Stop-gap spending Bill will be approved by BOTH House’s…No Government shut down for 2 Weeks….

The thing will be to fashion another stop-gap bill agreeement and then deal with the Federal Government deficit ceiling….

Then come back and handle the rest of the 2011 spending bill , and THEN on to 2012…..

(I don’t think Congress is going to easily deal with the huge cuts the GOP newbie’s want….)

The GOP maybe claiming victory…

But cuts are coming and most of these cuts approved are from things that the Democrats could live with…

Gonna be interesting to see what happens when the money is scrubbed from some of the local projects that state already thought would be funded…

Done deal on a $4 billion cut gives Republicans spending victory

The House approved a stopgap spending resolution in a landslide vote to slash spending by $4 billion over two weeks.…

House Passes Stopgap Spending Measure

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH)

By a vote of 335-91 — including a majority of Democrats — the House voted Tuesday afternoon to slash $4 billion in federal spending between March 4 and March 18.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said the Senate should adopt this package word for word within 48 hours, which will prevent a government shutdown.

The real shutdown fight begins now, as House and Senate leaders put their heads together over a longer-term spending bill, to keep the government running through September.

Despite steep cuts, Reid says Senate Dems will pass House GOP plan

The Senate majority leader called short-term spending measures “a terrible way to govern” but said Democrats will pass it.…

Obama is working the Healthcare Bill at the White House….

With House Ways and Means Chair Charlie Rangel yelling to the media that they where having trouble getting a Healthcare Bill together between the House and the Senate ….it was good to hear that the President has decided to get his hands dirty, and help his party, and Congress get the Bill done…..

Now all he has to do is get out there and convince American’s that the darn thing won’t eat them up…….

And maybe he can save a few democratic seats by the November elections, while he’s at it………

The final Healthcare Bill will be more like the tamer Senate version….

Pelosi spent two hours addressing her Caucus via conference call on Thursday for the first time since she agreed to let the Senate bill serve as the vehicle for delivering a congressional health reform bill to the White House.

While this whole thing was dominating the headlines…you had to know things where going to play out this way….it had to …..Pelosi and Reid let the liberals and progressive’s have their say in the house….they let them have their vote…..no big fight with all those people running for re-election….let them go on record…..

But in the end…. I said Obama just wanted a bill…and that’s how it played…..

From day one I said Liberal and Progressives got captured in Iowa.…. ‘on the cheap’….

A whole lot of Obama looks a lot like Hillary Clinton….. two year’s ago…..

She has to be shaking her head …a lot these days…..

Haley Barbour was right…this President can surely sell what he wants…….

And right now….I’ll buy in……

President Obama….the ‘public option’ will not be a deal breaker…………….

I just checked the Sunday front pages and what do I see?…………Several pieces on how the \’public option\’ has been pushed aside for non-profit health insurance co-ops by President Obama along with the House and Senate leadership……..

SURPRISE…..not really!….

I have argued here since the beginning that Obama NEVER really bought  in the ‘public option’ thing…..and he didn’t…..after pointing that fact out in his speech, everyone has finally realized that he was serious about  that…….So, this morning I see the President’s marching orders pasted all over the place……….and they seem to be……

We want a Healthcare bill….Period…..We will make the bill palatable for some republicans to cast their votes for it. This the party line folks…….Either you are with us…or against us…….

Congress is back……and there is a lot of work to do……..

The United States Congress opens for its fall session, and there is a lot of things to deal with. The Healthcare Bill ( the 800 pound gorilla ) is due out by October,  A possible  immigration bill (Obama has indicated he may hold off on this, till next year), and something could be coming on energy, and climate change. In addition, congress must approve the 12 appropriations bills for  year (including the fight over Defense) . The House has already done so….But the Senate has eigth bills that they haven’t dealt with, and four that need to be reconciled  with the White House .

September 30th is the due date for appropriations…after that it’s continuing resolutions something the democrats, with both houses, hoped they wouldn’t need to do (that hasn’t happened since 1994).

Added to all this is laws and regulations, some which expire at the end of the year. Some of those include taxes that have to dealt with for political reasons (estate tax and others). And Obama is sure to send a few other things up to the Capitol for their consideration, with his strategy of keeping things busy……..Hold on folks, it should be an interesting ride!……..

Maloney will not run for the US Senate…….

Making a smart choice, Carolyn Maloney has taken herself out of the race for the US Senate from New York ( doing exactly the same thing as Carolyn McCarthy, in staying in a safe House seat ). She leaves Kristen Gillibrand, the rookie Senator, with clear sailing for the democratic nomination, and the seat for the full six years. Senior Senator Schumer has to be happy. He has gotten his way, and is done laboring behind the last New York junior senator,  Hillary Clinton, who stole almost all of his thunder for the past few years……..The voters of New York City will not really be happy……but what the heck?

The Healthcare bill is on it's way……..

The House Democrats have crafted a compromise (between the blue dogs, the democratic liberals and the Congressional Black Caucus) to get the bill just about finished……It will go to the full House for  passage when the House gets back in September…..slowly but surely……
