troubling portion of your actions, the factual inaccuracy of your attack also raises serious questions regarding the integrity of your campaign,” her team wrote, accusing him of “egregious distortion” of the facts.

“District Attorney Rice has always supported reforming the Rockefeller-era drug laws. In fact, as the top law enforcement official in Nassau County, District Attorney Rice implemented the key principles of the reforms long before the legislature chose to take action,” the letter said.

She also included a separate letter from 2006 to back up her statement.
