The Dog loves Joe Biden Stories!…..The Brooklyn Bridge CellPhone call…..

This involves Biden visiting New York’s Brooklyn Bridge…

Once there…. he meets this guy who told his wife he might see the Vice President….

He, he, he…Sure enough there’s Biden…BSing with the guy…and he tells the VP his wife won’t believe he actually met the Vice President Of the United States!

So Joe grabs the phone and talks to his Wife!

Biden is the man!

When Tom Shepherd, a chief inspector on the Brooklyn Bridge rehab project, left for work yesterday, he told his wife he might be meeting later with Vice President Joe Biden, so “I’ll tell Joe you said hello.”

What Shepherd could never have imagined was that his flippant joke would be become reality a few hours later.

Not only did Shepherd get to chat with the VP, but when he mentioned the earlier conversation with his wife, Biden suggested he call her right then and there on his cellphone.

When Betty Shepherd answered at her office, the next voice she heard was that of the vice president of the United States.

HELLO, IT'S JOE: Vice President Joe Biden shocks Betty, the wife of DOT inspector Tom Shepherd, with a call from the Brooklyn Bridge yesterday.

[ HELLO, IT’S JOE: Vice President Joe Biden shocks Betty, the wife of DOT inspector Tom Shepherd, with a call from the Brooklyn Bridge yesterday. ]
“I’m Vice President Joe Biden. I’m here to make sure your husband isn’t messing up the bridge,” she recalled Biden saying.

“I was shocked. If he didn’t have such a distinctive voice, I would have thought Tom was messing with me.”

Shepherd, 44, called it fitting that his once-in-a-lifetime encounter with a vice president happened at the Brooklyn Bridge.

“I think it was third or sixth grade when a teacher showed us a picture of them building the bridge,” he said. “I was just amazed by that. It’s been a lifelong dream to work on the Brooklyn Bridge.”

Shepherd got the chance when the city began a $508 million rehabilitation of the 127-year-old span last year, and he was hired through a contractor, Greenman Pedersen, Inc.

Biden joined Mayor Bloomberg, Rep. Jerry Nadler and other officials to spotlight the $30 million in stimulus funds going into the four-year project.

NYC Mayor Bloomberg leads the campaign to get Basketball Mega Star to come to New York…….

The whisper’s have been going on for a year…
MY son’s….My basketball/sneaker nephew  Chad…

All of them….

Lebron’s coming to New York….

Will it happen?

Will the Knicks finally get a chance to win?

Will Lebron come to marketing capital of the world?

Mayor Bloomberg hopes so…..

Hoops star LeBron James would be a great addition to the Knicks and should move here in order to get the chance to play on “the world’s greatest stage,” Mayor Bloomberg said today.

During his weekly radio show on WOR-AM this morning,Bloomberg joined the growing chorus of New Yorkers who would love to see the Cleveland Cavaliers star leave Ohio for the Big Apple….

“I think it would be great for New York if he would come here,” Bloomberg said. “If he calls me and asks what’s it like to live in New York, I’ll give him a big sales pitch for New York.”

The Boston Celtics eliminated the Cavaliers from the NBA playoffs Thursday night, fueling speculation that King James — who becomes a free agent on July 1 — will leave Cleveland.

Bloomberg said James would enjoy living here because the mayor loves “living in New York.”

“My kids love living in New York,” he added. “I think LeBron Jameswould love living in New York. It is the world’s greatest stage.”

What if LeBron decides to join the New Jersey Nets, who are planning to move to Brooklyn in 2011?

“I would never pick sides,” Bloomberg said……

Build…and they will come…..One World Trade Center is fine……Thank You……

After a horrible tragedy……

Years of planning and arguing…

After all the political mud-slinging…….

And back forth between the Port Authority and Larry Silverstein…

After the Port Authority took back the responsibility to build it…

One World Trade Center is rising into the New York skyline….

And is getting good attention from commercial real estate companies in New York City…..

More than 1,400 workers are pouring concrete and installing girder upon girder. And with the red steel latticework for the obelisk-shape building now rising more than 240 feet at ground zero, it has turned into an object of desire.

Four major real estate developers are vying to buy a minority stake in the $3.1 billion project and to take over the leasing and operating of the skyscraper. This week, the developers submitted their final offers to the owner, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which plans to pick a winner by June.

“The building has real international significance, and it’s important for New York,” said Stephen M. Ross, chief executive of Related Companies, one of the four companies competing for the $100 million deal.

Despite the recent Cinderella-like transformation of Freedom Tower, now known as 1 World Trade Center, it still faces a daunting challenge: whether it can attract private companies or will remain a heavily subsidized “government” building.

A 2006 rendering of the Freedom Tower. It is now known as 1 World Trade Center.

The Port Authority and its advisers at Cushman & Wakefield are pitching it as the most modern addition to the city’s skyline, with first-class restaurants and an observatory at the top that will attract business leaders and tourists alike.

