CD on the NBA Basketball finals Update…….Boston up 3-2…..

Yup, this matchup was important even when Al Jefferson was a Celtic. (AP Photo/Branimir Kvartuc, File)

NBA Finals 2010 update: Boston leads 3-2 with their amazing Game 5 win at the TD Garden in Boston, MA over the defending champion LA Lakers, 92-86 in a wild game as Kobe Bryant’s 38 points wasn’t enough to pull out the win.

It’s the Lakers vs the Celtics in the NBA Final………

A Phil Jackson Team does it again!…..

Kobe Bryant gets his props!

He gets 37 points and the win over the Suns…..

Now the Celtics…….

The Lakers are heading to their third straight N.B.A. finals, and their seventh since 2000. They will defend their title against theBoston Celtics, who beat the Lakers in the 2008 finals.

Bryant had 37 points and 6 rebounds in the finale and kept the Lakers ahead for the final three quarters. Ron Artest, who won Game 5 with a putback of Bryant’s airball at the buzzer, added 25 points, his best game of the series.

Boston was awaiting an opponent, having finished off theOrlando Magic on Friday night. The Celtics, powered once more by a healthy Kevin Garnett, look very much like the team that beat the Lakers in the 2008 finals.

Asked for an assessment, Coach Phil Jackson offered a mixed compliment.

“They’re physical,” Jackson said. “Garnett showed that during the course of the game, didn’t he? That they’re going to be physical. So I guess they’ve got that part of their game back.”

Amare Stoudemire, perhaps playing his last game in a Suns uniform, led Phoenix with 27 points. Steve Nash, who broke his nose in the series but still played like a most valuable player, had 21 points and 9 assists.

A series that has frequently turned brutal and bloody had one more moment of physical tension when the Lakers’ Sasha Vujacic struck the Suns’ Goran Dragic in the chin early in the fourth quarter. Vujacic was facing away from Dragic when he raised his arms, but the blow appeared intentional and drew a flagrant-1 foul…..

Kobe Bryant will be LA Laker for 3 more years…….

Fabforum

The ‘Franchise’ re-ups……..

Kobe Bryant signed a three-year extension to stay under contract through 2013-14 with the Lakers, the only team he has ever known in his NBA career.
Bryant was already under contract this season and next season for a total of $47.8 million before the extension would kick into gear. Financial details of the extension were not immediately available.

Bryant, 31, will be eight weeks shy of his 36th birthday when his new extension reaches its end.

“We are extremely pleased that we were able to reach an agreement and come to terms on the extension at this time,” Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak said in a statement. “Kobe has been a cornerstone of the Lakers for well over a decade, helping to lead us to four NBA championships and in the process developing into one of the greatest players in basketball history.”

The 12-time All-Star and the Lakers had casually been negotiating the extension, though there had been some thought that Bryant would not sign because he hoped to keep his options open, among them the unlikely possibility that a new collective-bargaining agreement would be more favorable to high-salaried players if it got renegotiated in 2011.

Kobe Bryant to skip the NBA ALL-Star Game……

On the mend

All the will-he-or-won’t-he chatter was rendered moot Thursday when the NBA announced that Kobe Bryant would not play in the All-Star game because of a sprained left ankle.

The Lakers guard will be replaced by Dallas veteran Jason Kidd, further diminishing the appeal of a weekend in which Southern California fans had hoped that Bryant would lead the West All-Stars to victory and Blake Griffin would dunk on some second-year player’s head.

Well, there’s always Lakers guard Shannon Brown competing in the dunk contest.

Bryant has missed the Lakers’ last three games because of his injury and did not speak with reporters about his All-Star status after sitting out a 96-81 victory over Utah on Wednesday. The upside is that Bryant will have had 10 days’ rest by the time the Lakers play Tuesday against Golden State.

It will be the first All-Star game Bryant has missed since the 1999 lockout and the first time he has not participated in a game that has been played since his rookie season in 1997. Bryant was co-most valuable player of the game last season along with Shaquille O’Neal.

Oh, Well…no buzzer beater from the Lakers Star, huh?
