Martha Coakley……..

The Massachusetts Attorney General, Martha Coakley, is alive and well thank you….

And the wiser on how to run a political campaign

CD typed that she was finished the other day…

He was wrong……..

This from PolitcalWire……

Coakley May Have No Challenger in Massachusetts

Three months after her loss in the Massachusetts U.S. Senate race, Martha Coakley (D) “faces the very real prospect of being re-elected as Massachusetts attorney general this fall without a Republican opponent,” the AP reports.

“The shift reflects lingering weakness within the state GOP, despite its success in staging Scott Brown’s upset win. It also highlights Coakley’s work to rehabilitate her image, as well as the satisfaction some voters feel for her in her current role.”

Martha Coakley…..will run for re-election for another term as the Mass. Attorney General…

This from the Boston Globe Newspaper…….

Despite being stung by her devastating loss to Republican Scott Brown in the US Senate race, Democratic Attorney General Martha Coakley will return to work this week and seek reelection in the fall, aides said.

“She loves her job,” said Coakley spokesman Corey Welford. “It allows her to take on issues she feels passionately about, to fight for people in the state.”

I hope she decides to campaign harder this time……..

Aftermath……Coakley loses…..Obama takes it on the Chin….and the reality vs the perception……

Last night one thing actually happened….Martha Coakley a Democrat….lost the Massachusetts Special Election for the vacated Senate seat to Scott Brown, a Republican……

The fact is as Nate Silver over at FiveThirtySeven relates……
Overall, we have a 31-point swing in the vote to explain: from Barack Obama’s roughly 26-point victory in November 2008, to Martha Coakley’s roughly 5-point loss today.

At a bare minimum, 10 of those points must be assigned to the national environment.Generic ballot polling suggests that the Democrats’ position has worsened by a net of 10 points since November 2008, from winning the House popular vote by 10 points in 2008 to being dead even with Republicans today.

Also at a bare minimum, 11 points of blame should be assigned to Coakley. That represents the difference between the 58 percent of vote that she received at her high-water mark in the polls to the 47 percent she received on Election Day. A fairly large number of voters, it appears, actually turned away from Coakley; it was not just a matter of undecided ones turning toward Brown.

That leaves us with 10 more points of blame to assign; let’s just dole those out as evenly as possible, giving 3 more points to Coakley, 3 more points to the national environment, and 4 to Massachusetts-specific special contingencies — it gets the extra point because it hadn’t received any yet.

That would make the final score: national environment 13, Coakley 14, special circumstances 4.

If you follow through on the math, this would suggest that Coakley would have won by about 8 points, rather than losing by 5, had the national environment not deteriorated so significantly for Democrats. It suggests that the Democrats would have won by 9 points, rather than losing by 5, had the candidate been someone other than Coakley. And it suggests that the race would have been a 1-point loss (that is, basically too close to call), rather than a 5-point loss, even if Coakley had run such a bad campaign and even if the national environment had deteriorated as much as it has, but had there not been the unusual circumstances associated with this particular election.

Folks….. I think Silver nails the analytical side of yesterday…..

Bad candidate, bad economic enviroment, bad campaign = one loss……..

Now we deal with the media and perceptions….

President Obama went to campaign for Coakley last Sunday….even the Dog suggested that….but it was too little…. too late (remember NJ?)……but the media and the politicians are at the point….they see bloods in the water…

….they are viewing last night not as a bad run, and a bad economic event…..but as referendum on Healthcare and the President….of which in reality it is neither….

Martha Coakley pissed her voters off….as an P1 commenter pointed out yesterday…no Mass AG has won election to higher offiice….as Silver pointed our…even democratic voters…in a democratic town!

Now I checked the papers and myself here….the Dog joined the crowd last night in pointing out that the perspective is going to point President Barack Obama…..I’m just as guilty as everyone else in jumping to perseptions…I admit it….

The second story we get today ….to pile on the President, is that the nominee for TSA Head, Erroll Southers is withdrawing his name….Oops!….the President takes another hit!

Then I go further down the page, and I see another punch thrown at the Obama adminbstration…..A complaint that the increase in the minimum wage is the reason for higher unemployment?

It’s gonna go on like this for a while…..

This the aniversity of President Obama taking his oath of office……

It is also the day after a senate race in one state is going to be tied to the ENTIRE DEMOCRATIC AGENDA….whether it deserves to …..or not…..