The developers seem to agree. Even Douglas Durst, the chairman of the Durst Organization, whose family opposed both the original World Trade Center and the version being built, has jumped into the competition for the tower, along with Hines, an international real estate developer, and Mortimer B. Zuckerman, the chairman of Boston Properties and the owner of The Daily News.

Vornado Realty Trust, a publicly traded company, and Brookfield Properties, the largest downtown landlord, have already been eliminated from the competition.

The competing developers acknowledge the immediate challenge of finding enough tenants for the building. But they say that a stake in 1 World Trade Center is a long-term investment in the future of the building and of Lower Manhattan. They said they were confident the area would rebound as both a residential and a commercial community, and some said they were also seeking the cachet of being associated with an internationally known skyscraper.

The Dog does a Repost on the Terror trials in NYC………

With this piece in The Hill today….I ‘ve decided to repost the link from the Dogs last comment on the upcoming Gitmo terrorist 5 trial…which has not been officially moved from New York City as the President pointed out yesterday…….

From The Hill piece……

President Barack Obama on Sunday said that he has not yet ruled out the possibility of holding a trial for Guantanamo Bay terror suspects, but appeared bearish on the possibility of actually holding them.

In an exclusive interview with CBS News that aired before the Super Bowl, the president said that his administration must take into account the growing opposition to the trials among lawmakers and public officials in New York as well as the public.

“I have not ruled it out but I think it’s important to take into account the practical, important issues at hand,” Obama said of the trials.

The President (He’s a lawyer that taught constitutional law, remember?) also cleared up the difference between intelligence gathering and a criminal investigation …..

The president’s opponents say that the FBI blundered when it interrogated Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab for only 50 minutes before reading him his Miranda rights. Obama said that the FBI recovered read him his rights only “after they obtained actionable intelligence.

“We’re not handling any of these cases any differently than they were handled with the Bush administration,” referring to the shoe-bomber Richard Reid’s interrogation, in which he was read his Miranda rights.

Here’s the repost link from the PoliticalDog piece about the trial staying in New York City……

Harlem the New York City black icon is no longer majority black……

The reason comes down to this…..

“Gentrification — the buying up and rehabilitation of land and buildings, whether by families or developers, occupied or abandoned —means a rising rent tide for all, leading inevitably to displacement next door, down the block, or two streets away,” said Neil Smith, director of the Center for Place, Culture and Politics at the City University of New York Graduate Center.

and this……..

“There are people who would like to maintain Harlem as a ‘black enclave,’ but the only way to do that is to own it,” Mr. Dodson said. “That having been said, you can’t have it both ways: You can’t on the one hand say you oppose being discriminated against by others who prevent you from living where you want to and say out of the other side of your mouth that nobody but black people can live in Harlem.”

and this…..everything old..is new again….

USDA report cliams that up to 50 Million Americans had trouble feeding themselves last year…….

One of the by products of the nations economic downturn has been people\’s ability to feed themselves…flying below the radar is the fact that a lot of Americans go to sleep every night hungry…My wife went out one Sunday, last month, to help feed the hungry in New York City…When she got home she was upset and surprised….During her time at the church in downtown Manhattan …she saw people who looked like they where having problems, with ragged clothes and in unkempt physical condition..but my wife also noticed people who were not in that condtion…she noticed people who seemed to once have been middle class, or working class, neat but hungry…..she wondered was these people having trouble feeding themselves after losing their jobs and falling behind in their lives? ( the report identifies a 90,000 increase in attendance at soup kitchens)..or, was the answer that in certain cases people are working, but simply don’t have enough money left over after paying bills, and eat everyday (neat, but hungrey)…..

Crying wolf..several CEO’s of ‘too big to fail’ companies are using New York State’s economy as a hedge to push back against the Congress’s plan to regulate that they not be allowed to ‘own’ their markets by their size…..lets see what happens after the alarm of last year has subsided…

…..Do these companies keep their immunity and stay ‘too big to fail’?

Capitalism is one thing….Corporate ‘bigmail’ is another…….

Cory Booker for 'Money Mike' Bloomberg?……Why?

Cory A. Booker, the Mayor of Newark New Jersey…the one with the ‘D’ for Democrat behind his name, spend Sunday in Queens, New York campaigning with Michael Bloomberg, who has at various times had a ‘D’ , ‘R’ and now a ‘I’ behind his name, but is on the GOP line, and the Independent line, in the upcoming vote for the Mayor of the City of New York……………

Now when I saw this…… I wondered……Why is a democrat from Jersey coming over to Queens, New York to campaign for the NY City Mayor?……Why?

Could one of the reasons be the fact that Mr. Booker has received $26,000 in  campaign donations from the right hand accountant of Bloomberg, Martin J. Geller… the contribution has to be perfectly legal……but ?????

Now, to be fair, Geller is allowed to give money to whoever he wants to…in New York, New Jersey or China for that matter…but after receiving the money in April of this year…..Booker shows up in a majority black area with the Mayor, give us a break…even the little kids around the way can figure this one out…….

All that money…….all that money…maybe that’s why Anthony Weiner didn’t run…..not because he got engaged to you know who………
