Healthcare deal was almost done….why can’t they just do it and move on?…..

This from PoliticalWire……

Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA) “said negotiators from the White House, Senate and House reached a final deal on health care reform days before Scott Brown’s victory in Massachusetts,” according to The Hill.

“The latest revelation shows how agonizingly close Democrats came to passing a final health care bill in time for President Obama’s State of the Union address.”

Kevin Drum: “The bad news: this means that if Democrats had taken this stuff even slightly more seriously, healthcare reform would already be a done deal. Idiots. The good news: if negotiations really were complete, it should mean that creating a reconciliation deal to accompany passage of the existing Senate bill ought to be fairly easy. A few parts would probably have to be jettisoned since they wouldn’t be allowed under reconciliation rules, but that’s life. The vast bulk of the compromise would stay in place and just needs to be turned into legislative language.”

I have said the same thing for the last two weeks…just do it….Things will die down…Just get it done…….

The White House goes into camapign mode……

I just got finished listening  Vice President Joe Biden introducing President Obama in Tampa, Florida……

It was very interesting….I felt like it was the campaign all over again…

Both them together in Florida (The President was in Ohio recently) get it?

The Vice President was going on about Jobs….Jobs…Jobs…and Healthcare……

The Dog had to smile…..

Finally…thes guys are going out there to sell themselves…….

Thank You Scott Brown…you couldn’t have done it any better……

And they have to take a Republican…a mocerate they can deal with……

Note:…I still think he left Healthcare in Congress’s lap…..

President Barack Obama does Barack Obama…he turns from a fight……

The Dog is sniffing around the today….on the President’s State of the Union and the ‘state of the Democrats’……

The President…… it would seem with his speech…… has done what he always does…and changed directions in response to the ‘Scott Brown effect’…..leaving his poor Congressional members in the middle of the street with their pants down fending for themselves……

The Dog was going to post one story on Healthcare last night….but had to stop, because there where too many different stories…..as there is now …who knows what will happen with the program?……

The Republican’s are jubilant …feeling that they repeated their historical ‘roll’ of an upstart democratic rookie  president, just like they did to Bill Clinton 20 years ago…….(they shouldn’t forget he went on to serve two terms)

The Democrats are asking…..Ok what do we do now?……

In his state of the Union Healthcare was mentioned about four times……that’s it……The popular word these days is jobs (Merlin called this)…..

Liberals and Progressives once again get screwed……

It shouldn’t hurt them too much….He’s been screwing them since the Iowa primaries…..

Note:…..While Obama is putting off the pain…The Dog believes he is wrong…he should trim the Bill get it done…and move on……

Donna Brazille finds the good in the Scott Brown loss….

Former Al Gore campaign manager, DNC memeber and CNN talking head Donna Brazille takes heed of the Coakley loss and Brown win and goes on……

“John, we lost a very important seat, a very important vote,” Democratic strategist Donna Brazile told CNN Chief National Correspondent John King Sunday on CNN’s State of the Union.

“It’s a disappointment,” Brazile also told King. “It hurts like hell. I can’t tell you how much it hurts. But, it’s also a gift. If we learn the lessons to get back to the basics, to deliver for the American people the change we promised them in 2008.”

“Well, maybe we can find more under the tree,” Bill Bennett, the host of conservative talk show “Morning in America,” said in response to Brazile. “If that’s the gift, then we want to keep on giving,” the conservative commentator added.

Pointing to polling of Massachusetts voters conducted just after Tuesday’s special election, Bennett said “dissatisfaction with the direction of the country, antipathy toward federal government activism, and opposition to the Democrats’ health care proposals drove the upset election” of Brown.

“Brown stressed a lot his unhappiness with the way the [Obama] administration was conducting the war on terror,” Bennett also pointed out Sunday.

“The people spoke. The people of blue-on-blue Massachusetts spoke and it could not have been clearer.” Bennet declared.

Brazile disagreed with Bennett’s assertion that the Massachusetts upset was a repudiation of fundamental aspects of the agenda President Obama and congressional Democrats have pursued in the last year.

“This is not a defeat that should cause Democrats to become demoralized or to begin to fail in their pledge to change the country. This is an opportunity,” Brazile said Sunday.

The Dog agrees……..

Obama moves to strengthen his political operation which has quite frankly been terrible…..

The Dog remembers arguing with Merlin that the White House political team had made a lot of bad moves since President Obama got his job…..The Dog blamed the problems on Rahm Emanuel…..Merlin named Patrick Gaspard as the White House Political Director, a tittle he holds…..

Well… both guys just got one upped.….The President….who is nice guy...and has been always a bit too laid back…got punched in the jaw from the Scott Brown thing in Massachusetts….

He has successfully changed the direction of the media by attacking the banks and financial institutions….but the members of Congress are not fooled one bit…..

With Nancy Pelosi’s announcement that the House would no longer abide by the Senate outline for the Healthcare Bill…..The president got the point that the Bill was in trouble…..

President Obama wanted this bill…but has never really done a darn thing to sell it….instead, he’s been busy traveling to summit meetings, sending troops to Afghanistan, taking a vacation and other stuff that give absolutely no cover for Congressmen who would vote for his HUGE Healthcare Bill (which is the right thing ) and then get ambushed back home by the Republican’s as “Tax and Spend”…liberals….

So David Plouffe is being brought back and Patrick Gaspard will be asked to run his stuff past Plouffe’s operation before making any moves…..I don’t know if Rahm Emanuel will have the last say…or David Axelrod ……starting in a few days, on political matters……

But clearly as the Dog has mentioned…..This Presiodeny needs to be better at selling its agenda…..

Because the GOP …..who, don’t control the Legislative or Executive branches is kicking the Democrats butts…

The Dog is particularly happy to read this ……..

The long and messy legislative fight over health care is a leading example of how Mr. Obama has failed to connect with voters, advisers say, because he appeared to do whatever it would take to get a bill and not explain how people could benefit.

and this……which the Dog pointed out last week…..

The White House intends to send Mr. Obama out into the country considerably more in 2010 than during his first year in office, advisers said, to try to rekindle the relationship he developed with voters during his presidential campaign.

Barack Obama needs to remember that being the President of the United States means persuading people to accept your agenda…not ordering people to accept it…..that doesn’t work in the real world…..not even in military sometimes…..