The Dog suggests that if President Obama and the democratic party wants to continue (and they will ) with any chance of suscess..they better sit down with the leader of their party and point out that he cannot afford to stay above the fry any longer…..even if it’s to work to support and get better candidates (a prime example is Kirsten Gillibrand in NY…let Ford primary her…let the voters pick the stronger candidate… less the same thing happen in New York also )

The race was the race…it’s over …the Democrat lost…the perscption war now begins with the GOP embolden to continue attacking everything and anything with Obama’s name on it…and all things Democratic…..

The economy has given birth to pent-up anger…..bad candidates and no help from the leader of the party may doom this country to a halt in eventing political and a JimmY carter one term wonder Presidency……

Just for the record…even with loss…the Democrats maintain their majority in BOTH HOUSES…….

Scott Brown wins the Mass Special Senate Seat!……

In a result that no one…I really mean …..no one could have forcasted…..Scott Brown, the Republican running for the Senate Seat held by the Teddy Kennedy…….has won…..

The Dog congratulates Scott Brown, the winner……

Martha Coakley the state’s Attorney General, and a Democrat…has managed to do what was done in the last two major races in New Jersey and Virgina…… she  literally threw the race away…….going vacation during the Holidays, making the Curt Shillings ‘Yankee’ mikstake…and not campaigning seriously until the last week…..( nevermind that Obama made the trip on Sunday….he did that in New Jersey, and Democrats lost that one also)

This from the Boston Globe……

Republican Scott Brown pulled off one of the biggest upsets in Massachusetts political history tonight, defeating Democrat Martha Coakley to become the state’s next United States senator and potentially derail President Obama’s hopes for a health care overhaul.

The victory caps a dramatic surge in recent days as Brown, a state lawmaker from Wrentham once thought to have little chance of beating a popular attorney general, roared ahead of Coakley to become the first Republican senator elected from Massachusetts since 1972.

With 93 percent of precincts reporting, Brown had 52 percent and Coakley had 47 percent.

In a race that became the center of national attention, Brown’s win is widely seen as a vote against the president’s agenda from one of the most reliably Democratic states. And in a particularly ironic twist, Brown, in succeeding Edward M. Kennedy — the late liberal lion who deemed health care “the cause of my life” — may well be the 41st vote to prevent the Democratic-led plan from moving forward.

While Republicans around the country may be excited….the Dog says this…….

ok… tonight…you  people sound like the Democrats right after Obama won….the Democrats are not going to table everything and just sit there with their thumbs up their you know what……

Also…….

…..This is a message to one person…..

PRESIDENT OBAMA…He can no longer just cruise above the fray…he has to get his hands dirty….to sell his programs (starting with Healthcare) and providing cover for the troops in Congress…they can survive together..or they sink together….

Note:……here’s a link to th Boston Globe chrono……

Ah, this is another one Merlin the magician got right…in the end……nobody could grasp this one…and most of the pollster’s… hedgeed their bets……

Obama’s election did not mean a ‘free for all’ of the left …….

When President Obama won his job…..Liberal and Progressive’s danced in the streets…celebrated and pronounced the GOP Dead on the Arrival……

How wrong they were…….

The Dog shock his head in wonder and amazement at the outpouring of statements by liberal’s and lefty’s about the President and the his policies……

We have watch one by one as the President surprise and then pisses the left and progressives off by moving consistently to the center of policy decisions……

This because the President knows that Americans go about right down the center and tend to lean to the right…not the left……With this in mind the President and Martha Coakley may find out what Jon Corzine and other have…that the Economy…the Healthcare Bill and lousy campaigning are not going bring those same people that voted for the president back to vote democratic…….

And another little secret to consider….. a lot of people gave Obama the nod..because he wasn’t Bush and they properly figured out John McCain would never be a good president……

After tomorrow’s vote what is the president going to do with the Healthcare Bill, The Economy and lousy democratic candidates?

President Obama FINALLY joins the frey!

I have complained here that the nation’s Democratic President has been ABSENT from the political part of the Healthcare Bill and its effects on the democrats in congress that have supported it……

Martha Coakley up in Massachusetts is in trouble in her race for the U.S. Senate against Scott Brown…..most feel that Healthcare is the ball and chain around Coakley’s ankle…the Dog agrees …and is happy to see that the President going up to Massachusetts to try to fight back the Republicans using the Bill to bring back the ‘le’ tax and spend’ campaign against the democrats…..

