Daniel….. Georgia Governor: Former Governor Roy Barnes (D-GA) in a TOSS-UP Race against Oxendine, Handel; Surprisingly former U. S. Rep. Nathan Deal (R-GA) leads Barnes by 7 Points …..

Hello Folks!

Former Georgia Governor Roy Barnes (D-GA) is in a competitive TOSS-UP Race against State Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine (R-GA) and former Secretary of State Karen Handel (R-GA) according to a new Survey in the Peach State. However (and this is surprising) former U. S. Rep. Nathan Deal (R-GA) who resigned in Mid-March to run full time for Governor leads Barnes by 7 Points.

Analysis:

I’m not entirely surprised about these Results.

Barnes is a former Governor in this State and has very strong Name ID.
Barnes could win this under the right circumstances EVEN in a bad Democratic Year.

SE pulls his endorsement of John Oxendine for Georgia Governor……

Retracting My Endorsement of John Oxendine

Upon reviewing the positions of Oxendine in comparison with the other candidates in the hunt for the GOP nod for the Georgia Governorship(namely McBerry), I have come to the realization that States Rights is a far more important issue than the FairTax, something you don’t see Ox taking to heart. Plus, I’ve reviewed one of the candidates Tax Platform, and it is strangely similar to the FairTax. I like Ox’s “Contract With Georgia”, but we must remember the last time the GOP made a contract with us(The “Contract With America”). We were horribly disappointed. Nothing much changed, except there was more bi-partisan measures. We need real change in the Government. Therefore, I am withdrawing my support of John Oxendine for Governor and am contemplating who to support next, though I find myself leaning McBerry. That, however, does not mean I support the unfair attacks from the emerging Neo-Conservative/GOP Good Ole’ Boy think tank RedState.

Just my poinion, and I’d like to hear yours in the comments.

No surprise here. After all Georgia is a Southern State and you would expect Democrats having trouble in the current Political Climate. Barnes is still within 10 Points of all 4 Republican Challengers. That’s good for him.

Merlin on Roy Barnes and the Georgia Governor's race…..and Governor's wanting their old jobs back…..

Hello Dog!

It looks like Democrats don’t seem to be doing as badly as I once thought, in the South. With Fmr. Georgia Governor Roy Barnes as the Democratic Nominee in that state….. Democrats may have a shot taking the GA Governor Mansion back….. a new Poll suggests.

Merlin’s Note:

I’m quite surprised Barnes is doing that well. At least some people still have good memories about him. Barnes, and Former Senator Max Cleland, were ousted in the good GOP year 2002, with very disgusting attack Ads. Roy Barnes is among 4 former Governor’s who want their old Job’s back. Others are Jerry Brown in California, John Kitzhaber in Oregon and Terry Branstad in Iowa.
