Turkey is still Okay with the West…..

ERDOGAN

[ Recep Tayyip Erdogan addresses the Turkish-Arab forum in Istanbul on Thursday. ]

They can take a breath in the EU and Washington…….

The Turks have calmed down…..

After the Israeli caper……

But Turkey will not vote for further sanctions against Iran…..

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday dismissed as propaganda suggestions that Turkey’s government was abandoning its traditional Western alliances to turn East.

Addressing the Turkish-Arab Economic Forum in Istanbul, Mr. Erdogan said his government remained committed to taking Turkey into the European Union, but accused the EU of dragging its feet in membership negotiations, according to a translation of his speech by Anadolu Ajansi, the Turkish state news agency.

Mr. Erdogan also said Turkey voted on Wednesday against further sanctions on Iran at the United Nations Security Council because it “did not want to be part of a mistake……..

Note….Someone here mentioned the old Turkish-Ottermna Empire…….That was a long time agao…The Turks alternately fought…and allied itself and parts of its country with the Russians….

Turkey at its height in power in the 1500’s conquered most of modern-day Iran……..And Iran and Turkey are modern Muslim countries adjoining each other in the Middle East…..

Turkey has long had a strong relationship with Europe and was a founding memeber of the UN in 1945.

Hillary Clinton talks tough and tries to defuse the two Korea’s brinkmanship

[ Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says North Korea must face international consequences for the sinking of a South Korean warship. Clinton said there could no longer be “business as usual” in dealing with the matter. ]

The United States Secretary of State is traveling in the Asia region and while she though she would be dealing with other issues…she finds herself trying to take the South Korea’s anger to heart in warning North Korea that the sinking of the South Korea Patrol boat was provocative…..

She must also be carefull not have a shooting war break out between the two Korea’s….

American troops are based in South Korea and any military action could spiral out of control in the region…..

And would quickly pull the United States into it….

Which is not what the US military needs ..right now…..

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on Friday vowed that the United States would not allow North Korea’s apparent deadly attack on a South Korean warship to go “unanswered” in an indication that the increasingly tense standoff on the Korean peninsula is threatening to overshadow her plans to spend the week focusing on U.S. relations with China.

In a blunt statement following a meeting with Japanese Foreign Minister Katsuya Okada, Clinton said that the United States “strongly condemns” the attack and that both countries would push for not simply a regional response to the attack but an international one as well.

“Let me be clear,” Clinton said in her first public comments on the March 26 attack. “This will not be and cannot be business as usual. There must be an international — not just a regional — response.

“I think it is important to send a clear message to North Korea that provocative actions have consequences,” Clinton added. “We cannot allow this attack on South Korea to go unanswered by the international community.”

Clinton’s comments — made on her fifth trip to Asia as secretary of state — came two days after the South Korean government formally accused North Korea of launching a torpedo at one its warships March 26, sparking an explosion that killed 46 sailors and sank the 1,200-ton vessel, the Cheonan. An investigation by South Korean experts assisted by officials from the United States, Australia, Britain and Sweden concluded that the weapon that destroyed the ship was a North Korean-made torpedo in part because fragments of the weapon “perfectly match” schematics of a product that North Korea has been offering to sell abroad…..

……………………………………..

The challenge for the United States and its partners is to craft a response to the apparent attack that while tough would also not spark a violent response from North Korea. “It’s like the three bears. It has to be strong enough to deter but not too strong to start a war,” said Victor Cha, a former Bush administration official now at Georgetown University. “It has to be just right.”

Although Clinton declined to say exactly what the next steps could be, South Korea has indicated it wants to take the matter to the U.N. Security Council for punitive action. Both the United States and Japan have said they would back such a move.

However, it is unclear whether China — where Clinton is scheduled to spend five days before heading to South Korea — supports that idea. Beijing’s reaction to the attack was slow; it took China almost a month to express condolences for the loss of life. And Chinese officials have basically demanded incontrovertible proof of North Korean involvement before they would commit to tough action against their old ally…..

The United States …..not the United Nations is adopting Haiti right now…..

I was listening to White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs answer questions from reporters today…..when the questions got around to Haiti I listen harder…I was looking for one question and knew it was coming sooner…or later…..

When the question came Gibbs was carefull in answering it……”sir….who is charge in Haiti, right now?…..why hasn’t the President [Obama] been able to talk to the Haitian President?”

Gibbs cleared his throat, I think…and went on to say that the Haitian President is in charge of his country…….really?

I don’t think so……

While Rene Preval is the President of the country….he is right now just a survivor of his countries worst natural tadegety…he has no army…no police force to think of..his country has no governemnt…he has just about nothing….The American’s have the assets, which are flowing into the country, and will continue for some time…..

I submit to you that we don’t want to admit this but the highest commanding military person from the United Sates acting under the UN charter and his commader-n-Chief..in consoltation with The Haiti President (if he can find Preval and talk to him) is in charge of the country at this time….(as I write this piece)….

The country is a mess…it is overwhelmed and cannot take care of itself…the only blessing is the damage from the 7.0 scale earthquake was to a certain area……

The country’s future and its number of survivors will depend on the United Sates military which will have to secure the country…serach for survivors and recover the dead…provide shelte communications and food for its populas…take care of the sick and wounded and provide security for the survivors…..

While countries from all over the world will lend a hand, and support..it will be the top U.S. Army General in a few days that will command the operation……President Preval will be located and pulled into the net’ to make decisions sooner hopefully than later…..

But with such a poor country…..American and foreign troops will have another place to be in for along, long time…..

…..as the Dog would say…’that just is’…….