As the Dog has said before…It will not be enough for President Obama to get a Healthcare Bill pasted...he’s gonna have to sell the bill to the American people…. who have not heard a peep out of him about why the Bill is good for America….and why the Bill isn’t gonna further wreck the economy…..

In doing so…President Obama will be giving his thank you back to the Congressmen and Women that helped get the Bill passed into a law that exposed their buts to a GOP buzzsaw……

Nuff said!

Final ARG poll shows Brown with a small lead……

Merlin gives the Dog the final American Research Group Poll number ‘s which have Brown taking the lead ftom Coakley……

Morning everyone.

Well, we did get a new Poll out for the Massachusetts Senate Special Election.

American Research Group Survey

Scott Brown (R) 48 %
Martha Coakley (D) 45 %
Joe Kennedy (K) 2 %
Undecided 3 %

Merlin

The Dog has to admit…..Coakley is in trouble…..she must hope that democrats come out in huge numbers to vote, after the President asks them to…. on Sunday……Merlin is correct.…as in New Jersey……the Democrats semm to be doing it again…. that is….not doing a good job with their candidate.….and the perception..whether true or not,  that the Healthcare bill is hurting Democrats, and is getting a life of its own…..

Finally….the Dog has to say this…..The White House has been irresponsible and  self-serving in not providing cover and help to the people in congress who have carried the ball for them for the past year…while the Republicans have been good at political guerilla warfare …the democrats can look to the head of the party at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, and find absolutely no comfort…..none…..

Note: the poll does have a Margin of Error of 4%…which could put Coakley back ahead…..at best….. this race is tied with Brown having the ‘Mo’…..but that’s reaching….

Merlin on Massachusetts…..things ARE getting down to the wire……..

Hello Dog and morning!

What a shock this is even for me. I knew this race would be close, because Cook & Rothenberg moved the race into “Toss-Up” but seeing Brown now up 4, is all beyond my finest dreams……. BUT there’s a real Reason behind it……. HealthCare and that hurts Coakley big time. Compare that to her lousy and crappy candidacy, and you seeing Scott Brown ahead.

I’ll come to that Poll now…….

7News / Boston Herald / Suffolk University Poll (Jan. 11-13)

State Senator Scott Brown (R)  50 %
Attorney GeneralMartha Coakley (D)  46 %
Joseph Kennedy (L)  3 %
Undecided  1 %

Independent Voters

State Senator Scott Brown (R)  65 %
Attorney General Martha Coakley (D)  30 %

Digging deeper into the Numbers:

Favorables

President Obama

Favorable  55 %
Unfavorable  35 %

State Senator Scott Brown (R)

Favorable  57 %
Unfavorable  19 %

Attorney General Martha Coakley (D)

Favorable  49 %
Unfavorable  41 %

Job Approvals

President Obama

Approve  48 %
Disapprove  43 %

Governor Deval Patrick (D)

Approve  33 %
Disapprove  56 %

Debates

41 % saying Scott Brown (R) won the Debates
25 % saying Martha Coakley (D) won the Debates

Health Care

Support  36 %
Oppose 51 %

Some Caveats from Merlin:

1. You may ask why the R2000 and the Suffolk Poll are so different: Answer is the Independent Voters. In the R2000 Poll Brown leads 49-36 compared to the Suffolk Poll where he leads 65-30. (That’s why I’m not doing a Projection here. Simply too risky)

2. Suffolk has a very high turnout Model for Independent Voters. Bottom Line: If they turn out to vote in these high Numbers Brown will win this; if not Coakley wins.

3. Health Care: Not only are 51 % opposed to the HCR Plan, a whopping 63 % saying Massachusetts can’t afford it.

4. Massachusetts hasn’t elected a woman ever as Senator or Governor in this State. That’s working also in Brown’s Favor.

The End:

We could be in for a long, long Night on Tuesday. If the Race is that close NO CALL will be made before 10pm ET.

Merlin

The Dog unfortunately has to agree with Merlin…..Martha Coakley could be throwing this way…..She needs a very public weekend…could she get the President in for a hour in the next three days?
