Walking IS good for Ya!

The Dog tries to get out at least 5 days a week…and add a run in once in a while…..

With the warm weather my wife and I will out on the bikes at least once during the weekends……

You learned when you were barely a year old, so chances are you’re pretty good at it by now. Put in 30 minutes a day and your body will thank you; 60 minutes and your doctor will gush.

Yes, I’m talking about walking, still one of the easiest, most accessible and least expensive forms of exercise in a world of Aqua Zumba, Kangoo jumps and aerial fitness classes. Most people can do it. If you’re physically able, all you need are a good pair of shoes and a safe place to go.

The benefits are enormous. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, physical activity — which, for adults, includes 150 minutes of brisk walking a week — reduces the risk of dying from coronary heart disease and of developing colon cancer and diabetes. It helps control weight, develop muscle and reduce body fat.

Walking and other forms of exercise can help lower blood pressure and maintain healthy bones, muscles and joints.

When exercising…overdoing it will get you you sick……

That’s the conclusion of a report issued by the Journal of Exercise and Sport Sciences Review……….the reasoning goes like this…if you go out and do a moderate amount of excercise every day your immune system actualy beefs up, and is at it’s max…but if you do too much in workouts, you begin to lose that immunity, and have a good chance of getting more severly sick than a person doing little, to moderate amounts of excercise…….the trails conducted on mice and men generally come out the same…

Walking, Running and Biking…amen

For the last 30 years or so I have been walking, running and riding my bike….it is a godsend……..I don’t know how I could do without it…….it has brought men countless moments of joy, and aches and pains……but it is well worth it……

Mornings mostly because that’s how I wake up and deal with the aches and the rest of the day…in the heat, cold, and only summer rain……And during the real cold winter occasional outside runs but it’s down to the basement and the good ole’ treadmill…….

Of course my other secret is people……during my walks and runs I see all the neighborhood people I would never know just riding in my car…the daily hello’s and smiles…the one’s that tell me they’ll join me…and some actually do……and my whole family has gotten into the routine……

In the end it’s the good feeling when you finish and the challenge of doing it when you feel lousy (my best workout are when I feel that way)………..

I’m going to keep wearing out my sneakers and riding the bike…….and it’s gonna keep me feeling good……
